Personally, that review has me excited. I still don't see what the problem is. It seems we're going to get a good story to technically restart the Superman brand.

Again, you can't blame Singer for sort of reintroducing Superman to the audience. It's been 18 years since the last one, 28 years since the first film.

This is a different generation. Some may need this introduction/sequel to Superman.

For the sequel for Returns, they need to go beyond Lex. That, I agree with.

Exactly, its been 28 years. Its time to let go of Donner...we don't need a sequel to a 30 year old movie. He isn't reintroducing, he's continuing. That was Singer's first mistake and its all been downhill since then. He could've done a good movie if it weren't for his constant hard on for Donner.

I didn't read it, don't have time, but overall good or bad? I can't have two bombs, X3 has me worried enough. :(

The guy was positive, but some of the details they revealed leave something to be desired.

Seems that if you liked the first two superman films you will like this one. Seems to run pretty close to the first story (similar elements).

Not sure if I like that idea yet.

I kinda like the review the kid doen't worry me that much as long as he doesn't ahve superpowers and starts showing them in the movie, the things that worry me the most are: first the camp, It should have some comedic or funny moments but just to break the tension but not for cheese, number two the romantic aspect of it.Yes the romance between Lois and supes is good but I don't want it to be like spiderman 2 with clark(instead of peter) moaning like a lovesick teenager for lois throughout the whole movie.

Children of protaganists = movie suicide (i.e. The Legend of Zorro, The Mummy Returns, etc). I swear to god, if the kid sword fights his teacher with a ruler I am walking out.

Come on, it's obvious you simply have something against Singer. How exactly has it been "downhill"? And you do not know that it isn't a good movie yet.

We do not need another origin story! Everyone KNOWS where and how Superman originated!

I'm afraid we could have two disappointments - X3 and SR. Both haven't been getting the most positive buzz lately.................

Imagine if BOTH MOVIES sucked! That would be a buzz killer, wouldn't it?

Although, I have to say that Superman has the advantage over X3 because they enough prep time to polish everything up, while X3 was rushed throughout the whole production. People can deny it all they want. Hell, I'm a supporter of both movies and I see the problems they faced.

Everyone knows Spider-man was bitten by a radioactive spider. They should've just skipped over that fact and the first movie and just started where Spider-man 2 picked up.

But according to this review we ain't gonna see him in all his glory until an hour in?
I thought the idea of continuing (sort of) from Donner's was to avoid that?

The reviewer irritates me,he acts like his view on the kid is so correct and their can be no other:down
Glad to hear he liked it and the sound of a lot of good scenes but the kid is supes and that is a a negative IMO that is gonna harm my enjoyment of it

Man I thought that was just a rumor....:(

I just hope the sequel doesn't center around the damn kid (ala Mummy, Zorro). It does take away from the 'jist' of the franchise.

Yeah the reviewer bugged me too, I got a "plant" like feeling from him. All the complaints that has been directed towards the movie, with the kid being the biggest one, was shot down by him in a "you should like what they did with the movie otherwise you are just a nitpicking fanboy" way. Makes me want to not see the movie.

Yeah he seemed like a plantish type to me,the review felt no more objective than the fake one from UGO

We can only hope man:(

The real problem with superheroes having kids is that it ends up taking the serious tone of the story and transforms it into pure stupid nonsense camp. He's supes son well that's okay we can't do a thing about it,as long as he doesn't do a thing in the movie just stay with mommy lois and he doesn't have many lines everything should be alright.

What would be telling is how the writers respond to this review: They were quick to shoot down the Moriarty and Ugo reviews, but some of the main details (and complaints) they had are actually confirmed by this new one. So if the writers do support this positively spun version you can draw your own conclusions as to just what has gone on over the last day or so.

That is what bugs me the most with the kid, the fact that this screws up potential sequels. No Doomsday fighting because Superman has to pick up the kid frpm school or worse bringing the kid with him to fight villains...It´s a bad idea...

I'm pretty much with everyone else on this one. The kid is a BIG problem for me. It doesnt fit and it doesnt work and I dont know why someone didnt tell Singer that. The more I read the more it becomes clear that Singer really knows nothing about the comics and more about just the original film.

So what if there is going to be a kid in the comics...Just wait till it gets way too crowded and they retcon him again. I will see this movie, and I still have hope....But......I never wanted this. Too many things are the same. Too many things are transparent. SO this is what makes Superman relevant? And that remark? ugh....Someone needs to have a talk with that guy about an actual relationship. He obviously has never had a real one. I dont know about any of you guys but if I had a gf, lost her and then returned to find she is with someone else....well thats tough for me or anyone really. Only time you ever see a guy love someone so much that they compete with the current bf for her attention is in the FREAKIN MOIVES. That crap doesnt happen in real life. We move on...we evolve and yes while we may be jealous we dont pine over someone elses woman. That's just pointless. You had your shot....you lost it...Case closed. Unless the guy happens to be an ass or beats her.....you dont get in the way...its not your relationship and you should find yourself a new girl.....

I have NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER with the kid in the movie.

I just want it to be a good movie and story.

You aren't the only one. I was nervous about it when I first heard there was a kid. It seemed strange. But I've gotten used to the idea, and I see a few potentially interesting storylines. I hope it turns out well.

Wow! Just... wow!

This is the only post in the SR forums I've read today - I just clicked on this thread and jumped to the last post. I think I'm gonna go back to my corner now, 'cause if Michael wrote this (looks like he did), I don't need to read any more. I'm stunned. Really.

... just.... wow :(

cool little spoilers, which don't reveal much, but tell one a lot.

now I've been thinking on the kid... again. Review says that the child is never clearly stated that it is supes... so it may be a factor of what the audience reads into the past and present relationships etc. If it's left hanging out there with out a confirmed answer, I could live with that. That way one person can claim the kid is supes', another can go in another direction.

Now, thought number 2: The penultimate momment in STM, was when Superman unleashes the super-rage after Lois is killed in the earthquake. This is an important part of the superman character, and it ties in deeply with the humanization of Superman. He can get angry like anyone else (sucks to be a god, with a 'flawed' human psychology).

So my question to you is this: Will, Should, or Might the kid be used as fuel (or cannon fodder) for the super-rage? I mean to kill Lois a second time would be slightly redundant... but killing her child (and potentially supes') would be enough fuel to drive supes to some spectacularly powerful superfeat (on the level of turning the earth back on its axis, but not). Will the kid serve as the means for Superman to bring about the endgame in this installment?
