Any thoughts on Affleck leaving the DCEU?

I know he's an older actor but I'd hope for at least two solos with Bat-family presence. And a third passing of the torch style movie with one of the Robins taking the mantle. That and cameos plus JL appearances.

If he wants to leave, let him leave - contract or not. The last thing we need is someone playing this role without their heart in it 100%.

Besides, if recasting the role means more Batman in the DCEU, that's fine with me.

I'm not particularly attached to Bens Batman. The coolest thing is that we finally got a comics accurate suit.

I think there are plenty of suitable replacements

Gonna be hard to top that chin though. :(

I wonder if Jake G would even do it.

Agreed. I've seen a lot of films where actors weren't interested in being in the film, and it rarely works out well. Forcing him to do it would very likely result in a flat, lifeless performance.

Yeah better they recast than have another Jennifer Lawrence situation where she just sleepwalks through two movies.

Personally I didn't have a problem with Lawrence till Apocalypse. I thought her best performance was in DOFP.

And to be honest even though he wasn't in the movie a whole ton, Affleck looked pretty bored in Suicide Squad.

If these rumors about Ben are right, does this mean JL is crap and he is embarrassed? If it was good and he was proud of it, we wouldn't be hearing these rumors.

I hope the rumors are baseless for the sake of continuity. Affleck was decent as Bats, and I'd rather not risk such an important role being the victim of a poor recasting. The machine is up and running, flaws and all, so replacing major components to the machine makes me nervous.

If a machine isn't running smoothly then you usually take the parts that aren't working and replace them. That's good maintenance.

Diamonds are Forever speaks volumes to paying an actor who clearly doesn't want to be there.

Or Natalie Portman sleepwalking her way through Thor: The Dark World.

Affleck isn't one of those parts. I was as anti-Batfleck as anyone prior to BvS, but he was passable. He won't ever rival Bale, but he didn't detract from the character, even as Bruce. It's true that there might be an upgrade for the character out there, but the risk of diminishing such an important role is too great since he's essentially the Nick Fury of the DCEU.

His Batman was a dumbass

He wasn't perfect, but things can always be much, much worse. He could have adopted a kid without knowing it, needed a reminder to not appear in public as Bruce in his Batman mask, or flopped around on the floor like a singing fish. We should count our blessings.

It's almost like one might be an affectionate parody and comedy.

Not yet. I liked him a lot in BvS, but all these behind-the-scenes rumblings have me concerned for his future performances in the role. It's not uncommon for the actor to grow tired of their famed part. Daniel Craig and Matt Damon can attest to this.

And the former is like a logical extension of the character's essence in an Elseworlds-like scenario. That's much less of a leap and failure than the other.

Yeah, when one is meant to be an extension of a character and his thought process is "That alien can kill the earth....lol imma punch it" it really goes to show how poorly written these movies are. :csad:

That's the extent of the parody within The Lego Movie?
Not the best of jokes, but doesn't seem that poorly written.

No, Batfleck's logic. I was poking fun at LV for calling a children's parody / love letter a stupid version of the character, while Buttfleck being an "extension of the character is in line with the comics version." Lego Batman's universe is much better than anything in the DCEU.
