Marvel has officially revealed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will assemble the first narrative pieces to next summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron Sequel.
In an official reveal via Entertainment Weekly, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Executive Producer Jed Whedon said that the ABC series will tie into Age of Ultron in some capacity.
“You should expect something,” he told EW. “The Avengers is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we’re included in that.”
Marvel didn’t reveal exactly how their prime-time series would lead into Age of Ultron, but indicated that the tie-in won’t be as significant as the one between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In that crossover, S.H.I.E.L.D. dissolved during the events Winter Soldier, forever altering the direction of the Agent Coulson-led series.
“I don’t think any movie has the potential to impact us in the way that Captain America 2 did,” executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen told the publication. “But there will be connections.”
With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s midseason finale airing tonight, it's possible that Marvel might have an Ultron teased planned. In fact, Phil Coulson's Clark Gregg told Comicbook.com that tonight's episode will change the series in a big way. We assumed that he referring to the presence of the Kree alien race, but today's announcement certainly makes the speculation more intereting, doesn't it?
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.

Was there ever any doubt that it would? :woot:

As I said in another thread, this makes sense. Tying the series in to films released in the spring will probably be the norm going forward hopefully.

Since we have old SHIELD/Hydra stuff in AOS, I guess it will be about the "dormant program" Tony is about to jumpstart

If the show sticks around, its an easy fit into Civil War, and I'd like to see Deathlok, Mockingbird, Quake (if she exists) choose sides.

Inhumans/super powered people is a tie in plot point as well (SW and QS)

Maybe Baron Strucker will show up to "check up" on Whitehall and crew (if the latter makes it through the winter finale)?

I hope they use this as a way to reveal Coulson is alive to the Avengers. That way the AoS crew can pop up in the movies to help out in bit parts

Personally, I'm kinda ticked that whatever move that Hawkeye and friends makes on Hydra's "last" base doesn't involve the agents cast. Deathlok would CERTAINLY want to be involved in toppling the Hydra big bad...and Mockingbird is buds with Hawkeye...and if Quake (or whoever) is around then she could be of use. I feel like not involving them in Civil War would be a disservice to the universe they are building.

In fact...Mockingbird has a secret agenda...and I wouldn't be surprised if it somehow related to Stark or Cap.

Luckily for us Marvel tends to think these things through as well as keep secrets pretty well so even though at this point it does seem unlikely, anything could happen.

In other news, water is indeed wet

There is also the fact that Hill in AOS mentioned that Stark was privatizing World Peace.
So... dormant program

That or super powered people (HYDRA experiments, Kree blood, Inhumans)

i think the tie in will be when the beginning of AOU begins with avengers trying to fight hydra off.. this is awesome

Was there ever an indication that Agents of SHIELD wasn't going to tie into Age of Ultron? It's already tied into every other Marvel movie from The Avengers onward.

The Avengers: Coulson's resurrection/the whole theme of living in a world post-"Avengers"
Iron Man 3: Extremis plotline in the pilot
Thor TDW: "The Well"
Captain America The Winter Soldier: "Turn, Turn, Turn"
Guardians of the Galaxy: The Kree being shown/mentioned

I'm more curious to see how the show will tie into stuff like Doctor Strange and Black Panther, if it sticks around long enough, that is.

Now we can get reverse whinning from nitpickers!!!

Instead of people saying "why doesn't Coulson just call Tony Stark?" Now we can get movie trolls to say, "Why don't the Avengers call Daisy "Quake" Skye Johnson?"

Haha, well I highly suspect that finale will involve Hydra making some huge bid for power (though how exactly that moves forward without
Whitehall
is beyond me), and the Agents will be basically in over their heads.

And while we don't really get to see anything, Coulson and friends get some breathing room once word gets through that Hydra bases across the world are getting hit by Tony's now active "privatized global security", which is essentially the re-assembled Avengers.

Maybe they don't directly impact the sect of Hydra that Coulson's crew are fighting, but it definitely demands attention when the likes of a thunder god, a power suit that fires lasers, the super soldier who killed the Project Insight bid for power, and a raging gamma beast are decimating bases and they have no idea of knowing which base is next and things suddenly get very interesting for the bases that Strucker is sacrificing.

However, only time will tell if any of my speculations are anywhere near correct.

I know that no one wants this and it may not seem like much of a threat...but what if the awakening of Ultron and his control over other robots were to reach all the way to LMDs and the Koenigs become a threat to the AoS team as a kind of Deltites storyline???

That would kinda suck tbh... I don't see Ultron being around long enough for a weekly show to concern themselves with the actual fight that much anyway. He seems more like a dealt with quickly villain

I agree...the idea in theory sucks...I'm just saying...there's comic precedent for the LMDs to turn evil. But like I said, I dont see anyone taking an army of Koenigs seriously anyway.

I dunno, I'm looking forward to the Koenig's taking down Ward

The tie in will more than likely have to do with Strucker, Hydra in Europe and the captivity of the twins (inhumans) than anything Ultron related.

Maybe Coulson and his team find Strucker's base and decide that it's beyond them so they call Hill to tell Stark to assambel the team. That's before the premier and then in the next episode maybe one or two Ultorn-bots show up ( I know they need a lot of CGI but one or two is possible)

Given how well AoS has been playing in, and integrating into, the MCU sandbox, I actually could see Coulson & co. tracking down HYDRA and feeding intel to Stark. At this point, I think an RDJ cameo would even work (he seemed open to the idea a while back on reddit). In context, it would feel like a natural progression of SHIELD's (and Coulson's) storyline. And the show has finally established itself as a strong enough independent entity, to the point where it wouldn't feel like Stark's presence would be the only reason to watch the episode -- this probably wouldn't have worked in the first season, but I think it would now.
