Alice in Chains - Black gives way to Blue album sampler

AIC- Check my Brain video

New Alice in Chains coming out September 29th. There has been three songs released so far including Check my Brain above. The sampler sounds good too.

Personally, I really dig everything I've heard, and cannot wait to hear the new album in it's entirety.

I've been listening to Music Box in my car the last couple days. I really played the hell out of Facelift and Dirt in the early 90's, and some songs just make me Nostalgic when I hear them now. But the newer songs a couple times, I really find it nice to hear that they still have that crunch to it. I live Duvall's Vocals, they are so mixed with Jerry's, that it still sounds like AIC. But he has a Cornell-sh range.

But anyway, discuss?

Saw them August 1st in Dublin (supporting Metallica), I had never really heard their stuff before and I was very impressed. They put on a great show.
I'll definitely pick up Black Gives Way To Blue.

I'm pretty happy that all the news about this album is "Metal Album of the Year" now.

Listened to the first few tracks today. It's not bad by any means but...I don't know how to put this. It sounds like a band listened to the song Dirt, then made an entire album trying to sound like that song, but missed...some element that I can't describe. It's just not the same without Layne.

It's a dud. Sounds like a collection of Cantrell's solo work outtakes. Pretty meh. They're obviously going with the Alice in Chains name because they must be on a bread & water diet these days.

I dunno about that. Cantrells solo stuff was pretty awesome a lot of the time, and had a sound distinct from AIC. This is just...like I said, not bad, but missing something. They need to shoot their new singer full of heroin I think.

I'm going out on a limb with this, but maybe it sounds like dirt because it's the same people who made it? AIC has a signature sound, from what I've heard, this album matches it.

I always really liked Alice in Chains, but I've always had a bit of resentment toward some fans that believe Layne was the be all end all of Alice in Chains. The guy was the main reason they had to cancel shows and tours in the Mid-90's, and Jerry wrote almost all the songs anyway.

I know that it's the same people who made Dirt. What I'm saying is it sounds like Dirt, but there's something not there. The element that brought everything together on Dirt is missing.

And I know Layne had a lot of problems, and yes Jerry wrote the music, but Layne wrote most of the lyrics, with a few exceptions like Rooster. I think his problems were one of the main contributing factors to their sound really, and like I said, this comes off more like a group of guys trying to sound like Alice in Chains, instead of Alice In Chains.

But, it is still Alice in Chains, though. Losing a singer and co-lyricist isn't going to change that much of the sound of the band as a whole. And honestly, from what I have heard since the break-up in albums like Boggy Depot and Degradation Trip, Jerry was a much bigger part of the music than I ever gave him credit for. And from what I heard, Duvall isn't a Layne clone, and has his own vocal flair that works with harmonizing with Jerry (which is most of the sound), and on his own parts as well.

This is one of those AC/DC things, IMO. I'm sure if the internet was around when Back in Black was released, people would have been saying it doesn't sound like AC/DC anymore... And you could forget about Back in Black being as big of a classic it was regarded as.

To me, it really sounds like solo Cantrell. And I like Cantrell solo stuff -- half ot it, at least.

I'm on crack? F**k. And I thought I was clean.

*seriously, I hate drugs

Take a listen to it, especially Your Decision and Private Hell.

I've listened to this like a crackhead since I found it.

So you're the one who's on crack! :hehe: That's why you think it sounds like AIC!

*kidding, kidding

If the band was on crack, then it would sound like AIC. Both of you, give them all your crack.

Well, this is released today. I would really suggest some of you pick it up, after about 3 listens, I think it's one of the best albums I've heard in a while. Without a doubt, classic Alice In Chains.

*edit*

Got tickets to see 'em in November, only heard Crack My Head. It was okay. Gonna get the whole album soon :)

I heard the new AIC song on radio (I think it was A Look in View), and I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised by the new AIC. The new vocalist William DuVall obviously sounded different than Layne Staley, but they still retain the style of the old AIC. If the rest of the album is as good as their first single, I think I'll like this new-look AIC.

Listened to this album about 20 times now (was out Traveling a lot during the past week), still thrown off by the people saying that it does not sound like Alice in Chains. Love this album, love it!

Awesome record.
A Looking In View, Last of My Kind and All Secrets Known are my favorites right now.

This is a great album!

Where it's great to see all the televised promotion and the Album is getting awesome reviews from the press and especially the fans, it just sucks they won't be touring the states again till after Thanksgiving.
