If Alien 5 gets done it seems it either has to support "Aliens" or the two last movies, since those movies work so much against each other. And I definitely hope it will support "Aliens" and make what was built up in that movie develop
the way it was meant to be. Maybe Alien 5 could take place 20 years after "Aliens". Ripley could have been in a coma as an effect of her first 60 years in space, or she could have infiltrered the company to be able to wipe the aliens out. Higginson looks perfect to play an adult Newt. Biehn could return as Hicks, but anyone got suggestions for new actors or maybe a new director if we can´t get Scott or Cameron?

my opinion:

Aliens was by far the best. Loved everything about the movie. But as mentioned, it's more of an action movie, than a thriller/horror movie.

Alien was great as a horror movie. But I can never seem to get through the middle of the movie without falling asleep.

Alien3: I really enjoy this movie. Unlike Alien and Aliens, I seem to be able to watch and enjoy this movie all the way through. I think that a lot of people who harp on the movie do so because most people, like me, wanted to see more Colonial Marines (b/c they were super cool). Regardless, Alien3 really was a great peice of work. I can't say much more than that.

my order of preference would go:

Aliens
Alien3
Alien

....

Alien Resurection (loved the villainous crew of Han Solo's, they were all mint, but the whole idea of cloning ripley because her remains contain alien DNA was stupid, it changed everything. It was an entertaining movie, but I don't know what crack pot came up with the narrative)

instead of Alien Resurection, I would have opted for the Aliens Genocide plot line from the comic books wherein scientists had discovered that the goo in the queens egg sack was a crazy performance enhancer. So a specially outfitted crew of Colonial Marines was sent to the 'alien homeworld' to harvest the purest form of the goo. But when they arrive, they realize that there are now 2 different breeds of alien on the planet, which are about to go to war (insect war) and our poor humans are caught in the middle. Twas a good story, and a great comic at it's time

1st one's the best followed closely by 2 but I haven't seen 3

If you're ever interested in seeing 3, make sure that you see the extended version. The theatrical version is garbage, but the extended cut is much, much, MUCH better.

I watched the theatrical release of Alien last night with commentary by Ridley and the cast. It was ok...

Something Ridley near the end said made my ears perk up lol. It was when Ripley finds the last two crew members dead - you know, the woman who's always screaming and the black guy. He said that the alien had basically impregnated them with more aliens so there'll be more humanoid aliens on the ship now.

And he even hinted that poor ol' Jonesy may be carrying. Well, he said the noise the cat makes when Ripley puts it in the box indicates that that might be the case.

So his idea of the alien is like an asexual insect that can reproduce by itself but needs a host. He actually said something like that.

I was like, 'NO, that isn't how it works, Mr Scott. You need an egg and a facehugger.' A moment later I was like, 'Oh... it's your film - first in the series. So I guess it's up to you.'

I'm not sure how I feel about this. It changes the initial idea of the alien in a way that doesn't sit with the other films. There was nothing to indicate this in the actual film, so no one's to blame that they never followed through with this idea, but I was just stunned about there being more humanoid aliens on the ship before Ripley abandons it.

Anyone else remember this from the commentary? Thoughts?

Anyone...?

I'm not sure it matters. The idea he had was never explored and never became part of the mythology. Bringing it into a future movie would be a huge WTF.

I know he intended to have Dallas become an alien when Ripley finds him cocooned to the wall in the deleted scene. Fortunately he still looked human so we can assume that the alien was just going on its instinct to cocoon victims for impregnation by a facehugger, even though it was alone. I liked that scene, it made Alien's continuity more in line with the rest of the series, even if Ridley intended it to be different from what we know.

I know it doesn't matter, but I just found it slightly surprising of what Ridley had in his mind and which was never followed through on, going against the grain of the latter films. Just makes you think about how some ideas go unspoken and unnoticed and eventually lost under things added later that work to the contrary.

Holy s**t this thread just keeps getting resurrected, doesn't it...lol

The first three =
Resurrection = meh

Aliens is one of the top 5 action films ever made. It basically set the stage for any 1st or 3rd person shooter platform and PC game after that.

