Call me a desensitized jaded ****, but A Serbian Film hardly raped my soul. Perhaps there was nothing to rape. I saw the unedited screener version of the film with the newborn porn intact. Personally, the violence was overly fake and the stand in fake ***** laughable. I get the political connotations, but the director should know that no one really cares what happens in Serbia.

The one thing I question is the showing of children during sex scenes. If the children were on a different set, then it would be fine. But if the children were exposed to any imitated sexual material, the director should be in jail. Salo is a better example of true depravity. Regardless, I'm still eager for the possibility of a Criterion release. This and the Human Centipede proved to be pretty comical.

If you want a link to the screener copy, PM me, but be warned. If you're the sensitive church going/midwestern type, avoid it.

I heard it's a terrible movie. I've heard the CRAZY stuff that I couldn't believe they were in the movie. (Google it...but this is a warning: it will destroy your soul)

But there's theories that some Serbians are desensitized by the numerous genocides and wars they went through. Their views and perceptive on life is a bit different to say the least. The director wanted to make a point but he so gratuitous and exploitative that whateve point he had was lost in the disgusting nature of his film.

Salo or Visitor Q are much more disturbing in my opinion. A Serbian Film, while controversial, is very well made and pretty damn entertaining. But anyone interested in it doesn't have to worry about their soul being destroyed. It's been over-hyped as something it's not.

Personally, I hope Criterion releases it here in the U.S. They released Salo and Antichrist, so this should be right up their alley. If not Criterion, I could see Dimension Extreme as well. I pray they don't edit anything out.

I saw this on a film festival last year. Most depressing movie I have ever seen.

I really wouldn't call it a bad, or terrible movie at all. I'm still pondering was it a 2, 3 or 4 out of 5 movie. It's just that the story was so effectively repulsive that most people just go right on the bat saying it was terrible piece of ****. And because of that, I can't decide. Am I terrible person if I give a favorable rating for this? Do I not appreciate the cinematic values of the film, if I give it a lower rating?

It was really well made film, all in all. I've never seen a Serbian movie before, so I had my prejudice and I expected some really poor dollar budget garbage, but I was pleasantly surprised. Well filmed, well acted, great score, and fake blood'n'gore! No CGI ********, like movies usually nowadays do.

Everyone talks about the new born porn -scene, sure it was disgusting, but it wasn't as shocking and depressing, as the thing that came later. I was like please, anything but not that! And boom, I hated being right.

And if you're going to watch this, watch the uncut version. There's no really a reason to watch the cut version of this (or any other movie for that matter), because if the sole purpose of the film was to shock you, why watch a version without the shock? Still, I would say it's best viewed uncut in a cinema.

I saw the uncut festival version and from a technical standpoint its a really well made film. Acting is top noth, sound and music (some of the heaviest dubstep i've heard) are awesome! Special effects are great (only scene that really looks fake is the newborn porn thing, other than that its flawless).

Story is OK, I call BS on the wole political agenda tho. He wanted to make a disgusting and violent movie. Thats it.

The cool thing is this is the only movie I actually regretted seeing (and I'm no stranger to vile and disgusting films). The scenes toward the end, was something I sort of figured was gonna happen, but I really did not want to see it.

I felt, I dont know, shame and dirty and wrong, after seeing this film. It was an awesome experience!

I have to ask: I cant be the only one who lol:ed when the snuff director shouted out proud about his newfound genre? It was so absurd I just coulndt help myself haha

There was laughter in the screening I was at. I chuckled.

That's why I have no desire to see this film. That's disgusting beyond all belief.

It's not that disgusting, it actually pretty funny. They use a puppet baby so it's pretty comical.

"NEWBOOORRRNNNN." hahaha, I'm sorry but that line was hilarious.

I was curious to this film because of all the talk surrounding how it's illegal and should be banned, etc. I watched the uncut version, and it was surprisingly tame. I don't know if I'm too jaded or people are too easily persuaded into hyperbole, but this movie wasn't as crazy as the internet makes it out to be.

The newborn scene is so over the top, it's unbelievably ludicrous. The only moment that is truly disturbing is near the end with the main character's son -- that's some twisted stuff. 'A Serbian Film' won't warp your mind, or scar your soul. It's just another unusual foreign flick that has obscene amounts of sexualized themes and images.

I will say this though, the dubstep music during the credits was actually pretty awesome.

Thanks for that, didn't know the composer. So good.

Through googling this movie, I've read about the Guinea Pig series, now that looks scary. Just like "three guys and a hammer," I probably won't watch that, haha. :csad:

Guinea Pig is also tame. I saw the films on youtube a while back, I think they were taken down however. What I do know is that the DVD's are worth quite a bit if you manage to find them.

