A New Era for the Wrestling Thread

Lets be honest, Cody vs. Roman III is the biggest match they could do for the WrestleMania main event at present time. They are in the Rock/Austin WMX7 phase now, as the two top babyfaces competing for the top spot, as opposed to the previous two times where Cody was the top babyface chasing the top heel Roman for the title, trying to "finish his story".

And storyline wise it makes the most sense, as Roman has basically told Cody that he was coming for him once the feud with Solo was done (and he had Heyman tell Cody to his face on Smackdown that he was entering the Rumble). And they are really playing up all the paranoia of Roman rising back up to power with Drew and Seth telling everyone he hasn't changed, and Kevin Owens getting on Cody for being too forgiving of Roman and teaming up with him, which is why KO turned heel this time around. I don't think any of that is a coincidence.
I would wait on this match when it can be face Roman vs heel Cody. I would not do this baby face vs baby face. As for the tease, doesn't mean anything. In the end, it just is announcing Roman is on the rumble and why he is there. Now you can have something happen that sends him on another road. For Cody, I would do Cena vs Cody. Have Cena going for number 17 in his final Mania match against his apparent successor. That's I think a huge match you can do instead

As for Roman, I would do a shocking twist and have Heyman screw him out of winning. Then have the reveal be Punk's favor is he wants to Main Event at Mania, and the easiest way to do it is Punk vs Roman. That's where I would go there if it was me

I don't think they're doing Roman vs Cody 3 at Mania. Running it back is fine, but doing same main event 3 years in a row....I don't think we are going there. I think they're setting up Roman's future direction in the Rumble, but he won't win

They are doing Cena vs. Cody of course ;)

People suspect this "Nobody cares" thing by Baker is part of the problem. Not sure what this was about. But we haven't seen Baker on TV since this. But we haven't seen Serena Deeb on TV since December either.

Bayley has transferred to Raw.

Roman vs. Cody III makes the most sense. It fits neatly into all the current storylines, and is really the biggest match they can do with Roman now that Rock has taken himself off the board.

I think Cena vs. Gunther is a better scenario for that. Cena being the sentimental favorite trying to beat Flair's record in his final year in wrestling, going up against a nearly unbeatable Gunther, who has already trashed talked other legends like Bret Hart and Goldberg.

Yeah Rock took himself off the board, but even if you're doing Cody vs Roman again, I think it needs a new flavor in there. Maybe you turn that into a triple threat and throw Punk in there and make it Cody vs Punk vs Roman. But I think you're looking at diminishing returns doing that 3 times in a row. They can't top what they did last year. They just won't. Yeah, maybe people are hot for the match when it gets announced, but I see it feeling inferior upon execution. So I think you wait on that when you can add something new to make it fresh. Like if Cody can be a heel next time they do it or whatever. Austin vs Rock had years in between their trilogy. You CAN put Cena vs Gunther, but I think Cody vs Cena is a bigger deal match.

On a different note, with the TNA deal, do you think we'll see an Oba Femi vs Moose match?

Jordynne Grace said last year that Moose wants her to tell HBK that he wants a match with Oba Femi

Lol at Punk mentioning Hogan in his promo, and Jackie laughing. Took an unnecessary shot at Sammi, though.

Screw it, at some point in 2025 Sammi Zayn will defeat CM Punk for the WHC. That's my big prediction for the year. Try to remember this post, because my old ass will probably forget :funny:

Edit number 2, Who the hell did Dominik tell Chad Gable to go to?

In the past year with this relationship, the WWE has openly acknowledged a superstar's past in TNA and this started at the 2024 Royal Rumble when Jordynne Grace came out and the WWE announcers mentioned that she was the one who beat Naomi for the TNA Knockouts Championship. In NXT, before Wes Lee turned on the Rascalz, he told Zachary Wentz something like "a lot has changed since the last time you were in NXT"

I like the simple build for Gunther vs Jey, and the story actually leans in Jey's favour. 🤔 Punk's promo was fire as well, really hyping up the Rumble, he looks more intensely focused than ever and names were dropped lol. I also liked Owens promo to Zayn, trying to manipulate him ahead of the Rumble and perhaps setting up a match between them for Wrestlemania? Although Owens still has Orton waiting in the wings, either way Owens is on top form right now.

I've enjoyed the series of matches between Nia and Bayley, and this was another good one, Nia has started 2025 like she finished 2024, everything is clicking right now. I was a bit surprised Bayley lost clean again, especially on her first match back on Raw, but they teased a bit more between her and Roxy that should continue tonight on NXT. The Nia vs Rhea title match has been hotshotted like crazy to get Rhea on SNME, but the physicality and intensity between the 2 women, along with their history, makes it an easy sell, the question is, is Nia now a Raw wrestler?

I was a bit surprised Kofi lost, but the New Day have so much heat I guess it's not a big deal, good match between Rey and Kofi too.

There were a couple more promos from the upper deck that they've been doing recently, Ludwig Kaiser teased a match with Penta and Karrion Kross talked about being done with the Wyatt6 and now focusing on Zayn, Punk or Rollins, it feels like he's potentially moving up the card.

Damage Control vs PFC was a fast and dynamic tag match with Iyo really shining in the closing stretch, the counter to Baszler's chokehold was clever. I was hoping we might get the return of Asuka here.

Quality main event between Rollins and McIntyre, just an excellent pro wrestling match with a bit of a surprising clean finish. The aftermath with Sami Zayn adds another interesting layer to the top end of the Rumble.

Joe Hendry called out John Cena. I can't lie I totally want to see that.

Imagine John Cena winning his 17th world championship and it's the TNA title. John Cena as tna champ would be bonkers. Just having some fun fantasy booking.
