I was wondering if we could kinda compile a list and stuff on the affects comic book films have had on the comic book medium.

I mean, for example....I think comic book films and the reality most of them seem to shoot for, Singer's X-Men....Rami's Spider-Man....Nolan's Batman.....there's a real sense of reality I think the comics are trying to go for nowadays.

I also know that X-Men basically changed how the X-Men looked in the comics too. Batman Begins seemed to have convinced the comics to bring Joe Chill back into continuity. The Fortress of Solitude has made a comeback after Superman Returns. Superman's costume has also seen a makeover too.

The films are making novice comic book readers think that comic books are something they are not.

Thanks to the X-Men films, Wolverine's now in practically every Marvel comic. I hear he's in the Ultimate Avengers team too?!

Comic books should not be altered to match the films that are based on them.

The affect is horrendous and instantaneous! :( :cmad:

For long-time readers, you get the feeling you've been cheated....

For example: After digging myself into Superman books the last two or so years, everything the writers built toward has been both erased and dumbed-down in order to support Superman Returns...the Worst Movie of the Year!

But, you can't exactly blame the filmmakers. That's really up to the people in charge of the comics per se to choose what to do.

Comics probably shouldn't be altered after a film......but it certainly happens. The Joe Chill thing stands out as a major plus I think.

And, getting the Fortress of Solitude back in the comics is a good thing too, no?

I hear you on the Wolverine thing though. That dude is a now a Major player, I mean...huge now.

Spidey's getting the symbiote back if you've been looking at the previews...Don't know WHY or even HOW but he is, just to coincide with the movie.

The X-men were the most obvious with their black leather. Even Wolverine looked...*shudders*...prettier.:(

Bullseye for a while sported the trenchcoat look.

Blade (which is actually a good thing). Pretty much a carbon copy of the movies now.

Lady Deathstrike for no reason did an arc with Stryker (who made a comeback after like...20 years) and even started sporting black leather.

Sabretooth STILL sometimes does that whole long haired feral thing, dead animals and all, long after X1.

Mystique has been drawn with scales by a lot of people. They can't decide on what look to stick with.

Magneto...Come on man. No more tights? :(

Toad (which was arguably a GOOD change).

Ghost Rider. Alright. Where the hell did all this Roxanne crap come from? I could have sworn before this movie, there was no such character...And to add to that, apparantly Johnny Blaze had two kids...

I didn't know Bullseye sported the trenchcoat in the books after DD, although I know in the Punisher game he did.

I didn't know Spidey was going to get the Symbiote suit back on him....that's....interesting, I guess.

X-3 = House of M "curing" mutants of the earth

The Fortress has always been in the comics post-Crisis, it's just there's hardcore comic fans out there don't like seeing the crystalline version of the Fortress from the movie, for whatever reason. Ditto for Zod showing up; we know there's a Zod in the comics, but up until now Ursa and Non have never been a part of post-Crisis lore. And there's the S-buckle, which is so small a change to Superman's outfit that IMO it's a very petty thing to be arguing about. I could understand if it were something more radical like Electro-Superman from a couple years back that would have fans saying "WTF?"; on the other hand, the movie version of the Fortress of Solitude was the first incarnation of it I was ever exposed to and as such it's the first thing that comes to mind for me even now when you mention it.

This doesn't even encompass all the changes made to the regular DCU in the wake of the DCAU: a Batgirl being brought back into the comics; characters like Harley Quinn, Mercy Graves, Livewire all being incorporated into comic continuity; Mr. Freeze's origin; etc. You don't see too many people arguing about THOSE changes.

Roxanne has been in both the original 70s series and the 90s series. She was/is one of the main supporting characters and yes Blaze did have 2 kids, Emma and Craig. Roxanne and Blaze were married and owned the Quinten Carnival...all of this was revealed in the 90s series.

Really? Wow. I was always under the impression that it was basicly Johnny's dad has cancer, Johnny makes a deal, dad crashes instead, Johnny becomes Ghost Rider...Okay, was it always Lucifer too or was it Mephisto?

well...its interesting how this went about. back when the 1970 series started it was Satan who made the deal w/ Blaze. after a few issues he dropped out of sight but it was always referenced that GR got his powers from Satan. around issue 68 (not sure on this...but it was later in the series) the main villain was Mephisto and it was assumed he was the one who made the deal w/ Blaze. they never explained it was another demon that tricked Johnny...they just did a "re-boot" of sorts stating that Mephisto was behind it all to begin with.
from what i understand (again not 100% on this) back in the early 80s Satanism was starting to get a lot of bad publicity. Marvel i think took the initiative and took out all references to Satan from the book. since the Marvel version of Mephisto isnt really the Devil it was enough to get by it seems.
Personally i will always remember that Blaze made a deal the Devil...regardless of what Marvel wants to call him this week...heh

Well, the Fortress of Solitude that everyone knows was destroyed in the FOR TOMORROW story arc, and instead Superman got a New Fortress in the jungle somewhere......like an Aztec Prymaid or some ****. After Superman Returns, though they brought back. I heard it came back with the help of Jor-El this time, more like the films too I guess.

I actually dig the changes to the costume. Lot better than Blue Superman. Or Red Superman too.

I think the things that effect the comics after the films are:
- Cloth or suit design. Wolverine for example.
- More realistic dialogue and storyline.
- Funny scene. Like in Fantastic Four.

I agree with everyone that comic book movies affect the outlook on their comic book source.
Im not a huge comic book reader, but I do LIKE the MOVIE aspects of comics. I know that a advid comic book reader get IRK'ed when the movie edition is different than the comic.
As a advid movie go'er I know that like novels they dont always follow the source, nor should they in some instances. I personally don't think that bright vibrant color of some comics work in a theatre settings. I dont know how many times I've watched a comic movie saying, they should of made it a darker film(spiderman was one of the few that pulled that off).
I like the fact of comic movies being made realistic more personable than comics, which makes u feel for the characters(if done right). People perceive comics as childish toy(at least when ur older),and comic movies more adultish.
For me personally after seeing a comic movie it somewhat makes me more interested in the comics.Though Xmen didn't have that affect on me(except for the jean grey character,to be honest I didnt care for wolverine, storm(well, halle berry looked absolutely scrumchis),or most of the other characters.
Its doesn't do comics justice if they try to capitalize on movies success by altering their normal routine or way of writing. Its just the opposite when goin to big screen.
I've said this many times, what works in comics don't always work on big screen, and vice versa. Im not anal when a comic movie don't follow the comic source to the tee, I know its not,and sometimes thats for the best.
anyways, peace out. C'mon 300/spiderman 3!!!

Apparently Spidey is not getting venom back, but instead will be wearing a black costume...there seems to be a tragic event in his life coming up that causes him to dress black (personally I think Mary Jane will be killed off, but thats just opinion...)
