Didn't see one for this franchise so I thought it'd be appropriate. A place to discuss everybody's favorite burned slasher villain. :cwink:

One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, eight, gonna stay up late. Nine, ten, never sleep again.

Love these movies, while it's my third favourite horror franchise behind Friday the 13th and Halloween it's still one of my favourites.

The reboot however was not good, I think remaking the first film really harmed it. They should stayed away from all original characters, nods to the previous films and let Jackie Earle Haley create his own portrayal.

For me Freddy needs a small reinvention to carry on. If I were in charge of a making a new film, I'd make it really dark and creepy. I'd cast a good actor with a lanky frame for Freddy, give him a different sort of creepy vibe, make him a little more Nosferatu type in movements. I'd keep him in the shadows without a full reveal until the film's climax too. I'd also make the film more of a personal story, don't go crazy with the body count. The original film didn't and I don't think that's what Nightmare films are about unlike Friday the 13th. Stick to a small core, say 4 or 5 teens with one of them been the survivor. Five deaths that while over the top dream kills not enter post Dream Warriors territory. Anyway I'm not gonna get to make it but just a few ideas.

In 1984, it was a bit unique as it blended humour and horror, and most of all Freddy Krueger and the concept of dream was so original. We used to joked with our old friend with same the moniker, Freddy.

It was released in the same year as Amadeus, Dune, Gremlins, The Terminator, Ghostbusters, Beverly Hill Cop, The Karate Kid, Splash, Police Academy and several others smashing films. That year I binged by going to the cinema almost every weekend.

Also released that year Friday the 13th The Final Chapter imo the best of the Friday series. It was a fantastic year for movies. Also the year I was born :cwink:

lol at Friday the 13th. I actually watched the original on VHS with a group of friends, yep in 1984 since I never saw it at the theatre. I have seen Part 2 in the theatre, and not completely on TV & home video, Freddy vs. Jason & Jason Takes Manhattan.

We also got Terminator in '84. And while it wasn't a horror movie Purple Rain was also released that year so you're totally right about that year being an awesome one. One of my favorites for those four/five reasons alone. :D

And the remake is an utter piece of garbage. The last few times I tried watching it years ago I couldn't even make it past ten to fifteen minutes. It's just a complete slap in the face to the rest of the franchise, even the more campy entries.

I'd rather watch Freddy's Dead on a repeat loop than the remake, and FD is as abominable as it gets.

Really wasn't much humor in the original. Freddy didn't really start with the wisecracks until Part 3. Even then he was more scary than funny.

New Nightmare also took Freddy back to his darker, more sinister roots.

Part 5 had a lot of potential to be really good, but the humor weighed it down too much. The idea of Freddy attacking Alice through her unborn child was brilliant. The execution? Not so much.
