ABC cancels All My Chldren and One Life to Live

Did soap operas ever get good ratings?

I've only heard of Luke and Laura's wedding but that was eons ago.

Waiting on word if V and No Ordinary Family have one more season to live :awesome:

Because my sisters watched them when I was younger, I got into soaps during the summers when school was out. I watched the ABC soaps, with General Hospital being my favorite (but in the past 5 years, GH has jumped the shark with the mob stuff IMO).

My sis called me at work today with the news...I was kind of surprised because I had heard they were canceling All My Children, and were possibly merging it with One Life To Live. But they're axing both?! Wow, this is quite a day for daytime watchers. I've enjoyed a couple of stories from both those soaps over the years. It's sad to me, but life goes on.

What's even sadder and more so, messed up, is TPTB didn't even tell the cast of either soap before releasing it to the press.

At least my General Hospital is still alive. That's right. I watch it. :o

I've watched One Live To Live for the past 8 or 9 years, so it will suck to see it go.:( At least I got another 9 months to watch it before it goes bye bye.

Soaps used to get very good ratings but they arent even getting horrible ratings right now imo since they still average around 2mill.

While I rarely watch them it is sad to see them slowly dissapear from tv. Dont know why they just dont try and rework the Soap frame. Either have them run uninterrupted during the usual tv season (minus holidays of course) and then have them have actual finales in may and premires in Sept. That would cut cost and maybe raise viewership. Or just move them to strictly summer. May-August/Sept.

Remember Passions? I won't front, I watched the hell out of that on SyFy.

I loved Passions. All the zany witch stuff with Tabitha and Timmy. That was one nutty soap. After Passions ended, I didn't watch another soap. Then James Franco guest starred on GH and I was curious to see him in that. Then when he left, I kind of stayed watching it.

Kelly Monaco is great to look at also.:hrt:

ahh...Passions. My first major soap opera, first 5 years were GREAT then it jumped the shark even for itself and then got moved and never watched it again. Atleast they finally get Theresa/Ethan get married I think.

Didn't NBC cancel it and then it moved to Direct TV which eventually cancelled it also?

Sad day for all of us Pine Valley fans.

Eh, they're going to return in a few months at a dramatic moment anyway, and reveal that they were in comas on a deserted island the whole time.

And Hoover is boycotting ABC. Hershey's is rumored to follow. I've joined a lot of facebook groups that want to save the soaps, signed some petitions, and posted tons of polite comments on sponsors walls on their facebook pages. Rumor NBC may pick up the soaps...I can confirm Red Vines is supporting the soaps on twitter. Hoover is boycotting ABC by dropping all their ads 24/7 on the network as of yesterday and has e-mail [email protected] that they will forward e-mails to contacts at ABC I watch GH still.

They may have to start doing them with shaky cam in order to evoke that reality show vibe.

Guilding Light went to that cheap look to save money and still got canceled by CBS. Not shaky cam, but those tiny cam's you can by anywhere.

One of many links with story about Hoover.

And all the daytime soaps still beat out everything on TheCW. All the soaps easily do over 10 million a week (granted that is five eppies of around 2 million added up)

Was and still a big fan of AMC and OLTL. Pretty much how I killed time in in HS and college.

And they're replacing the soaps with more...Reality TV. A food show called The Chew and some corny makeover/craft show. Like there aren't a kajillion of these on ION, LivWell, YouTube, and a dozen other cable shows. Ratings frop in 5..4..3..2...

Oh yeah and ABC's affiliates are losing Oprah and Regis.

Have a feeling Brian Frons will be joining Dawn Ostroff on the Unemployment line over this boneheaded move. Worst decision since Fred Silverman mismanaged NBC into bankruptcy.

Music to my ears if true...

ABC Daytime honcho Brian Frons is in hot water over the cancellation of "One Life to Live" and "All My Children," sources said. After Hoover announced it will yank ads over the soap axing, other advertisers like Hershey's and L'Oreal are getting heat from consumers to pull ads. Insiders are pointing at Frons, with whispers he may be in his final days. And Kelly Ripa and "The View" hosts have been told to cease their death-of-the-soaps talk. An ABC rep said Frons "is not leaving the network . . . There has been no directive to the ladies of 'The View' or Kelly Ripa."

We'll see...also, Regis and Kelly is on CBS in Eastern NC, not ABC.
