All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - Part 11

It's interesting to me, doesn't mean it will be to you, or everyone. :cwink: It's just nice to hear someone else other than Snyder, the cast or Nolan talk about the movie. I also like that he said ´´spectacle, fun and action`` need to be a part of the movie.

On another note, Nolan recently said that MOS is going to be remarkable, but of course I wouldn't expect him to say that it will suck. :woot:

No I was actually trying to confirm/agree why you said it was interesting. I thought maybe his comments had a twist or something that I didn't catch....:)

I think it's interesting that Roven said that people would be surprised by how they approached Superman in the "announcement" trailer. They obviously wanted to emphasise Clark as a person first and foremost, and that's why we got so little action footage. They deliberately went against expectations. Even with the Superman Returns teaser the emphasis was on Superman, on his superpowers and the mythical and sci-fi elements. Here obviously the focus was on realism, on Clark and him doing more mundane things.

In watching the new trailers I had a question come to my mind...

Do you think he is in Alaska or wherever to hide his powers? Since some parts of the far north have the months and months of darkness, would that decrease or eliminate his powers? Could that be why he's actually hitching a ride in the trailer, because walking shouldn't tire Clark if he has his powers.
The only other reason I could think of for him to hitch a ride is he's in total denial of his powers, and is trying to hide them.

I am not sure if it would diminish his powers being in Alaska, though if it was dark for months I guess it could. It seemed more that we see Clark here just trying to fit in with everybody else, just trying to be "normal". I don't know what point this all comes in, in terms of Zod and everything, but maybe something happens where he does want to just be "human". It's obviously a lot of soul-searching at this point and maybe stuff related to the Fortress of Solitude, if it is included.

I hope we do get to see the Fortress of Solitude, but if Clark is traveling north without accepting his powers only to "construct" the FoS where he learns to accept his Kryptonian past and his powers, then I'm afraid that would harken back to the Donner origin a little too much.

However, I think they'll have something different up their sleeve with MoS.

True, but in Donner's version Clark just went straight to the Arctic without any major struggle and accepted his "destiny" in the FOS. Here Clark may construct the Fortress after he has accepted his powers, after he becomes Superman.

They may even leave the Fortress to the end or something like that, after he has dealt with everything.

Personally, I'd like the movie to get as far away as Donner's vision as possible. Not because I think is bad, not at all, I just want to see something different related to Superman. I feel like the character has been stuck all these years. After all the superhero movies we had, I think the character deserves a new, fresh take.

I bet anyone that this is the last shot of the film

You know why i know, because is flying straight up breaking the sound barrier. It's not like he is flying to space to save somebody or go to another planet. The shot is well done. I don't see anything that could be in the movie where Superman well bolt to space like that if it wasn't the last shot.

I'll speculate that during the bus scene when Clark uses his powers something goes wrong (which could explain why that woman was so cross when she was talking about him), and he leaves Smallville because he feels cast out, therefore refuses to use his powers to travel to Alaska to end up working on a fishing boat, where he, in turn, has to use his powers again during a storm on the water.

All this before he accepts his powers and what he can be potentially of course.

I thought the bus thing was when he was like 13?

Yeah, they will show the last scene of the film in a teaser trailer, sure. :woot:

Actually, Nolan did something like that with TDK. The last shot of the movie was in the first trailer. I think the last shot of ASM was in one of the TV spots, too.

I think a good angle to go with this is that he has forsaken his powers. He finds his powers more of a curse than a gift. Which might explains what Pa Kent said.

In DIRECTOR's defense, they can and they did show final shots in several trailers.

Yeah, I suppose he was younger in that scene. Maybe he'll leave at a young age and enter adulthood in his travels.

Which reminds me, does anyone know if the Birthright inspired Africa portion of the story is still speculated to happen in MoS?

Pretty sure it's been replaced by the Alaska stuff. Would've preferred Africa, myself.

I think that shot might be for the trailers only. To show off the flight-FX and the shaky "news-reporter" action style.
