Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD s01e04: "Eye Spy" Discussion

Started a little slow, but a pretty good episode overall.Got to see a little action with May.The girl that played Akila (SP?) was very good.Ward is growing on me a bit more.Give him time. The "seduce him" thing was LOL funny.

On the negatives,a bit more gruesome than a "pg" rating,IMO.Thought the "pee" joke was unnecessarily tasteless.

Really enjoyed this episode. Like every Whedon venture, I can really feel the show finding its footing in these early eps as each one feels just a little more assured than the last, imo. I get the impression that HYDRA's gonna get name-dropped any day now, lol.

That said, no more needles in eyes, please. That took two of my biggest phobias and put them together. *shudder*

I still say, that via Killian, AIM is an extension of Hydra

Two solid episodes in a row. It definitely has improved since the first two episodes. This episode felt more realistic in terms of a threat that SHIELD would handle than a supervillain of the week. The ploy with multiple guys in red masks was very lame though. I thought it would be cooler from the promos.

Also, was wondering when they would mention the Battle of New York this episode. Didnt disappoint.

The guys in the red masks reminded me of something John Byrne did can't remember where tho

uh, just how did Ward know to tell the Scots to cut the wires and that would disable it?

where was this filmed? I presume not Belarus.

They filmed in Stockholm; I'm sure some of the Swedish locations could've doubled for Belarus. But their location budget is impressive....they shoot about as much in Europe as they do in America. So it wouldn't be shocking to hear it really *was* Belarus.

Fitz told ward he was holding the 'still attached' eye in his hand, then Ward saw himself in a mirror, so he knew the handler would have seen that too blowing his cover, and would hit the kill switch asap. Cutting the wires didn't disable it but it gave them time to get the little bomb safely out of the way (they chucked it into a little cannister) before it blew.

I can believe many things, but the intro for this episode is beyond my suspension of disbelief.
It's fine to see that a US studio finally films on location, and get the location right for once, especially when it's my fair home country of Sweden. However, a minor research into Swedes would show them that 6 men in dark suits, hoods and red masks with briefcases tied to their hands wouldn't be able to get through Sergel Square that easily. Although it is a highly populated area, it's also known for a high crime rate and chances are more than likely that they would be robbed before they reached the subway.
This is not what pushed the envelope here, I can believe that they would get through since they watched each other's backs.

However, just a few seconds into the intro, we see many Swedes proudly waving Swedish flags... In the middle of Sergel Square! This would never happen unless they were football fans and there was a match going on nearby, but then they would have football gear on, or if their heads were shaved and they wore bomber jackets and military boots, but these were normal people.
Swedes are a bit afraid to show nationalism, since that is heavily associated with xenophobia in Sweden and most people who have ever visited Sweden knows this.

Anyway, no need to make a huge fuzz over it, AoS is still probably the best superhero series to come out this millennium!

When they were in the van, there was an interference with 2 kids playing

Was one of them dressed as Thor ?

coulson, "I live outside the box"

anything?

Two solid episodes in a row. Glad to see that it's picking up.

When Coulson's "death" is discussed they're going to talk about New York. Whether you like it or not, the events of the MCU are part of this show's recent history and the characters will bring them up. People would be whining about it if they didn't.

I don't think this is the last we see of Akela Amador.

Not bad. Glad to see the show improving, especially the music. I get what they were going for with the orchestral sound, but it was really cheesy.

I would say that it's silly that they mention his death every week...but if I knew a guy who died but was still hanging around all the time chatting it up, I'd talk about it every time he walked away as well.

Coulson is the elephant in the room, so to speak.

"never seen tech this advanced" coupled with Extremis showing up again next week points toward = Advanced Idea Mechanics being the baddies controlling Akela in my opinion

Interesting that they kept shutting down the possibility of esp in the MCU. I'd have thought they would want to keep their options open.

I do wish they'd add to it, though, instead of just reminding us about it every week. I know it's only been 4 episodes, but I've already lost interest, what with almost every character having a mysterious past.

Still guessing AIM and HYDRA are one and the same.
