Are you guys having fun trying to prove that Superman originated next to nothing? If he isn't the first at anything, what good is the character exactly? All it means is he's the one that happened to catch on or have staying power.

It never really was, technically since, you know, there were superheroes long before he existed.

He's the most iconic and most recognizable, but he was never the first.

Although there are characters before Superman who are very similar to superheroes-The Phantom, Zorro, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Doc Savage, The Shadow, The Spider, Tarzan, etc, Superman is indeed the first superhero. Superheroes are a comic book creation, and Superman was the first comic book superhero. The closest of any characters to Superman from comics before Action Comics #1 is probably Dr. Occult, also created by Siegel and Shuster and created after they created Superman. But all of them are Superman's ancestors and he wouldn't have been created without them. It's not dissimilar to how "race records" from as early as the 20's had the phrase "rock and roll" or "rockin' and rollin'" on them, even though Rock and Roll itself wasn't realized until around 1951.

That is EXACTLY the kind of question I want moviemakers to ask themselves. Not the average fan's usual 'It's good because it's good because he's the first one' rationale. Go and look for what's really good in Superman beyond his status. Make him good for what he is as a character not an already stablished icon which status should be taken for granted. Explore him from the grounds, like if nobody had ever done it before.

Win. No one ever made a great movie by resting on the laurels of a property. Every time out, you have to prove that what you're doing is worthwhile. No free passes.

Based off of Michael Shannon's latest interview, Yes, they have to be. He uses his wording in past tense, such as "Its the first time i acted on a different Planet". So my guess is they are/did shot krypton scenes, and Shannon also talks about the massive sets they built and are building. Looks to be all in door for a while, hope they get to shooting in that Alaskin fishing Villiage soon.

Someone on the fan-page for MOS on facebook, says something "big" is gonna happen the following week we are entering in... Most likely the first official teaser poster (which means that a teaser trailer should follow shortly - or so that's how it usually is, right?) Don't know the guy, and don't know how credible he is, at all. But why is he saying that? Where did he get this hunch from? I'm just thinking out loud!

Went and looked. He said it was a hunch AKA pulling "facts" out of his butt and hoping a sprinkle of fairy dust will make them come true.

Jamie and myself have been talking about this subject a lot lately. He first brought the subject up, but we're wondering if it is somehow moving again. Seems like a long time to be in post. Just speculation.

I can't imagine it moving back to December 2012. 2013 is ideal for Superman, I think, but it is a long time so who knows.

December of 2012 is already pretty packed its best it stays in 2013 so it has the chance to succeed. This will allow PLENTY of time for post production which would've helped GL.

1. november could be a good date
2. they will not work on the movie until summer 2013. when the movie will be finished they will stop and then realese it. the studio will not pay every CGI artist for another 6 months for tweaking shots. thats not how this works. when the movie will be finished...........AND IT WILL BE BEFORE 2013 IMO they will stop. i dont think Paramound worked on Star trek until april 2009. remember ST was moved from december to summer.

GL's main problem was their aproach to the effects. 100% greenscreen ,a cgi suit and Sonyimageworks. 6 months more time wouldnt change this.

in my honest opinion the only way MOS would be rushed is if it was reaelesed in summer 2012. everything after october is enough time .

I disagree considering how they were working on GL up until the last minute of release. And it shows when the CG is pretty shoddy in some areas and there's pretty strong evidence that sequences were cut out considering the terrible editing etc.

A Superman movie in this era is definitely gonna have a bunch of CGI, even more so since there are motion capture suits in this movie. I wouldn't mind waiting another year so they can get it right cause if everything looks fake than that's just underwhelming.
