Age of Ultron Aaron Johnson is Quicksilver

Agreed. Looking at DOFP, this looks like something out of Sky High.
For me it is like a high end version of Smallville's non-slow mo super speed. I like it quite a bit, but it lacks the impact and power I'd expect from say Flash or Quicksilver. I feel like they should be a force of nature when they move.

He looks awesome
in the post credits sequence in Cap America, as said above, it either strains him or more likely, he doesn't fully control it, and the cells are incredibly tiny, he basically looks like a rat trapped in a cage. The superspeed effect looks much cooler than DOFP (which still looks cool imo), there's this white streak, almost smearing, you feel it more tangibly

I think he is either stir crazy or just can't control it yet. I don't think it will strain him later.

It shouldn't be surprising. You can count on 1 hand the amount of characters that the now 7 picture X-Men film franchise has gotten right: 1) Wolverine; 2) Professor X; 3) Magneto; 4) Beast; and 5) Nightcrawler. That's it. Everyone else are just powers.

And even more than the ones he got right are the ones he got soooo wrong. I like Hale Berry as an actress but she was completely miscast in her role. I still shudder at the fake African accent from the first film. Her best effort was in X2, but it still wasn't the Storm from the comics. Storm is as powerful as magneto and somehow they completely minimize her role/importance.

Cyclops....enough said.

Dark Phoenix.....enough said.

To me it's unoriginal and boring. You mentioned Smallville, someone else mentioned Calisto, I said Sky High. It's the same dumb effect that's been used over and over.

Can't really judge it from what we've seen. Those were quick little bursts. Let's see a proper action scene first. Do people not remember the Nightcrawler White House attack from X2? Still incredible even to this day.

If we get a full on speed blitz and some sonic booms then Whedon will have a lot to live up to. Although i'm sure a guy with his imagination won't have a problem.

I think Joss probably picked QS particularly because of how he could do the visual FX of him running around. It should be pretty badass!

I think Joss also picked him to add more conflict to the group. Hopefully, no-one wants QS on the team and don't welcome him with open arms. He should feel forced upon the team and everyone is very reluctantly working with him and would like to get rid of him.

Everything that Joss wrote for Spike, he needs to ramp up even more for QS. He can't just be a likeable a**hole. He has to be a complete unrepentant *****e who comes off really arrogant before there is even any kind of character redemption later in the film. If there were ever any list of most *****ey movie characters, QS really needs to come near the top if not right at the top.

He should be at least as much of a *****e as Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) in Suits, and then some. Don't go in half hearted.

Joss is going to be true to what the comics have been. That's how he's been up to this point, he's not one to make apologies for the source material.

As I said, it's clear DOFP has chosen to make QS a cocky teenager, which is really sad IMO. But as I said it's not surprising, considering they based their interpretation of Juggernaut off a joke viral You Tube video.

You have to admit, that youtube video is gold.

I was only 13 when I saw X3, and even then I remember cringing during that Juggernaut line. That sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not. The only thing that alleviated my pain was a loud family in the back cheering it on; like "oh, at least some people enjoyed that I guess."

I think that was my first experience being really legitimately disappointed in a movie I was hyped for. Thankfully, that shouldn't happen here.

well they might also be double agents; given Strucker's involvement.

well they might also be double agents; given Strucker's involvement.

But what does a double agent have to do with Pietro being a *****e? Some double agents might not be *****ey at all but actually quite agreeable. Whatever he is, he should be someone that no-one wants to work with. He could be the most heroic person of all, but he still needs to rub everyone up the wrong way such that they would rather he were just a villain so they could shoot him.

But what does a double agent have to do with Pietro being a *****e?

i don't necessarily think it would have anything to do with it. but acting like a *****e, if he were a double agent, might aid him. being too nice would lead to suspicion. being an a-hole would make it easier for Wanda to win their trust (good cop bad cap) and allow for Pietro to disappear at times (no one wants him around anyways) to report back to Hydra. because of his speed, he doesn't need to get close to any of them. if it still doesn't make sense, think about Dorian Gray's role in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. he was a condescending prick. but they didn't suspect him until the end.

I would rather that Pietro doesn't simply act like a *****e, but that he is one, and it's completely in his nature to be one. It should be an effort for him to be nice. Also, I think it's far easier for someone to be a *****e and then turn out to be a villain whom the Avengers don't have to live with, than Pietro being one and turning out to actually being a hero. That way they're kind of stuck with him and forced to have to put up with this unacceptable behaviour.

If, in League, it had turned out to be Captain Nemo who was the traitor and not Dorian Gray, then the rest of the team might've been disappointed. It's easier to get rid of the person they don't like. They might secretly wish it were Gray who were the traitor, because who wants someone like him around? But if he's not, then not only do they lose someone who seemed to be a good and decent man (Nemo) but they also gain a big, stuck-up prick in their midst as well.

And that's what would make it fun if that happens with QS.

Yeah I'd rather have the iinsufferable prick be part of the team going forward. Its an added dynamic making the team more interesting.

I think it'd be great if he was so smug and know-it-all that Tony Stark is all like, "Is this how annoying everybody else on the team find me!?"

Or maybe my standards are higher than "look he has the same name as a comic book character." I have my opinion, you're not going to change it by being snarky and we're getting this thread off track. Agree to disagree.

Well said!

One thing I liked about Loki was that even though he was a villain you still had this aspect of him being a product of what happened to him and you wanted to see him be a good guy. I hope Quick has that kind of aspect too. He can be a *****e but also you understand where hes coming from and you still like him for what hes been through etc.

*****ebags do make for the best writing. Look at it, all of our most favorite characters in film and tv currently are *******s in some form.

Quicksilver is not a funny *****e though, he's an angry *****e. The reason we should come around to liking him it not because he's entertaining, but because we feel sorry for him.

Pretty much. Mystique and Toad almost make a second hand though.

Toad was actually a very rare example where the deviation from the original source material made for a better character. Singer's Toad was more interesting than the usual "Lackey" role Toad usually was assigned with in the comics.
