A New Era for the Wrestling Thread

Cena's always been a good talker and this was a well delivered promo with likely truthful elements of things he's felt over the years, but I'd have liked him to tie it back in specifically to what he did at Elimination Chamber, citing that he wants that record 17th World title for himself, and that Rock is a more assured path to that than the fickle fans. I thought Cody’s response was spot on, calling Cena out on being whiney and this version is no threat to him, now Cena's next move needs to be big.

The Women’s World title contract signing was a fun segment, Iyo's English is limited but she's getting strong reactions for how she talks, and Bianca is coolly confident. Then Rhea arrived, she cut that introspective promo after losing the title but now she's being booked essentially as a spoilt brat, even Pearce said "it's like talking to a child" which is not how you'd usually book your top face, I mean in this angle Bianca and Iyo haven't done anything wrong, they didn't screw Rhea, she lost focus, it makes me wonder if she's asked to go heel again. Also, that powerbomb spot was supposed to break the table I think, Rhea just didn't compensate for Iyo's lightness.

Bron vs Finn was a solid main event, it's good to see the Intercontinental title getting the showcase spot, I'm guessing from the finish it's going to be Bron vs Penta at Wrestlemania. i can't lie, Penta does absolutely nothing for me, I've seen way more exciting Luchadores.

I think one factor that is being underestimated in this debate is Cody is the face of the company now, and his Main Event Wrestlemania record is 1-1. Do they want to give him a 2nd Main Event loss in 3 years? This is certainly a factor WWE I do think takes into consideration

Heel Cena beating Flairs record at WM is too good of an opportunity to pass up. But have Cody really get screwed with The Rock being special guest referee. Let Cody get his title back at SummerSlam. Think this is best for business!

I think from a business standpoint, there are far more money matches with a heel Cena as World Champion coming out of WrestleMania, than there is with Cody retaining.

I ultimately feel like Cody beating Cena is the end of Cena's story as a heel, because that is always the ending of the villain's story (the hero defeating them), and Cena's turn is the biggest thing to happen in years. Gotta strike the iron while its hot.

It's an interesting predicament, I think Cena gets the title as Backlash is in St. Louis, him vs Orton is a lay-up for that show, and I can see them revisiting Cena vs Punk in the summer. The thing is Cena can come up short at Wrestlemania, then on Raw the following night Rock makes some BS excuse to give Cena a rematch where he wins it with help, imagine the heat in front of that post Mania Raw crowd!

And one more question.

After that botch yesterday with the diving crossbody and how winded he was after YEETing through his entrance… does Jey reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaally need to win the WC at Mania?

He's going to, lol!

Cena is scheduled for at least two more dates before Mania, so we'll know why he sold his soul in one of those two dates.

Hot take: Iyo vs Bianca vs Rhea should main event night one.

Agreed, everyone is thinking Punk vs Roman vs Seth but there's nothing actually on the line there, so maybe they put that 2nd last on night two, keeping Punk's main eventing Wrestlemania storyline alive, and that means night one needs a main event with Iyo vs Bianca vs Rhea certain to be a better match than Gunther vs Jey.

I can easily see Iyo vs Bianca vs Rhea being the Night 1 Main Event.

Absolutely.

Definitely seeing the women's triple threat closing night one and Gunther vs Jey opening night one.

With the momentum they're getting, Cena vs Cody has to main event Night Two.

I'd say do the winner of the Punk vs Seth vs Roman gets a title match against one of the champions at SummerSlam. But that's what King/Queen of the Ring is for. I do think some stake will be added to the match.

Cody vs Cena was gonna be the Night 2 main event regardless. But it has gone from a match I was interested in to the match I am MOST interested in. Great build

And Heel John Cena is still going to come out to "My Time Is Now" and the jorts because we don't deserve to see him have a new theme or wardrobe.

I loved that lol! Such good trolling

Bookending Wrestlemania night one like that would be perfect, get things off to a hyped start, WWE get their social media moment with the 65,000 yeeting, and then close the show with your potential best match which is also for a World title.

Once you are one of the top wrestlers in the company I really don’t think your record should hurt you. Cody has entered that category. Loosing to Heel John Cena with shenanigans going on, people won’t think of the 1-2 record in WM. What’s Seth record in WM? I don’t think it’s good . Bianca is 4-0? I don’t think I view her as some unbeatable force. With a Loss, and the eventual title I’m sure he will win back, don’t think it moves the needle.

I view it as imagine the heat Cena will get with a title win than see him at the Raw after WM! Now you could have Cody winning it back at Backlash but that may be too soon. When I do think about it Cena doesn’t need the title but having title matches against a face CM Punk, Orton is money

Triple H has a different booking philosophy to Vince, which emphasizes remaining strong in booking.

You know, on these rare occasions like tonight when I’m watching AEW, I truly try to be objective, but they make it so hard.

Edge and Jon Moxley were having a decent Street Fight, then towards the end, they resort to the outlaw mudshow tactics.

Like what the hell is the point of this:

So stupid.

Well, at least Mox has a platform to display his sadomasochism kink
