All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - Part 11

If i'm not mistaken, thats from the oilrig scene. I remember seeing other pics that went along with it that showed the crew workers running to the helicopter while cavill was pointing the way.
This shot in particular is when a crane starts to fall, and clark holds it up ( I think)

Yeah, here is the accompanying video. This is one of the set videos of that particular scene. The beginning of the video includes stills but then the video starts. There is another video that has more footage, but it has a little bit of cursing.

You're right, it is.

I think the rumours about girders being turned into throwing stars is bogus, and no doubt influenced by the picture you quote against. If you think about how that would relate to a story about Superman fighting Zod, it doesn't make sense. They are both men of steel, so steel throwing stars wouldn't do damage either of them.

From what I saw of the SDCC footage, the scene from this picture relates to the shot of Clark having his clothes burned off him, as he has a beard in both.

The fight in the city is no doubt part of a sequence called 'The Destruction of Metropolis" that I was told about last year.....at least in name if not in too much detail. The only detail I know about is of 'super' people being punched through buildings, and how difficult it has been to create digitally.

If Superman throwing steels stars doesn't hurt Zod what would? What's the point of a fistfight if they can't be injured?

100% agree.

It's almost like Marvel is the pop-corn candy floss comic book movie, and DC is becoming the brooding, thought-provoking stuff.

I could also be talking out of my ample posterior, but what'ev. I am just glad to be alive in this era of comic book film making.

Now if they can sort out a Cavill/Bale JLA/Word's Finest type movie, I may just clap my hands and be done with this life, as it will be complete.

Personally, i've always felt that was the difference between Marvel and DC in the first place.

Green Lantern tried to be a Marvelised DC movie, and that was a disaster.

The brooding thought-provoking intelligent stuff was really all Christopher Nolan's doing.

Without him, I think JL and the future projects are headed to 'popcorn candy floss' territory.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday.

Granted DC only has Batman at the moment but I have hope for MOS in being a relevant and thought provoking film.

I don't want all DC comics movies to be brooding thought provoking...they should be fun.

The oiling scene was just a guess, but an oil-rig is a type of building (similar construction) and the fact that there were girders lying around could easily be consrued as it being a building (we don't know how the [clean cut] girders got there). Furthermore, oil-rig cranes are not made with girders that large.
You sure about that??

I think its the whole support tower he holds up, not just the crane...

Also, notice the green screen in front of cavill in the pic we're discussing? my guess is they gave him something physical to put his hands on, and the rest of the tower/crane/whatever will be CG.
again, i'm just guessing here.

Exactly my thoughts! The comic book world is full of all sorts of stories dark, light, intelligent, popcorn fun. If the all the DC movies aspire to be like Nolan's Batman films I might just loose interest. They are great movies but I love the style of say The Avengers so much more.

We are on the same page. If WB wants all their DC properties to be in Nolan's style I'm done. The Avengers was oddly WAY more entertaining to me than Nolan's "adult thought provoking" ********. I like Nolan's movies but all DC properties should not be done in Nolan's style.

I know TDKR is going to be excellent, but I suspect some of the younger set will fall asleep during the non-Batman/Catwoman/Bane fight scenes.

Well, I think it's a first that a Comic Con poster actually becomes the first official teaser poster for MOS. Today, our theater received three copies of the teaser poster. It's the exact same poster at Comic Con, except instead of the "Comic Con 2012" legend it just says "2013."

No mention of 3D or IMAX, but it's only a matter of time before WB officially confirms it.

Curious; but assuming if MOS was a successful enough to warrant a trilogy, where Snyder followed Nolan's steps in concluding Superman's story with the third film, how would you guys prefer for Superman's story to end on film? Would you guys just establish that Superman will continue fighting on the good fight at the end of the third film? I've read on how some wouldn't mind having a Legion of Superheroes cameo at the end where we see the world in the 31st century and how it looks then due to the impact of Superman's actions. What do you guys think?

Well there are other directors that are more than capable of "brooding thought-provoking intelligent stuff" other than Christopher Nolan, ya know. :oldrazz:

I wouldn't want a definite and final end to the series, so that the franchise can continue "Bond style" without a hard reboot necessary, so I think the LOSH idea would be very cool.

That would be AWESOME to see a Legion cameo at the end and in the future. I'd love to see the future that Superman made. I just hope they don't go with "The Death of Superman" or "All-Star Superman" type story when Superman dies or is dying. I mean those stories are great in my eyes but Superman is well, Superman. If you get what I mean.

Isn't that what Mark Millar wanted to do with Superman? He would basically outlive the human race or something like that. All I know is that the conclusion to his story would have put Supes in the future.

Given the amount of money WB has invested in attempted Superman films over the years, and how they seem to have no qualms about culling from their accumulation of materials from those stalled efforts, I wouldn't be really shocked to see a sequel to Man of Steel make use of Doomsday and the Death of Superman. In the context of a trilogy and having a darker middle chapter,MIT would make sense. Have the world having gotten used to Superman just in time for him to lay down his life against a monstrous alien threat, and leave off with a cliffhanger. Maybe.

However it goes, I hope they wouldn't kill Superman at the end of the trilogy, assuming there is one.

Yeah; I don't think that Warner Bros. would ever kill someone like Superman at the end of his franchise.lol

Honestly, I hope that it concludes on a high note in the third film if this ends up becoming a trilogy because as it stands now, I'm kind of against the idea of this going on and on because like others have said..there's only so far the stakes can be raised without everything becoming a repetition of itself, and best to end on a high note than in the way that CR's series did or even the old batman franchise where Warner Bros. was more interested in making as many batman films as they could without thinking about story or the quality of their films, etc.

Something akin to All Star Superman would be a great way to end it all.

It was a powerful ending.

I don't care for the Legion and all that crap. Too comicbook-y for the MoS approach.

Yeah in Mark Millars idea Superman would be the last surviving being on earth as our yellow sun turns into a red son and he loses his powers while it goes supernova.

Way too dramatic for my tastes.

That's funny. I was talking to Jamie about that today or yesterday, whether or not they would put that same poster in theaters with Coming Soon at the bottom.

Superman doesn't die in All-Star though. A lot of stuff takes place after.

Nothing I think they'd explore though.

That is the thing, Nolan's Batman is all those things. That is why it is so good. It is intelligent and fun. It is moody, while still being fun and witty.

We can only hope for MoS and other DC properties to be that good.

I don't even wanna think of an ending before it's even started...
