Greetings all.

I have recently started using a program called SANBOXIE
its located HERE

I suggest, downloading and installing (dont worry, it uninstalls just fine with no problems afterwards)
I will try to explain what it does.

Sandboxie, creates what is called in computer terms, a Sandbox.
This means, the application you load in it, is loaded in a Sandbox.
A Sandbox, is an isolated memory space, and something inside it, is not able to affect changes OUTSIDE the sandbox space.

I will give a small example. Lets say you launch Firefox or IE inside Sanboxie.
Then you goto a website that has some sort of malware installed on it. You reach the website, and it pushes malcode down to you. You honestly, can simply KILL the SANDBOX, and it deletes all files installed or modified inside the sandbox.

Its just another level of protection.

Sounds cool, but can you explain further how it works exactly? If I got this right, you use it with Firefox for example and if you visit a site with malware or whatnot, it will go into the Sandbox so you can delete it later?

In essence this is what happens.

You load Sanboxie, and then run Firefox thru it.
Firefox start loading its files, and builds a cache of files, as it normally does.

Instead of it being on the normal drive, it does it inside the sandbox, so think of it as a separate HD for example. So files are being created such as the .dll files firefox uses...caches files...profile...you name it

If you went to a place where you got a malcode download, it gets downloaded in this sandbox, where all these files are. So it infected your sandbox...big whoop...

You can kill Firefox, and then DELETE the contents of the sandbox.

So you see here, nothing is modified outside the sandbox at all.

great program Malice... thanks for support

I've been using this for a while now. It's pretty good.

If nothing else, you can run your browser inside of a box to contain anything malicious that got through. Then just delete all the contents in the box in case that does happen and have a fresh, clean box to work in.

One tip, anything you do inside the box can be lost if you delete a box's contents. So if you run a browser like Firefox inside a box, and then add bookmarks, and new Add-ins, or update the software, those changes only exists inside the box. If you delete the contents, everything you did will be lost, and you'll have to do it all over again.

So, if you need to do anything permanent like update your add-ins, run Firefox normally and do so. Then run it inside a sandbox, and all your updates will be reflected in the box.

Absolutely, its a great little tool.
Doesnt protect you from everything....but if something gets pushed to you thru your browser, like numerous malcode, it will protect against those.

Yep. And another nice thing is, if you download something you actually want into the box, you can always promote it out of the box, and onto your normal system. That way you never have to stop running your browser in the box to save something.
