I'm becoming more and more of a Spider-Man fan.

I love the movies, I love the "Ultimate Spiderman" comic series, and I would love to get my hands on some of the original comics.

Now, I discovered the "Amazing Spider-Man Complete Comic Book Collection" DVD-Rom (I also have my eye on the "40 Years of the X-Men Collector's Edition Win/Mac" DVD-Rom as well)...

Is this a collection of the original comics, like from the very first issue?

I know it should be obvious to me, but there's so many different titles for the Spider-Man comic series, that I'm not sure which one's which...which one's the original, and which ones are the spin-off/sequel titles.

Could you kind folks help me out here?

Is this DVD-Rom as good as it sounds, as good as the X-Men one?

Thank you!

I think it's the first 500 issues of Amazing Spider-Man, which is the original Spider-Man title. I'm not sure if it has issues of Spectacular Spider-Man or Web of in it, which are two of the spin off or sequel titles, as you put it. I don't own it, but 500 issues for about $40 or so sounds like a great deal to me.

Oh good!

Thank you, now that I'm sure it's the original stuff I can buy it!

I bought the 500 issue cd-rom a couple years ago. (2005) Totally worth it.

I was wondering if anyone got the Marvel Masterworks, which collects the original Spiderman comics. Is this worth it?

It depends on what you are looking for. These are expensive hardcover books with glossy pages, reprinting about 10 or so comics per book. I have most of the Masterworks series. I order them on eBay for about $35-40 each including shipping. There is also the Ditko Omnibus coming out that includes issues 1-38, etc. Check out http://www.marvelmasterworks.com/ for more details.

You'll do pretty well for a good while there, but if it's simply Amazing, there'll be a few story arcs (going into the 80's and 90's books) where you'll getting only half the story, because while Parts 1 and 3 and 5 or whatever are in Amazing, Parts 2 and 4 and 6 will be in Spectacular, or Web of, or Adjectiveless.

Just a caution for ya.

Thanks bmrobson! My favorite comic book character is Spiderman but I haven't had the time to read the comics. I'm trying to start from the beginning. I also love the Ultimate series.

Re: Ditko omnibus, surley this can't be all in one volume?
Have you got a direct link to this news anywhere? and finally do you know what volume of SM MM features ASM#38? I've got volumes 6 & 7.

I could be wrong, but is it volume 4?

40 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man is something I've been meaning to get for a long time. I'm actually waiting right now, because there's an updated version out, or coming out, whatever. It goes from the beginning all the way to 2006. Now that's even better, and I think it includes the Annuals too! I'm getting that one for sure!