I also recently saw the August Underground Trilogy, again, not very good and frankly kind of boring. But in the last few years, A Serbian Film, Anti-Christ, and The Human Centipede would top my list as the best new horror/shock films.

Agreed.

It might be odd to say that I enjoyed A Serbian Film Anti-Christ, and Human Centipede, but all three of the films are extremely well made and pretty much just damn good movies.

Anti-Christ is probably the best, with two fantastic performances, some very thought provoking and captivating stuff, as well as several extremely scary and several extremely gory moments.

Serbian film is slick, well made, full of great acting and has this awesome creepy vibe that's hard to get across in most films. The second the guy shows up "on set" and that camera guy starts following him around, I was uneasy. It might not be for the faint of heart, but I'd say it's a far better film than most of the Saw films- and has nothing in it worse than in those movies(Sure, Saw might not face **** a newborn, but the sheer level of torture on screen is definitely more graphic).

Human Centipede is the closest one to fun- it starts out making you think it's going to be total garbage, but it becomes apparent about twenty minutes into the movie with a massive tonal shift that those opening scenes with bad acting and B movie/porn parody cliche are intentional. It has a wonderful villian, fantastic performances, and the middle third of the movie contains one of the greatest suspense scenes in motion picture history. It's also the least exploitive or "gross" of the three films, which is probably very surprising to people considering the subject matter. There's actually very little nudity in the film, no random ****(perhaps sadly, the one girl is damn fine), and the infamous poop eating scene is handled very tastefully and chews up a whole 90 seconds worth of screen time.

I'd say of the three films, Human Centipede is the most mainstream by far- it easily accessible and would probably be enjoyed by basically anyone curious by the film. A Serbian film and Anti Christ both have some highly anti PC offensive stuff going on, but I'd peg Anti Christ as the true soul spitting **** up your life movie.

Then why have you watched it if you knew it's about a country that "you" don't care about?

I'm a fan of sadomasochistic torture, brutal violence, escalated human cruelty, sexual perversion, and everything else deemed grotesque. Why else? :cwink:

You do realize there are cities in the Midwest and conservative little towns on the coast right?

And you do realize that you're exactly the kind of person that should be avoiding these types of movies, right?

I found it, frankly, quite shocking. I knew a bit about it going in... so I wasnt totally blown away but I did find myself a bit repulsed. I will agree with the earlier post about the film "AntiChrist"... phew... also a stunner. I mean its the kind of film that leaves you gobsmacked. "Human Centipede" is another one of them. I mean, these are films that just never needed to be made.

I really liked Antichrist as well. Damn good film.

The Human Centipede was a fun black comedy, imo. I don't understand why it get so much hate. It wasn't even ****** or extremely gore-gross (c'mon, it was 100% medically accurate! :cwink:). Just a decent mad scientist horror flick.

Martyrs takes the crown tho. It's just so awesome.

I love Martyrs! One of the best horror film in recent times! How it plays with your head and goes through several different horror genras while it plays, and you're never quite sure what will happen next = :awesome:

I've been trying to track down Martyrs.. damn, thanks for reminding me.

Exactly. I thought it was going to be stupid, but I ended up enjoying it for what it was.

If you're looking for the blu-ray, the best version is the region B UK release by Optimum. The French version isn't English friendly, I don't think it has subtitles. The Canadian version has no special features. So if you have a region free Blu-ray player, the UK version is best. It's what I picked up. :woot:

Invincible Pictures announced today the theatrical release date for notorious thriller "A Serbian Film." On Friday, May 13th, an edited version of "A Serbian Film" – a film that genre vets have repeatedly encouraged audiences NOT to watch – will be released to select theaters throughout North America. An unrated version of the film will be released exclusively on FlixFling.com the same day.

"This is a excellent opportunity for FlixFling to offer something totally exclusive to our growing community," said Tom Ashley, CEO. "It was always our intention to release this film uncut, but given the recent charges against Sitges Film Festival director Angel Sala, we have decided to release an edited version of the film. We believe this film deserves to be seen as the filmmakers originally intended and hope to be able to release 'A Serbian Film' uncut in the future."

Touted as the most controversial film of all time, called "relentlessly horrifying" by one reviewer, "A Serbian Film" probes the life of Milos, a retired adult film star. Milos is lured out of retirement by a deep-pocketed director seeking to make the ultimate in art-house XXX film. What follows is the most depraved cinematic storytelling of a moral and political allegory ever seen. Consider yourself warned.

FlixFling is the new digital movie service that allows you to watch your favorite movies and shows, and "fling" or stream them from your media device of choice, including watching them within Facebook.
