Its a movie based off a 1980's cartoon
How anyone can complain is beyond comprehension.
it's not beyond comprehension, it's just overblown
I've been a partial defender of this and most of bays other works long enough to learn a few things over the years
it's not beyond comprehension
people just don't like what they don't like and that's fair, other people do
it's these boards and talk backs they allow for people step on other peoples tastes and watching it happen every summer I've begun to find it kinda stupid
Imagine if you liked a girl for what ever reason, she's pretty she's smart or or whatever
how dumb would it be if some dudes started telling you why she's not worth your time and that you probably don't really like her
movies are the definition of escapism and at the end of the day, that's the one thing you yourself can latch onto or not
as far as fans crying bloody murder over their material being "rapped"
I'm sure if the film came out when they were actually 8 and truly into the material they would be just as belligerent towards the spectacle.
that's the second problem with material that has fans grow up, they begin to despise it's simple nature, TF has always been ridiculous, (watch that original movie) there's no denying it, I'm sure it could be made serious and dark but the fact that it's not doesn't mean one all of the sudden has the right to call it on the fact.
I love how bay the kind of excessive cinema is finally doing a genre film that has the potential to be way more over the top then anything in comics or dino movies or buddy cop films
and he's still being called out on his glorifying camera placement..
Then there's the "objective" fans that point out it's flaws "objectively"
the action is to "tight and messy," all the characters look the same and i can't see anything or tell any of them apart. I always ask them what they thought of Saving Private Ryan and other war film Ilk, which is even more chaotic and full of chracters in the same clothes blending into the backgound...I forget their answers
I check the RT reviews for these films and none of them make any mention of character tracking or shaky cam...but 50% have it about transformers
i guess it just served the stories
The robots don't look right...that's because in real life when cars open up they don't grew legs out of thin air, ironically enough it's call realism and realistic cgi = a good reel for ILM
some ppl say the jokes aren't funny, beyond how arrogant it is to claim what tickles ppl or not, my theater and many others were filled with laughter..
some ppl say Dane Cook isn't funny, yet his hbo stadium's seem to be filled with laughter(must be the editing)
I'm going to wrap this up before i get dragged into another TF thread "talk"
I will say this, the hate goes deeper then the objective judgment of this film alone
personally I think the man shoots his films with a sense of scope and power the the general audience subconsciously appreciates, thank goodness he's not wasting his 75mm on buddy cop movies anymore
he imposes his photography skills to the cgi and it yields powerhouse results
-that scene in "DARK B" avatar, any other director (especially Singer) would have the characters colours still on there and it would look like the typical fake usual stuff you see everywhere, in bays world the light hits the cgi as hard as it hits his sun kissed actors.
one day superman will have the sun light hit him as hard as that and I will finally be satisfied.
could the story and character work be better, sure, but does the 9 year old roll his eyes when BB talks though the radio or Optimus says "MY Bad"
no he actually appreciates that he can define what these characters are about...
I wonder how the 9 year old boy feels when Harvey dent starts about about the symantec's of his job or the extradition act of east Asia...
I'd love to see some of these grown men watch Saturday morning cartoons and roll their eyes
it would be kinda stupid.
peace
I'm so happy for batman and Nolan (it was a solid film), but at some point we're going to have to start being honest about why that movie hit a billion.
