Trying to get this going over the threshhold.

I mean, why not, these characters are basically American symbols by now, and the only reason they aren't already public domain it's because of Disney's lobbying. I don't see any harm in that at all.

Characters like Batman get presidents elected. I don't think the White House is going to let Batman be in the public domain.

Disney...right...

Huh? Just... Huh? Yeah, Disney has had a hand in extending copyright over the years though they are hardly the only ones, and yes some re-thinking of that process and the legalities that go along with it need some re-thinking but... Huh?

I don't think they should be. It's a ridiculous petition.

Well, I mean, there's no SERIOUS reason why they should still be under copyright. They could have lapsed in the mid 90s as originally intended and, you know, nothingg would have been lost, I think. The point of copyright is to protect the author cron competing with their own work's duplicates so that they will want to make more stuff.

Who would argue that WB needs protection for these characters 75 years after the fact?

Except for the millions, possibly billions of dollars these two characters make WB every year.

If the characters weren't in constant use, then I'd agree. As it is, should copyright fall then the market would be flooded with useless bull**** that would demean the characters and make them less of an icon until the entire point you were trying to make is moot.

The best we could probably hope for would be DC signing Superman and Batman to Kindle Worlds. Basically you can write fan fiction and, if it meets certain requirements, sell it while giving a portion of the profits to the owner.

Vampire Diaries and GI Joe are on there.

and also for the idea that while yes people would use the likes of mickey, superman and batman to produce new and interesting stories. you know some sleezeball is just gonna make the sickest thing he/she can think of and not be touched for it

look yes i agree the copyright laws need reworked but as an artist/photographer keeping some works under copyright isnt a bad thing

This petition won't work.

Everything that needs to be said about this subject is said.

I'm going to make a petition to get the people that make petitions like these to kiss my ass.

When their time is up they should be place back into the public domain. Won't get any argument from me.
