BvS All Things Batman v Superman: An Open Discussion - - - - Part 111

every good director has a dud or two, I can't fault him for making the superman movie he wanted to make.

Singer is competent, but I think Matthew Vaughn is superior.

I'm not going to discuss Singer, I mentioned him as an example. Nothing more and nothing less.

Different strengths. Admittedly, as much as I like Singer's X-men's, I was looking forward to Vaughn taking it in a new direction and feel.

Anyway…..BvS.

I wonder what a Vaughn-drected Supes and BvS would be like.

X2 and DOFP >>>>>> First Class. All great movies but I give Singer the edge.

I like Vaughn and was looking forward to his DOFP, but Singer coming back to direct X-Men was always my first choice.

But to take it back to the topic at hand, this will be Snyder's magnum opus, people will have no choice but to respect him after BvS.

Why wouldn't they respect him yet? Honestly, after 300 and Watchmen, you pretty much got all of what he's about (and to be fair, the Owl Movie as well)….so you either like it (and/or parts of it) or don't.

Yes lets get back to talking about how nobody should ever say anything complimentary about the director who is directing the ****ing movie we are discussing.

ISS's hypothetical comparison is going to turn into a twenty page discussion about Singer, isn't it?

Because they don't.

Its been well documented ever since he was given the keys to the car.

X2 is Singer's. First Class and DOFP are Vaughn's babies. Notice how they both tied X-Men to American history? Only reason Singer directed it was because Vaughn also came up with Kingsmen and chose to do that.

Singer didn't get story credit for DOFP. Vaughn did. He's a way better director and writer.

Actually….wayyyy back when SR came out, I remember reading some suggestions about Snyder, and how some basically gagged at the idea. I felt that Supes could use some of that stylistic shot in the arm, SOMETHING to shake the cobwebs off. I think it really came down to (and still does) what sort of script is he working with. That's why I see him as more of a stylist than auteur.

And frankly I feel the same about Ridley Scott, who we all know has made some real piles of you-know-what. But man, do they all look great…and if happens to pick a good story….

So I guess I kind of liken Snyder to Scott, but obviously more comic/fantasy flavored.

well then its a damn shame he left. But he's happy with his secret agent movie or whatever, so good for him.

Trapped in time had a good JL lineup

Superman
Batman
Robin
Wonder Woman
The Flash
Aquaman
Cyborg

I really want to see Carrie Robin in this universe because with her, we have the best chance at getting a classic Robin costume in live action

Robin has my favorite costume in all of comics

And if that's the case, then they still won't. It's not like the subject of Batman or Superman somehow overrules that. Even less so if it happens to suck.

So that Singer guy... he really sucks doesn't he? :o

And this is where I believe the particular problem lies. Snyder made his name by working on a comic book movies. Out of every genre, the kind that includes most difficult and hard to please fanbase there is. If you think about it, Snyder actually brought it upon himself. :woot:

I love Snyder. He has strengths and weaknesses just like everybody else. Sucker Punch is his only misstep imo.

Live by the (plastic) sword, die by it, right? :woot:

I think it's also one of the reasons why the owl movie is rather refreshing, in not being so mainstream-comic oriented.

Indeed. :woot:

I just want this movie to kick absolute ass

Something so good that all fans say "Wow, all jokes aside, DC really stepped it up with this movie."

Is that really too much to ask for? It seems like WB is pulling out all the stops to make this movie the best it can be.

I want it to be a good movie for the sake of being a good movie, and feeling that I got my ticket money's worth (which is a lot these days). I'm not really a comic fan or reader, or have any extra motives or what not in mind. A good movie will be more than enough.
