A New Era for the Wrestling Thread

Winged Eagle incoming?

I'm excited for Saturday Night Main Event tonight. Especially the old school vibe they're going for. Can't wait to watch.

WWE made the absolute right decision to have the Women's US Title finals be Chelsea Green vs. Michin.

My predictions for tonight

Cody
Gunther
Drew
Iyo
Chelsea

Oh man this is giving me nostalgia overload in the best way :hrt:

Jesse immediately into heel commentating :D

Starting off with the best in the world...Drew McIntyre!

Winged Eagle :hrt:

Yep.

On another note, anyone else notice that a lot of the fans were cheering for Kevin Owens this time? Do you guys think that Cody now runs the risk of getting booed as a face like John Cena and Roman Reigns did before him?

Yes and No. New York always cheers the heels. But it's a possibility. Just don't turn him into Super Cody. He needs to lose once in awhile. We're simulating a competitive sport. Sometimes there's upsets where the underdog team/player/fighter wins is a part of sports. That would keep him from getting the Cena/ Reigns treatment imo.

Now to steal an idea from Simon Miller that I loved. Kevin Owens left with the winged eagle belt. He should carry that around with him claiming he won it, since he would have if the ref wasn't knocked out. And Charles Robinson counted from outside the ring. Could say that's an illegal count since he didn't slide in the ring which would have given Kevin a bit more time to kick out.

She's been getting face pops, so I don't think she's going to re-christen the title (in kayfabe) "The Canadian Championship"

So now that Gunther has moved past Finn and Damian, who will be his next challenger? Punk? I figure he beats Seth in their first match. But maybe he could wrestle a Rey Mysterio in between?

Punk vs Gunther night 1
Cody vs Orton night 2 possible triple threat with KO

In this scenario Roman would wrestle Seth

Assuming Rock doesn't make it to Mania.

SNME was fine, my favorite part was Jesse back on commentary, he was great in all 3 segments he was in, he's still got it! :D

Drew needed that straight win over Sami, and the triple threat for the World title was good, Gunther needed that dominant win as well.

Congrats to Chelsea on that US title, I was happy her and Michin got to be the final of the tournament as both epitomise why a 2nd Women's title is so nessicary, but there's no denying just how over Chelsea has gotten, so her win made sense, and she got a great new shirt to kick of her reign! :awesome:

Cody vs Owens was a decent main event, Owens is in the zone right now with this heel turn, and I think WWE might evaluate their next move given the nature of the finish, I mean like Jesse said "Rhodes cheated!" 😜

Lastly, Iyo vs Liv......does anyone remember when the Miz beat Shawn Michaels clean to try and sell him as a legit champion against John Cena? No, because it didn't ****ing happen! :censor: Liv has been a Miz or Honky Tonk type champion, gets heat yes, but nobody buys the idea that her vs Rhea is the Mega Powers explode, she's been running scared for months and now she's bowing up to Rhea? It just didn't fit logical booking. I've got nothing against Liv, she's excelled in the role she's been given and she's tougher than he looks, Iyo really blasted her with that knee strike and she didn't pout, but there's so many women who are much better in the ring and over, it would just be nice to see the Women's World title matches as in-ring centerpieces of shows, instead of mediocre matches attached to a "love triangle" story.

Raw thoughts, not the Chris Webby edition!

Things are building well between Punk and Seth, the promo exchange took an unusual approach with Rollins coming through the crowd and playing off being a fan. The brawl that followed was electric and so well shot, WWE's use of dynamic camerawork has massively elevated these scenes so much. I think there's still an elephant in the room that Punk and Seth haven't adressed but the first match is booked and will probably open the first Raw on Netflix.

I also liked seeing Drew trying to bring Seth into his viewpoint, I still think an Axis of bitterness with these 2 and Owens could be money.

Bron vs Kaiser was another solid match between the 2 but the amount of fails Kaiser is having isn't great for him. The finish also seemed a bit awkward, not sure if there was miscommunication or if Bron was genuinely a bit dazed.

Speaking of awkward finishes, I was glad to see Zoey Stark qualify in the Women's Intercontinental title tournament but damn that finish was a whiffer! And the match in general struggled as nobody in it is really over, I think they had it flow directly from the Liv/Rhea promo in the hope of Raquel syphoning off some of that heat, but it didn't really work.

The Rhea and Liv promo was fine, the Jimmy Hart Megaphone gimmick is an ideal addition for Liv. They didn't confirm it but I'm guessing the Women's World title match between them that Rhea said will be happening, happens on the Raw Netflix debut, and hopefully puts a button on this feud.

Apparently this video is for Penta? I'm not sure if it was him or his brother that I saw **** his arm up in some stupid spot in AEW, but one of them is heading to Raw for the Netflix debut.

Putting the War Raiders vs Balor & JD for the World tag team titles on last was an interesting choice, not really sure any of them are over enough for the main event but I applaud the effort to make the belts matter. I was a bit surprised to see Balor eat another pin but congrats to the Big hairy fellas on their big moment. 👍

It's a shame Jesse and Dusty never wrestled. The match wouldn't have been much, but the promos leading up to it would have been amazing.
