A New Era for the Wrestling Thread

Wouldn't be the first nor last Royal Rumble winner to not Main Event Wrestlemania. Just at the top of my head, Shinsuke vs AJ was mid card, Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan was mid card, Seth vs Brock was the Mania opener, Orton vs Wyatt was mid card. It happens, especially now when there are 4 World Titles between the ladies and men as well as 2 Rumble winners. So I don't think Jey can really be mad about it.

The two titles really changed how the Rumble win is looked at and booked, it means some years you'll get the big star winner like Cody, who you know is going to the actual main event of Wrestlemania, and other years it's used to give big wins to guys like Sheamus, Del Rio, Nakamura and now Jey, and to put them in a big Mania match but not the actual main event. Ironically Punk's storyline for the last year plus, has been about main eventing Wrestlemania, and despite not winning the Rumble or Elimination Chamber, he's very likely going to main event night one.

And the fact that he's already headlined night one.

Yeah, one of Punk's gripes that led to his first WWE exit a decade ago was that he was robbed of a chance to main event a Mania and he might have done so in 2011 had it not been for "Once in a Lifetime" between the two guys who are currently aligned now to stop Cody.

Main eventing WrestleMania is overrated. Ask Chris Jericho. His one time main eventing WrestleMania in 2002 was a wet fart. It's really not about who main events all the time. Sometimes it's about who has the best match or performance.

WrestleMania 25 is another garbage main event with Triple H. The match everyone remembers from that show is Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels. I should know, I was there.

Tonight's Raw line-up, obviously the last 2 aren't matches, Iyo and Bianca is a contract signing, I wonder of Rhea interjects and signs her name like Shawn at the Wrestlemania 20 contract signing.

Cena just said that the WWE Universe doesn't deserve a new entrance theme and a new change in wardrobe, which is why he came out to "My Time is Now" and is in the jorts

Cena said nothing wrong!

But I do hope he changes his attire/music up at some point... even if we don't deserve it lol!

it was a really good explanation as to why he came out to his usual theme and in his usual attire.

Pinn Balor strikes again.

I knew he didn't have a hope in hell of winning against Bron today, but damn. And he's trending on Twitter.

Possibly John Cena's best promo ever

It was really good. Him and Cody could've brawled and been pulled apart though like how Bianca/Rhea/Iyo were.

Cody's response to this promo is another reason Cena needs to win at WrestleMania as a heel. Cody wants the "real" Cena, but all that proves is that Cody still hero worships the WWE/Vince McMahon created image that was promoted for 25 years. That isn't the "real" John Cena. The real John Cena is a narcissistic ego monster. Cody is underestimating the threat that Cena represents.

I like what they're doing here with Cena and Cody. Also shows me why Cody has to be babyface for now, cause Cena here is gonna be a mirror of what Cody can be if the title gets to him and he goes full Homelander. So Cody needs to keep true to who he is as a character.

Now as for who wins....I really can see this going either way. Cody will win this rivalry in the end. The only question is does he beat John at Mania or at like Summerslam. I think this is a true 50/50

Heel Cena beating Flairs record at WM is too good of an opportunity to pass up. But have Cody really get screwed with The Rock being special guest referee. Let Cody get his title back at SummerSlam. Think this is best for business!

I think either outcome is plausible, really. I want to see a heel run as champion for Cena, but if he loses, John can start a story where he gets more and more desperate to get it and eventually towards the end of the run realizes that he sold his soul to The Rock, and it got him nothing. So he has to make amends with the fans before its too late, and then he spends the last part of the run going back to a babyface so he can retire a babyface. Maybe he even gets the 17th then and retires.

I think either outcome is possible

I think from a business standpoint, there are far more money matches with a heel Cena as World Champion coming out of WrestleMania, than there is with Cody retaining.

I ultimately feel like Cody beating Cena is the end of Cena's story as a heel, because that is always the ending of the villain's story (the hero defeating them), and Cena's turn is the biggest thing to happen in years. Gotta strike the iron while its hot.

I am much more confident that Cody will be a multiple time World Champion than I am with Jey Uso once Jey wins the World Heavyweight Championship. I think Jey goes down as one of many 1-time World Champions in WWE who never get another shot. When his career is over with, Cody will get at least 5 or 6 World Championships in WWE. I don't know if Cody makes it to ten.
