Adventure Comics

So I guess Starman's job is digging up Conner body?

Looks like it. Or maybe it's digging up Bart's body to send to the future for the three Brainiacs to prepare for the lightning rod. Remember, nothing is necessarily linear in comics when time travel is involved.

With the power to absorb all goodness out of a story.

Haha, I thought I was the only one who wasn't enjoying crazy Starman.

He just annoys me. He's played for easy laughs and he's just zany for zany's sake.

Yeah, but unlike a lot of characters of that nature (almost all characters of that nature), he's actually done pretty well. I mean, you don't dislike Deadpool do you?

Not when Joe Kelly writes him. I've never really thought of DP as crazy, though. He uses jokes as a coping mechanism like Spider-Man, only he does so while killing people and being generally nasty. Starman just seems to be begging for attention when he does his crazy things. I mean, I know the characters themselves are basically the same sort of crazy, but the way they're portrayed, Starman seems to just be crazy because Johns thought it'd be funny to have a token crazy guy on the team.

Really?

No, seriously...really?

It seemed like he was actually going to explain the in-story reason for it, something to do with protecting information in his mind, but then Johns got a little wrapped up in the Kingdom Come stuff.

I vaguely remember some indications of that. Shame Johns dropped it because I actually liked where he was going with that. Brainiac 5 would totally be devious enough to make Starman crazy for his own protection.

That was a bit of an overstatement. He's definitely crazy, just not to the extent that he purports, in my opinion. He's clearly aware of what he's doing and in control of himself more often than not. It's not like he just does things and doesn't understand what he's doing. He does things for reasons, which suggests he's not as crazy as he seems. He plays it up for comedic effect and to make his opponents underestimate him. That's my personal take on Deadpool.

I've always looked at his psychosis as what The Joker would be like if he were ever a "good guy". Same basic personality when you break it down, ya know?

Johns did fully explain it in the Gog arc and it was rubbish.

I just hate the zany randomness:

"Oh I HoPe tHeY SeRvE SlOppYjOEs tOdAy!!!!"

I've just stopped reading Starman's word balloons.

I didn't feel like it was fully explained. I felt like he gave us a little hint. Maybe the rest will come out in Lo3W.

I fell for him in like the first issue when one of the first things out of his mouth was "Ha! 52!" back when 52 was still going on. I just thought that was so cute.
