With two Oscars on her shelf already ("The Aviator," "Blue Jasmine"), Cate Blanchett isn't stopping from lining up one awards season worthy role after another. In fact, this fall she's got two, with "Carol" and "Truth," and now another one is brewing with lots of trophy potential.

The Wrap reports that Blachett will play Lucille Ball in a biopic penned by Aaron Sorkin. Wow. The movie will chronicle the TV star's rocky marriage to onscreen partner Desi Arnaz. It was a relationship made more complicated because of the added strain of running the production company Desilu together as well.

It's hard to argue the potential of this project. Sorkin already knows his way around true story tales ("The Social Network," "Moneyball," "Steve Jobs") and Blanchett is one of the best actresses around bar none (and she's played celebrity royalty before, taking the role of Katherine Hepburn in the aforementioned Martin Scorsese film). No director is attached yet but it's safe to say it'll likely be someone from the A-list.

Blanchett is a great actress, but I have a hard time seeing her as Lucille Ball.

Looks-wise... eh, we'll see what they can do. Performance-wise, I have no doubts about Blanchett.

Curious to see who they'd cast as Desi.

Oh wow! She's perfect for this.

OMG. I love Lucy. And I love Sorkin. And I love Cate Blanchett. CANNOT WAIT.

This is so weird. IF she nails the voice, maybe. But she had a very unique vocal tone.

Blanchett was fantastic as Katherine Hepburn who also had a very unique vocal tone.

Great actress but Quentin Tarantino's comment's aint far off with an announcement like this film for Cate.

I want to see Cate do something again that aint award's baity.

But QT also sucked Aaron Sorkin off in that Q&A, so which is it? :o

And how is this award-baity? Just because it's a biopic?

Yes it's a biopic and starring Cate Blanchett. Two of the thing's the Academy loves...a lot. You'd be a fool to not think this aint award's bait.

Debra Messing looks like Lucille Ball. Saw that on Reddit and it's so true.

I feel like there needs to be more boxes checked off for this to be strictly bait. If Lucille Ball was a mixed race, closeted lesbian recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease when she was just trying to put on a show to please her stern, disapproving stage mother...... then maybe. :o

Would love to see her do more comedy. Some of her expressions as Irina in the fourth Indy film were priceless.

And while I doubt she would do very low-budget non-Oscar fare, I would love to see her go back to her roots.

Oscar Isaac for Desi, pls.

Also, please make this already. :o

Pretty sure the 2003 CBS biopic w/Rachel York and Danny Pino already covered Ball's marriage to Desi. Why not focus on her life and career post 1960 (i.e. Wildcat, The Lucy Show/Here's Lucy, Gary Morton, et al)?

Yeah, I'm sure tons of people remember that one.

Did Luci smoke weed? I WANT to say she did.

All gingers smoke weed.

I remember Cate was pictured lunching with Damien Chazelle recently and there was speculation that he was being eyed to direct this, which, c'mon just take my money already. Anyone who's ever seen Cate in Bandits or hell, even seen an interview with her knows that she can totally do screwball comedy. There are few actresses better at voice mimicry too, just see her pitch perfect Katharine Hepburn as proof of that.

Oscar Isaac for Desi, pls.

Oh yes, there is no other option for me.

Holy hell, yeah, I'd love to see Chazelle's directorial energy paired with a Sorkin script.

Blanchett and Isaac is a cool pairing as well.

Hela, you got some splainin' to do.

Some movement on this:

Amazon Studios Boards ‘Lucy And Desi’; Aaron Sorkin Scripting, Cate Blanchett To Play Lucille Ball

EXCLUSIVE: Amazon Studios has acquired Lucy and Desi, the Aaron Sorkin-scripted drama from Escape Artists that has Cate Blanchett attached to star as TV’s pioneering star Lucille Ball. The project has been percolating a couple years. Escape Artists Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce. I’m told that there is already movement toward finding a big star to play Ball’s former husband Desi Arnaz, with names like Javier Bardem in the mix, as well as for Fred and Ethel, the quartet behind one of TV’s classic early sitcoms. The subjects’ children, Lucie Luckinbill and Desi Arnaz Jr are all involved in the authorized telling of the tempestuous love/business relationship between Arnaz and Ball, whose production company launched such series as Star Trek. The rights package empowers the use of memoirs written by both Ball and Arnaz, rights their children have controlled since their parents died.

Come on Oscar Isaac, come on Oscar Isaac...
