Hey if your some guy who comes on here everyday and dosnt want to waste time on anybody else but him or herself and dosnt want to help anyone out right now... just hit back and dont read this.

Im starting to lean towards acting eventually and hopefully in films. I need some advice on what to do and how to start... of course you might say, take some classes! learn! practice! Well... I dont have a ****load of money like you do! I do go to school and yes I will probably take Drama to get me started but what else can I do... ANYTHING could be helpful so please say what yo can! I love Comedy... if that helps at all? :woot:

Find some actors you really like, admire, respect and would want to study. Watch their films, read about them, how they approach roles, learn about their technique, then try to apply it to your acting.

Well I have no acting experience (I mean, just High School stuff), but I would say audition as much as you can. Find local theaters (are you in high school or college btw?) or look around at your school to see if any plays are being put on. For those types of productions you really don't need any experience, just gotta impress them somehow. That way you can build up a resume for productions that actually require experience.

Umm don't listen to me, I've been an actor since highschool, but am dreadful infront of a camera, so I got nothing for ya, and I wouldn't have any tips ether cause all the productions I have been apart of have been courtsey of whatever school I am in, or have been at

Hey guys I am glad that none of you went off on me! haha oh and to answer yor question I am in 8th grade! I know... not college... not highschool but middle school! I wanted to start early and try to see if its really what I want to do. I started off wanting to be a comedian but then after watching many Jim Carrey movies I wanted to be an actor.

No better time to start than highschool, get involved with some plays

You'll also probably want to get experience as a waiter because you'll be doing a lot of that as well.

So the point of this post is... what, exactly?

Watch as many movies as you can. Try to observe all types of people. Find roles that are best suitable towards you and the roles that you read and find yourself completely emerssed in. I've read through some screenplays before, professionally done, and have found myself completely trapped in the mind of the character and afterwards have to take a step back. This might be a step in the direction of method or character acting though- trying to become the character for a long or short period of time.

I've acted from time to time and have written several screenplays and teleplays, but at heart I'm just an aspiring film maker. Have never done any professional work.

if you want to get exposed, use video upload sites (like youtube) as much as you can. it's always best if you can get yourself filmed while doing a play or a short film.

Learn to underplay it...most people overact.

NEVER DO REALITY SHOWS!
I'm not saying that cuz I hate them, but professionals in the industry don't take anyone from reality tv seriously.

Over the last few weeks of your 8th grade year, go to your future high school and meet the drama teachers and get to know them. Explain to them what you wanna do and ask them for advice and for any help. Meeting them beforehand makes your first couple of years easier.
Depending on where you live you're most probly gonna have to audition for stage acting and/or for student films.

thanks again... those videos were very helpful... I already watch alot of movies... and I will try and meet up with my drama teachers. Its a big problem if Im the least bit shy isnt it? should I try and overcomee my slight case of stage freight?

I used to be the shyest guy but now i'm extremeley outspoken.
Classes I would recommend taking are obviously Acting class(es) and the class that helped me out a lot was Debate. My high school debate teacher had our class debate basically on what's going on in the world today. Plus it will help your self discipline.

DO you think that just talking to people Im shy talking to will help? at all?

^Talking to people can help, but it's better to take presentational classes because it helps to train yourself not only vocally, but physically also.

Do some school/community theater stuff. It'll help with the stage fright.

haha^ hopefully not!

Theater! DO theater!!! Take public speaking classes, and vocal lessons. These are all things that you will have to come across in the industry. Also mastering these can open you to the wonderful world of voice based roles. :)

But have fun, and be nice. That can help get roles too. If people like working with you they will want to work with you more.

I agreed with what he said about overcoming the stage fright. I'd like to add though that I was a pretty shy person myself back in high school, but when I took my first theater class I got over it pretty quick when I realized that everyone was going to be making a fool of themselves one way or another. Don't be afraid to let loose and open up on stage. I always thought it was better to wind up looking silly then to be boring. That's just high school though, I would guess later on you would want to be a little more professional.
