So ever since yesterday afternoon, my buddy icons for AIM 7.1 have not been appearing anywhere on any of my IMs or buddy list. I have reinstalled AIM, cleared my cache, cookies, browsing history from IE, done computer restarts, and even tried at using AOL Expressions icons and that didn't even work. If by some chance an icon did appear, it appeared 50x50 when it should be 100x100 (they can be that big on this AIM version). This has never happened before, first time it has, & it's pretty damn annoying.

Anyone ever have this problem before or can give me some tips to see if I can fix it? AOHell wouldn't help me, I can see other people's icons just fine, & I'm running with Windows XP.

Did you install this over a previous version?

I had upgraded it from the previous version 6 point whatever the last one was. I checked my other AIM screen name to see if it was having the problem there, & the picture changed fine on the other name.

Try a complete uninstall and reinstall of the software.

Tools>Folder Options>Show hidden files and folders

Delete the following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AIM
C:\Program Files\AIM

Then install the latest version of the software. Post back here with results.

I did everything you did, but I didn't see those two folders after clicking show hidden files & folders so I just uninstalled it by using control panel, reinstalled it, & it's basically the same thing. Right now, one of the pics I'm using comes up normally at 100x100, but if I try changing it to another one, it either doesn't show up (gray box with the man) or it comes out 50x50 or it becomes delayed in showing up.

If I try reinstalling it again, should I check the box where it asks if I want it to remove my s/ns and preferences? If I click that, that won't delete the buddy list I saved will it?

By only doing it though control panel, you're still leaving settings and such. Those folders have to be there for AIM to work [since program files is where the AIM.exe file is]. As for the 'ALL USERS' folder, if it's not in there, check C:\Documents and Settings\WINDOWS-USERNAME\Application Data\AIM [of course, that means if you log onto Windows with SML28, it'd be the SM28 folder]. Buddy lists, as far as I know, are saved on the AIM servers.
