What are some movies you think that people just weren't ready for when they came out; thus, making them underrated classics.

Dick Tracy - 1990

AvP-R.

One day, it shall be held as classic. Right along with "Ass".

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

Blade Runner was met a mixed reactions when it first came out but over time has become a classic.

The Thing.

But then again, it did come out RIGHT when ET did....

I also think Watchmen will be something special. Like the book.

Dammit, I must've said American Psycho because of patrickbateman's subliminal messaging or something.

Anyway, no one was ready for Blade Runner on 1982.

EDIT: gaddamn it Eggyman!

Reservoir Dogs?

UltraViolet. It was too good for the world, so they deemed it the suckth. But little did they know....:brucebat:

I'm going to say:
The Empire Strikes Back.
Oh sure, it made alot of money. But it was met with mixed reactions when it came out & it wasn't until years later that people saw it as the best Star Wars.

I never knew that, I assumed that it was always liked by critics.

All aspects were better, but it didn't go down as well as A New Hope because, well, for starters it wasn't groundbreaking, and secondly it ended on a sour note rather than the happy joy joy that its predecessor did.

Even though they were both succesful, I think Aliens and T2. You look at their special FX now and that don't seem to have aged much, they are still right up there with the best even today. So yea technically, they were ahead of their time.

9 1/2 Weeks
Carnal Knowledge

Arguably the two best protrayals of primal sexual relationships ever put onscreen. Both incredibly controversial and misunderstood.

Unbreakable - I don't think the general audience were ready to take comicbook mythology and superheroes so seriously, this might have done better critically and commercially at this point in time.

The night of the hunter. Sadly a flop when it came out and since then recognized by most as one of the greatest film ever.

This is the most elgitimate movie that any of you have listed so far. Big Trouble in Little China? Dick Tracy? Come on. I wouldn't go so far as to call them classics. Blade Runner is the only one on this list that not only went on to become classic, but an important film as well.
