I know this is premature since the Dark Knight Rises hasnt even been completed or knowing who the villain is or what the plot will be but...

I couldnt help but think....is this the end of Batman?

Hes a cash cow for WB so I know they wont totally put him to bed but, Will WB try to reboot him yet again like Marvel is trying with Spider-Man?

Is this what we can expect from now on...a director to take control of a trilogy and then someone else is handed the reigns down the road?

How long does WB wait to film another Batman..if ever?

I think they should do an older Batman after Nolan's done or try to do a Batman Beyond live action movie. They were planning on doing a BB movie but they decided to do Batman Begins instead.

I think that would be an interesting way to go. I mean what is their alternative...find another director to show us his origin again ? Gets old after awhile.

Yeah, especially after having such a solid origin already. I don't think it would make sense to do another origin story any time soon, but you never know what the people at WB are thinking.

If anyone should have an origin in the next Batman series, it should be Robin. And not the early twenties, sexually curious Robin Joel Schumacher gave us.

The first 2 films gave the sense that they're building the Batman universe, so depending on what happens with The Dark Knight Rises (although judging by the title, it doesn't sound like they'll be killing Batman off) a full-on reboot probably won't be necessary. Once Nolan's done, just hand it off to a new director, have him give it his own spin, but he won't have to tell the same story all over again.

Hasn't Bale said he's done after 3 movies? Although cash is king so who knows... My guess is Nolan will have his say with 3 movies and move on... and DC/Warners will move on by starting over in 5 years.

If Bale's done, then he's done. I've no problem with recasting.

I'd like to see them continue on with Batman stories... one building on the other... keeping the same "theme" but if they have to recast Batman then fine. Batman, to me, could be like the James Bond series... the villains could return repeatedly without having "origin" stories told each time.

I would prefer that idea that surfaced a few monhths ago, a live action tv series, if not that, then the 'James Bond' type situation, continuing adventures with different actors playing Batman every 2/3/4 films.

Bales line has been his done when Nolan is done. If Nolan doesn't want to make anymore Batman movies then he won't comeback either.

I don't mind what they do next just as long as it doesn't go back into Joel Schumacher Batman & Robin territory

That won't happen, but ironically what happened with that movie, is what kind of needs to happen with further BM movies. B&R was the first BM movie that moved into the realm of proper sci-fi, with both villans having superpowers.
They should move into that kind of territory after the Nolan movies, but do it very tastefully and subtle, so it does not come over as such a big dramatic gearshift. If they did it along the lines of DC's 'The Fly', a sci-fi movie that explains everything and feels like it rests in the real world, then it would flow after the Nolanverse very naturally. That's what all the best sci-fi movies do anyway, rest the tech in the real world, except for this one big dramatic difference that is introduced.

They can easily bring back the Joker (but played by a new actor, of course) and Scarecrow. Arguably, they can even bring back Ra's and Two-Face if they wanted to.

Nolan's Batman has kinda become the definitive modern version. And with it being such a success story, I can't see WB going for a reboot or another origin story involving Batman for at least 8-10 years after the final Nolan film.

Providing the next film matches the quality and success of both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight ................................it would also be a very scary job if you were the Director who is chosen to continue on with #4 in this franchise - you've been preceded by one Christopher Nolan who has made arguably the 3 best Batman films on screen. And like James Cameron with Terminator 1 & 2, Nolan has very much made the Batman films his own, with his own creative take on the material and some great casting choices. Look at T3 and T4 - not a patch on the 2 before them. I have a feeling any subsequent Batman films which try to further the trilogy in the Nolan Universe will suffer from the same problems that the Terminator sequels did - there's not a lot of other directors out there will be able to follow Nolan's lead with the same precision and skill.

Personally I have a sneaking suspicion we'll see some kind of TV material, maybe a Batman show. After all, whether you love or hate Smallville ............. it has been a cash cow for WB, and it was originally intended to be about Bruce Wayne's beginnings before they amended it to become a Clark Kent/Superman show. Now that Batman is back in the public eye and is hot property so to speak, this may be the safest way for WB to continue milking profit out of it without the potential of tainting the movie series.

I think this is something WB should consider to keep the character active. Only thing is the writer would have to keep Nolan's world & writing style which is a tough task. Many writers can offer a new plot, villain or mission, ala Bond, and keep Batman in the fold with a new movie every so often. Bale can continue without Nolan if he chooses to, since that probably wont happen a new Batman ,when they are ready to take the part for 2 or 3 films every so often might not be a bad idea.

I hope the next take is different.
Nolan's Batman has a grounded realism in which there are more boundaries than the version presented in comics and tv series.

The comic version has a more fantastical reality, allowing for more diverse kinds of situations and fantastical villains, like Clayface, Man-Bat, Mr.Freeze and others showing their full abilities.

I wouldn't have Nolan's version diferently, since I think the movies are superb. But after three movies like that, I want the next take to be different, daring on the more mystical aspects of the character's history.

this is my suggestions after The Dark Knight Rises:

Crispin Glover as the Joker

Amanda Seyfried as Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn

Melinda Clarke as Dr. Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy

John Malkovich as Dr. Víctor Fries/Mr. Freeze

Stephen Lang as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke

Logan Lerman as Dick Grayson/Robin

Emma Stone as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl

Bye

I'd like to see them get closer to the comics. The latest Batman video games proves you can do a suit very close to the comics that allows for martial arts without stiff movements and a great utility belt. In fact, that whole game would have made a great film.

If they were to reboot, they should hire Guillermo Del Toro to direct.

Why? Because it should be as serious as the Nolan films but also as fantastical as the Burton films. It should have-at least a cameo-of characters like Clayface, Killer Croc, Mr Freeze and also others like Joker, Two-Face, and Black Mask.

It would be like a live action BTAS. Which would be :awesome:.

I'll post my cast later.

Ron Perlman would definitely have to be in there some place. ;)

I've been saying this too much but I can't find one piece of true directing talent in Del Toro for my life. Except in creating fantastic creatures and monsters, which could have him a good place at the special effects department. His Hellboy franchise is not even bad, just boring. He can't be serious other than pretending to be, Hellboy 2 was just a big-budgeted sitcom.

Pan's Labyrinth?

Great acting. But the main role was quite flat and the reality-fantasy mix felt to me just like two diufferent movies, not like one movie with both in it. Still much better than his Hellboy movies

Anyways I guess he'd be following the Hellboy way before the Pan's Labyrinth way for Batman.

I dont personally have anything against Del Toro, he does have creativity for sure on his side. I dont personally like him for Batman though.
