heck your change.

This year, U.S. quarter collectors will not only be on the hunt for 2007’s state editions, but also the Silver Surfer quarter as well.

Seriously.

If it all comes off without a hitch, it’s one of the better movie promotions for a comic book film in a long time: Fox and The Franklin Mint have teamed to create a limited “Silver Surfer U.S. Quarter” (mocked up version art seen here), which will still maintain its 25 cent value as legal tender.

According to the plan for the promotion, a fleet of silver armored trucks have been loaded with the coins, will leave from the Twentieth Century Fox lot to deliver quarters across the United States, and on May 22nd, 40,000 Silver Surfer quarters will be put into circulation across the country.

From the official rules:

Those who find the Silver Surfer coin can go to the movie website (http://www.riseofthesilversurfer.com/) and register to win a Four-day trip for Four to the World Premiere of Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer in London. The grand prize winner will be announced on June 1st.

The first Four people to go online to report Silver Surfer coin findings will receive a special private screening of Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer for their friends and family in their hometown the night before the film’s nationwide release (June 14th).

Every person who finds a Silver Surfer coin will be eligible to visit the movie’s website on a daily basis to flip the virtual coin for a chance to win Fantastic instant prizes.

Read about this in U.S.A Today Even if you dont win the contest ,the coin will still be a cool collectors item.

it's the same damned image of the Surfer. :whatever: i am so frickin' sick of that image.

hahaha I want one of those coins, It would be like finding a golden ticket in a wonka bar!

This sounds like an expensive promotion... I hope this doesn't backfire, the film will suffer if it doesn't reach boxoffice heights that FOX is hoping for...why should the franchise pay the consequences for such expensive advertising campaign that probably costs about half the movies production budget.

wtf that is crazy! but still cool

It's my understanding that a movie's production budget and advertising budget are separate. I'm not worried at all about Fox's advertising campaign. They're simply the best in the business at hyping and advertising a movie. They get free runs on Fox and Fox affiliates such as Fox News and FX. Between product placement and tie ins, I'm not worried about Fox accounting.

Sony getting Burger King to pay THEM to run what is basically constant SM3 commercials is amazing. Fox is always swinging similar deals. Just look at the Dodge Fantasicar.

As for this coin, I want all my pocket change to look like that.

"a fleet of silver armored trucks have been loaded with the coins, will leave from the Twentieth Century Fox lot to deliver quarters across the United States" Deliver to where? Random banks? Me wants!

^^ Yeah what is up with the secrecy?

They expect me to know where these trucks are going to be, do they think I would lay in wait with devious thoughts in my head.

Do they think that I would want this coinage so badly I might descend into the depths of evil to attain what I want.

That my thoughts are less than pure?

That I am somehow not the paragon of virtue I aspire to be .......... ummmm

Hmmm well maybe I do see the need for some secrecy.

Cool promotion:up: Wonder if they'll do this outside the States as well?

You know people will sell these little *****es on eBay for a billion frikking bucks.

It was cool 'cause I quit coming here when I saw the first atrocious images of the "new, improved Thing :o".....so I'd heard nothing about this.

Then I'm gettin' smokes and a string cheese yesterday at the market across from my house and the dude goes "Ya might like this." and hands me a Silver Surfer quarter.
Nice surprise.

So far, there are four on auction:
http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...d=m37&satitle=silver+surfer+quarter&category0=

It will be interesting to see what kind of prices they bring.
The first one offered has a blurry photograph, but is still up to $24.50 with 4 bids and 2 days remaining.
Things like these are always overpriced at first as because of the hype (FF, SS comics on ebay are going for more than they were a year ago). But months from now you'll get it for half the price if not less.

I made the mistake of buying a couple X-men movie related items only to see the price plummit later.:o

That seller seems to have his head in the clouds.

Found this on Brazilian site revistapublicidad. Fox and General Motors are teaming up to promote Chevrolet and FF2.

Here's the commercial that's airing on Brazilian tv. I like how they use footage from the teaser in this.

More details...

Cool commerial. I love that new Sue pic there using.

It bugs me that they're using the same group pic from the first film with "modifications". :down

There are a lot of these popping up for sell. The Surfer image is just a glued on pic, not a minted coin. IMO its pretty lame that the distribution put them on the west coast, really makes the contest unobtainable to most.

This commercial is really been aired a lot of times on the television here on Brazil, and my friends loved it!
