Okay, I was looking through a Wikipedia article on David Bowie (just started getting into him) and I noticed on one of the facts that, according to Darren Aronofsky in an interview concerning The Fountain, he says:

"The funny thing is that when I went to meet Bowie, one of the first things he said was, 'Oh, are you doing Watchmen?' It turned out that he was developing an opera out of Watchmen. I was like, 'If I do this film and I **** it up, I'm going to piss David Bowie off.'"

A Watchmen opera written by David Bowie? Has anyone else heard anything more recent about this? What do you guys think if it does get off the ground?

David Bowie and Watchmen in the same sentence is ALWAYS a good thing.

I like David Bowie, and I like The Watchmen, but I don't want to see a film on-screen with The Watchmen as an opera.

If they want to do an opera of The Watchmen, and have it independent of a film and do it on broadway or something, that's fine. I just don't really want to see The Watchmen made into a musical ala Moulin Rouge for the big screen.

Yeah, I'm sure it's going to be on-stage, rather than film, I just couldn't think of a better place to put the thread. :csad:

lol, I dont think that's what this is about. There's no talk of making the Watchmen films a musical here, at all.

Whatever David Bowie is doing with a Watchmen opera has nothing to do with the then-Aronofsky now-Snyder-directed Watchmen film.

i heard it was going to be a concept album ROCK Opera, but that was awhile ago. But whatever. Bowie doing something with Watchmen is pretty cool.

You know as strange as it sounds I think an "Opera" of Watchmen would work better then the way I feel about a movie version.

I say that because I still believe it's going to be impossible for any director/studio to make a deserving adaptation of the Watchmen Novel.

I think an opera or play of Watchmen would have more of a chance to show the sub plots and little characters who are really the human side of the story better then a 2 hour film.

I keep saying that the novel is so layered and deep that its almost cruel to expect Zack Snyder to do it justice in a movie version.

I think the movie is in good hands with Zack but nothing in my mind could top reading the graphic novel.

I went to see an opera over here recently based on the Monkey TV series. It was done by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett (The Gorillaz) - it should be going to Paris, then Moscow, then New York soon. I wasn't too sure about it at first but they managed to make it work, but I'm not sure about Bono's Batman musical
