Anyone else got the new album yet? Ive been devouring it over the past couple days and loving it. It feels fairly political; I expected that with Talk Talk and The Doomed taking thinly veiled shots at Evangelistic Christian hypocrisy. Talk Talk felt VERY pertinent in that it was released right before the Parkland tragedy.
Anyway, the rest of the album feels definitively like the APC of Mer de Noms; I always felt like 13th Step wasnt quite up to par and the Emotiv stuff was all covers and alternative versions of things. But this feels like a return to form. Maynards vocals are pure and powerful as ever and Howerdels and Ihas guitar work is stellar. They delve into some new territory with mixed results... the title track (Eat the Elephant) almost has a jazz feel to it and its a strange way to begin an album. But it really hits its stride thereafter and is all in all quite spectacular.
I dont care that its only April. This is the best album of the year.