The original, well, it kind of isn't all that original to begin with (I seen a couple dated Sci-Fi flicks from the 60's that had the same plot), and to be honest one Alien running around it gets a little boring. But I respect it for breaking ground.

My next favorite would be Resurrection (Michael Wincott, Winona Ryder, and Ron Perlman), followed by Alien 3.

Well it looked clear that he was using Brett, and turning him into an egg. He was half egg. Which many Alien fans believe that still could be part of the mythology. Because with no queen, a male possibly could turn a organism into an egg, so that a Queen could be made. It could always fit into the mythology. Many animals can change sex/do weird things if an "egg" layer is not there.

Ridley seems to contradict himself sometimes. Most seem to say that in the Quadrilogy that Dallas was "alien food" While Brett had been transformed into an egg. Who knows how it works? Could always remain a mystery on how a Queen can come about.

But Ridley did have some "bad" ideas I'm glad never came through. Like the Alien biting off Ripley's head at the end, and then talking just like her. Yea Ridley can get confused sometimes. lol

And also. We need the Alien Quadrilogy on Blu-Ray.

I always wanted to see more of that giant alien corpse from the first alien. I think the xenomorph is played out now. If they do a sequel with Ripley I think they should come up with a new alien to fight. I wouldn't mind seeing a movie with the Space Marines from Aliens as well. Carrie Ann Moss would make a good ripley replacement.

First you don't need a replacement of Ripley. You can create a new character. And Carrie Ann Moss....she's too "Keenu" like, just wooden. Weaver had a vulnerability but strength as well.

But the Space Jockey keeping in the dark, is great, mystery is part of the series. And we have enough "Smart/Technological" alien movies out there. The thing that makes Alien stand out is its nature at its worst, its an animalistic killing machine, that is perfectly designed by nature. That is what Ridley wanted with the Alien series, and for the better or worse has been carried on with the others.

I say a remake would be hard, but if done right could give the series a new kick in the pants which it needs. Alien is about that animal/fear of nature.

In the commentary, Ridley speaks of the spacejockey as a pilot of the ship, delivering biological weapons - the eggs. That's how he saw it, but basically said it was up for interoperation.

I thought that the space jokey was supposed to be benevolent and warning humanity of the aliens. Maybe I'm wrong.

So many people say different things. Just like Harrison and Ridley with Blade Runner hehe. I think it is meant to be open. Who knows maybe the same thing happend to them like it did the crew of the Nostromo. Or they could have created them, or another enemy put them on there. It leaves it open to interpertation. And in the end though it is about the animlistic nature of the aliens. Not so much about the "Space Jokcey" But you put it well, it can be a metaphor to the warning to humanity as a whole trying to use nature for their "weapons" kind of thing.

But to me the Jockey can be looked at in different ways, but by no means the focus of the movie. Just a layer to it.

I always thought the logical progression after Aliens was to keep the Space Marines and explore the origins of "The Company" and the space jockeys

To eaches own. I never thought that, and most my friends I don't think ever thought that. The story is central about the aliens. Maybe where they came from, possibly the "Space Jockey"

But the thing is, Alien/Aliens, is suppose to keep mystery around it, that is half of the vibe that the third and forth lost. You have to keep a sense of imagination, and never really unveil "everything"

I love them all. But Alien/Aliens is my favorite. I count them as one film.

I just saw Aliens again today!

1. Alien
2. Aliens
.
.
3. Alien 3
.
.
.
4. Alien 4...ugh.

I try to block out Alien 3 and 4 from my mind and pretend only Alien and Aliens happened.
I think Alien is the better film, I could also see it took a lot of creativity and hard work for the crew. It was an interesting concept and just really well made, both are some of my favorite movie of all time!

Aliens is my favourite for watching the Aliens.

As for the Jockeys, I've always wanted them to be left alone. One of the few great mysteries left in the Alien franchise.

My heart lept into my throat when Colin Strause mentioned maybe writing them into a next AVP film if he ever got the chance on AVPgalaxy. I'm still downright worried. It's one of the few things we know little about, the last thing I want is a couple brothers taking away one of the last mysteries from us.
