A New Era for the Wrestling Thread

Arrived at the ECW arena for the big 10 woman tag match tonight.

I was thinking about Goldberg announcing that he'll have his last match next year, unless WWE have a big event in Georgia next year I'm guessing he'll have it at Wrestlemania. If Goldberg wants to go over then Dom is the ideal opponent, I couldn't think of an easier match for a 58 year old Goldberg, with no risk of the crowd turning. However I think Cena vs Goldberg is the way to go, a generational special attraction match-up.

Fun episode of NXT this week, a good mix of ECW nostalgia and showcasing the up and coming talent of the brand.

Kicking off with the hardcore match between Lola Vice and Jaida Parker was a good call, it had the usual issue with setting up the weapons spots too obviously, an art modern wrestlers often struggle with, but it was a strong physical showcase for both women. Jaida Parker is a star in the making, she comes across as authentic and is great at working the crowd, which is more important than moves. One thing I would have done is have the women fight in the street clothes they had on in the promos they did outside the ECW arena.

Following the hardcore match with Je'Von Evans vs Wes Lee was a neat touch, as ECW wasn't just hardcore, it showcased cruiserweight talents like Rey Mysterio, Psychosis, Tajiri and Super Crazy. This was a fun spotfest with 2 exciting athletes, and RVD's assist for Evans gave Wes an out. Evans is a bit like RVD in that he's managed to put his own twist on long established highspots.

The segment with Ava announcing Deadline for Minnesota seemed an odd choice at first but it segwayed into an appearance from Rhyno who Gored her assistant, just a fun little moment for another ECW alumni.

Bubba and Trick vs Page and Ridge was a bit clunky, and the finish being a roll-up didn't do much for Ridge, sure he pinned the champ clean, but he's supposed to be a beast, a Bret finish doesn't get a monster over. The aftermath with Devon bringing the table out to put Page through was a cool moment though.

The ten woman tag match being the main event was absolutely the right choice, and they delivered on the hype! It was primarily a showcase for the faces and all got a chance to shine, Jordynne in particular looked fantastic on offense, and there was a great little sequence between Giulia and Roxanne, who's timing in feeding the faces was immaculate as always, particularly in the final stretch where Zaria surprisingly pinned her. Great way to finish the show.

During the main event Lashkara came out to try and distract the faces, in particular Giulia and Stephanie, which played off a backstage segment where Lashkara were bragging to the face ream about their recent tag title shots, and Giulia and Stephanie stepped to them. Also Zaria accidentally speared Jordynne in the final stretch and they really focused on Zaria's reaction, it felt like they were teasing something down the line between these 2. There's so many interesting dynamics leading into the Women's Iron Survivor match next month, personally I hope Giulia & Stephanie vs Lashkara happens on an NXT episode before Deadline as I want Guilia and Stephanie to both be in the Iron Survivor match, unless one is facing Roxy for the title at Deadline.

Why are they still doing these ECW tribute shows? I can't help but just not care anymore as the company went out of business over 20 years ago and we've had about 15 different tribute shows.

It wasn't a tribute show, it was just an episode of NXT in the old ECW arena, with a few cameos as a nod to the buildings history, the matches were NXT talent bar Bully Ray, I'm not sure I'd count the comedy mafia segment as a match lol.

Jey Uso merchandise outsold Cody, and Roman.

Lance Anoa'i signed with WWE. So with him and Hikuleo that's two more Bloodline members. Zilla Fatu is out there as well. Maybe we'll eventually get Roman's Bloodline vs Solo's Bloodline vs Rocks Bloodline

Well I'd say the same reason why wcw doesn't get them. ECW seems to be still flourishing in terms of popularity for what's left behind more so then wcw even though we know wcw has tons of fans still representing but ecw is a different vibe thesse days. Example: You don't see fans chanting wcw anywhere but you see ecw fans go bananas with just the simplest. That said, WWE will continue to do ecw stuff because they know they can profit of the defunct brand. Just look at ECW 2300 NXT event. WWE must be satisfied they beat a weak aew in a battle with a 3rd brand. That's all we need to know why.

This should be really good, especially on the women's side, as there's so many options, I'm hoping the following are the 5 qualifiers;

Women - Giulia, Zaria, Jordynne Grace, Cora Jade & Jaida Parker

Men - Je'Von Evans, Oba Femi, Lexis King, Wes Lee & Ethan Page

I'm guessing Trick defends against Ridge and I'm hoping Roxy defends against Stephanie.

So when the Iron Survivor was first announced in 2022 and they showed the rules, it had the potential to be a disaster since the rules were confusing, but the very first Iron Survivor exceeded all expectations.
