Why so much love for alien 3 here? It was almost a remake of Alien, rather average really.
i don't LOVE Alien 3. i still enjoy it even though i know it definitely has it's flaws...i don't consider it a great film by any means.

the reason i defend it so much is because Bishop 2 keeps saying that Alien 3 had less memorable characters than the ones in AVP.

Alien 3 has gained love in recent years because fans are slowly starting to realise that it treats the creature with respect.

The Hicks and Newt deaths are hard to swallow but it is a very well acted, intense movie that neatly closed the circle for Ripley.

Everything since has been a nail in the coffin for the Alien and this latest low-budget, no-name effort will need a miracle to be any different.

^ I agree.

Also the behind the scenes of it is really interesting. They were very successful in turning out an enjoyable movie that wrapped the story up satisfactory when al lindications made it seem like it was going to be a total disaster.

I don't care about the Alien or the Predator, I just want to see some human action, son!

I think a lot of the reappraisal of Alien 3 came from the fact Fincher was suddenly the director to love for movie fanboys after Seven and Fight Club.

Exactly.

Maybe for some ....

But seeing what has come since Alien 3 just highlights the effort and quality Finchers movie has.

Its far from perfect but it does the creature justice and captures the grim reality of the Alien universe perfectly.

Yeah, I get that impression. But it IS a visually fascinating movie. Much grimmer and dirtier than any Alien film before it or since. It's very much a product of its time, an early '90s "grim and gritty" kind of film, just like Resurrection is very much a product of ITS time - a late '90s "self-aware/tongue in cheek" kind of film.

Where's my hammer? Oh, there it is...

Alright, now which leg should I start with?

I do think that that is a reason that some have come to like this film. At the same time though there are fans such as myself that have always liked it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Alien 4 was a product of it's time and if your going to, then don't use the "tounge in cheek/self aware" logic, use the "it was a product of it's time-ALOT of s**tty movies were being made at that time and Alien 4 was one of them."

The "grim and gritty" look you mention is due to the fact it is set in an abandoned prison and as we have seen in the years since it is a look that Fincher likes to use ..... it has little to do with what year it was made in.

I was watching Alien: Ressurection last night, and it was entertaining.
Not really a good film, but I enjoyed watching it. Then, when it was 15 minutes left, I turned it off, because I hate that Ripley offspring alien.

:down

Btw, did Ron Perlman die at the end? I don't remember him dying, but I forgot.

Hahahahaahahahh you're on your own man I only saw that film once, just like I only saw AvP once, and genuinely trying to forget they exist aswell.
ACTUALLY I LIE! I did watch Alien Resurrection: Special Edition and I have to say the best scene in that was the extended card scene where they show her a picture of a little girl and it look's like she remembers Newt.
Other than that.......lame.

:woot:

P.S That French Dude is up there with Uwe Boll, I don't care if he made Amelie, IN FACT he even stated that he made AR so he could get to make Amelie, if he didn't do AR, then he would still be churning out kack...o wait he still is making kack! Amelie was like a one off and it wasn't even that great.

Oh i certainly agree that it was a solid close to the story and what has been made since has been downhill.

It was a very inudstrial movie, i thought it tried to echo the first but with a lot more grime and some really good cinematography.

Definitely, didn't mean to say everyone, i just think the fact Fincher's latter success played a part in a number of critics and fans upping it's praise in recent times.

Perlman survives.

I think every Alien film has something to recommend it. Resurrection and Alien 3 probably have an equivalent level of blatant flaws and pros for me. I actually like the Newborn - at least it makes a lot more sense than the Newborn that Whedon scripted, the gigantic boney thing with 6 arms that drinks blood. How is THAT a human/alien hybrid?! But the last 15 minutes is still the weakest part of the film for me because it's just SO obvious and SO derivative of the earlier movies that I could damn near cry.

Much like Alien 3, I think the beautiful sets and cinematography are probably one of the major highlights of Resurrection. Performances are mostly good too, despite 1 or 2 of line deliveries that make me absolutely cringe. And yeah, I love the underwater sequence... but I think everybody loves that bit. It's the one thing nobody complains about and everybody seems to laud in that film.

It's just got some stupidities. Why would they choose to use hijacked humans as hosts? What, nobody found out yet that aliens can incubate inside ANYTHING, even a dog? They didn't even wanna try? I think the government would be less likely to notice a cocker spaniel kidnapping operating than a bunch of nickel refinery miners who never freaking show up for work. And the fact that Gediman's speech in the hive is so blatantly overdubbed to make it run faster really bugs me. I hate it when mouths don't match words in a movie - just try to watch Live Free or Die Hard without noticing that half the dialogue doesn't jive with their mouths during the sequence with our heroes at the power plant.

I'm pretty sure he never said that? In fact, he was already prepping to shoot Amelie before he got the call and went off to do Resurrection, so why would he need to do AR first if he was already getting ready to make Amelie anyway? The City of Lost Children was great too.

It's on the commentary and in some of the extras

I'm throwing this down right now: AVP2 will not come out at Christmas. I think the lack of marketing is the first sign of the film getting delayed to next year.

that would suck .... ass

Would probably be a smart move for the film though - counterprogramming on Christmas Day has never proven successful to date, so the current release date seems pretty dumb. And a lot of studios are trying to ensure they have a backlog of product ready in case the impending strike really delays new productions for a while.

That wouldn't actually bother me. A movie that is delayed won't be rushed.
