Anyone else got the new album yet? I’ve been devouring it over the past couple days and loving it. It feels fairly political; I expected that with Talk Talk and The Doomed taking thinly veiled shots at Evangelistic Christian hypocrisy. Talk Talk felt VERY pertinent in that it was released right before the Parkland tragedy.

Anyway, the rest of the album feels definitively like the APC of Mer de Noms; I always felt like 13th Step wasn’t quite up to par and the Emotiv stuff was all covers and alternative versions of things. But this feels like a return to form. Maynard’s vocals are pure and powerful as ever and Howerdel’s and Iha’s guitar work is stellar. They delve into some new territory with mixed results... the title track (Eat the Elephant) almost has a jazz feel to it and it’s a strange way to begin an album. But it really hits its stride thereafter and is all in all quite spectacular.

I don’t care that it’s only April. This is the best album of the year.

It's a good record. It definitely surprised me. I wasn't expecting it to be less "rock" than their other work, but I loved the hell out of it regardless. You can see a progression from Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step to Eat the Elephant. It's a banner year for Maynard if the new Tool album drops this fall.

I love the new album. Different but in such a good way. I highly recommend spending the time to pop on a pair of headphones and listen all the way through!

Yeah it’s definitely an album to really absorb. And I sure do hope the new Tool album hits soon. I mean, it has to, right?

I'm not quite getting the hate for this one among the fans.

Some of it I'm admittedly not digging upon first listen, the lighter stuff, but APC's never been a band that you judge upon first play. It's different, but different's good.
