I'm trying to cut back on reading reviews for most films because the reviews do sometimes rattle around in your head while you are watching a film. At the end of the day I decide what I do and do not like.

I think I've grown up a bit because I care less whether or not someone agrees with me on a film. Before I used to say that but not really mean it. Now I 75% mean it. I mean some of you guys didn't like Iron Man 3 and I don't mind all that much. I don't care that Pain and Gain got a C+ cinema score and that more critics disliked it than liked it, I liked it and really that is all that matters to me.

I'm not quite where I want to be but I am working on being a more understanding person in real life and on the intertubes. I'm not a fool, I know that I have a temper and I can tell you guys that it's not an act, I'm that way in real life and I know it's not great. I will still passionately argue my point but I want to be smarter about it.

So Iron Man 3 haters it's going to be fun disagreeing with you but I'll have even more fun agreeing with you if Man of Steel is as awesome as it looks. :woot:

Gotta love early word delusions. I remember some early twitter reactionaries of TDKR calling it "Nolan's Best!!!", and "On par with the Godfather part 2!!!!".

Isn't the point of Twitter hyperbole?

I just sifted through 10 pages to be sure, so nabbed! Thank you Man_Of_Tomorrow, very nice work, sir.

Or not... Is there some sort of post count I have to hit to have this work properly?

EDIT: Nevermind

If it comes down to actually listening to reviewers, I've taken the practice of finding one who is as close to your mindset about films and just stick with him rather than just looking at RT scores or metacritic, for me it's Drew McWeeny from HitFix (the former moriarty from AICN) he tends to lean more towards the positive most of the time, but then again so do i.

Honestly the older i get the less i find myself agreeing with reviewers and even fellow fans, especially for comic book movies. There seems to be divide after divide in terms of what people consider a good comic book movie, and considering I thought Avengers was a great little film but certainly not up to the level of...say something like Spider-man 2, it's clear that I can't be as reliant on the opinions of critics and fans as much as I could be when i was younger, when things felt a lot less divisive and vocal.

Also it just seems people are either to forgiving of certain things and way too nitpicky about others...overall it's a weirdly cynical place that comic book film fans tend to be in, and I'm glad to say that I find some form of enjoyment in pretty much every single comic book films...even the bad ones.

Is it wrong to take your Superman MOS figure (movie masters, btw) to work as your good luck charm (hidden, btw) ?
Not at all. I had my MM TDK/TDKR figures on my desk during my summer internship last year.

Funny thing is I don't even hate GL like the audience did. I didn't like it either. I'd watch it over stuff like Iron Man 2, The Amazing Spider-Man and Superman Returns.

The early word was also good sometimes even great for Superman Returns and the reviews were good as well and yet I didn't like it. So yes early word can be b.s sometimes but you can begrudge and girl for being optimistic about a film, can you?
I know what you mean. It's hard to explain but sometimes you can just tell a film is gonna be a hit or not. They have that certain feel about them.
I didnt have that feeling for GL, nor did I with SR. Little things nawed at me, but I put my blinders on and carried the flag anyway.
Not so with MoS. I've ben watching very carefully for a sign, any sign, that would make have doubts about it. I have had none. the marketing concerned my somewhat at first, but thats over and done with.

I can honestly say, that for me, MoS has that blockbuster feel.

wasnt there also rumors of GL being terrible, Blake's agent saying something bad about the film.

Yeah GL wasn't getting the praise MOS has been getting either and people working on the film were very quiet. Especially Geoff Johns he wasn't really saying how good the film was or anything.

Just got back from IM3 and they showed literally every trailer for every summer movie BUT Man Of Steel. I was very surprised. I mean it felt like the trailers were never ending and yet no room for the one I hoped to see most.

Oh well. For the record, I was greatly disappointed with IM3.

Flashback!

And both are also quick to say that should the forthcoming Green Lantern flop (and it’s been a troubled production), it won’t hurt Lively much. Says the manager, “Whatever the mistakes were with Green Lantern, she needs to not react to them and do an indie movie just because a big superhero movie didn’t work. It’s always about the role and the director. The hotter the person, the easier it is, and she’s very hot right now.” The agent adds, “Even though Green Lantern is supposed to be terrible, it doesn’t mean it’s not going to do extremely well and enhance her foreign value. Clash of the Titans was horrendous, but it didn’t slow down Sam Worthington any.”

Sam Worthington's still hanging in there ey?

I was disappointed as well. I still thought it was an enjoyable film though.

You mean financially? It would have likely fared better without the national tragedy and with 3D, i seriously doubt it being released a whole 2 and a half months after the Avengers affected it one way or the other. You don't watch the Avengers and go "well that's it...nothing can beat that film I'll just not go to the cinema for the next 4 months" :funny:

If TDKR had been the only Superhero film out that year the antip would have been even higher. Everyone and their mother gushing over Avengers and Marvel all summer probably stole some of batman's thunder.

Better example, how much more hype, buzz, fan fare, success would ASM have had if it didn't come out the same year as two of the biggest films in said genre?

Moreover, If Green Lantern had been the first superhero film anyone had seen in 30 years, I'm sure the response may have been "better." Now imagine Green Lantern opening the same summer as the biggest most immediately celebrated comic book movie ever. The looming rain cloud effect is palpable. Like I said if TDKR had time to work it's mojo before the show stopper had arrived, things may have gone differently.

Less films to talk about, means more people talking about each film, more people talking about a film(in a positive light) means more people spreading the word and the hype follows suit translating into a bigger opening.
I agree that people don't turn and avoid films cause they like another(unless they are fan boys). But I think being called the movie of the summer probably helps your buzz and that's easier to achieve if you come out before..."The movie of the summer".

This concept is alot easier to see in the game market.

Well Said:o

My review of IM3 is up on YouTube. Won't post link because there's cursing in the video, but my channel is TheMavonduriTrilogy.

Check it out? :woot:

Saw this on the Box Office forums.

First official tracking number for "Man of Steel". Tracking is starting off strong with >85% "Aware and Planning on watching" among all demos except women 20-35 where it is 83%

I'll be kind of pissed if they don't show MOS with IM3.

It made a billion even with the dark shadow of a national tragedy and the lack of a 3D boost, i'm not sure what else they could have done, it was easily the most anticipated film of the year. I don't really think of and i don't think anyone would like to assume how much it would have made without the shooting and if it was converted to 3d, but I'm pretty sure whatever it earned at the BO, Avengers had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Guess we'll never truly know now.

I think it's dumb that the MOS trailer wasn't with mine or many others screening of Iron Man 3.

I'm not trying to start a another boring marketing discussion but I think there is still sloppy marketing going on. Lucky for them the movie looks great.

I have a really good feeling about the movie.

I've not seen the trailer with any of the big movies here in the UK, including Oblivion and IM3. But then again, I don't think they start putting out the big hitter trailers until a couple of weeks before a films release date over here.

Many people were proud of the idea that MoS would play in front of Iron Man 3 and from that, reign in tons of exposure....

alas.
It seems MoS isn't attached to that many prints of Im3.
I've yet to see a Man of Steel trailer in the theater(and I watch a lot of movies). My bad luck.

OMG THIS IS BAD ASS

If only the poster dept at WB were pushing out things like this.

No we won't. But I would still assume that MoS will have to compete with the "quality" of IM3 in the minds of the audience where as IM3 really doesn't have to deal with such things in the same way.
If IM3 sucks, that's will factor in, if it's a great 1.3 bill hit and outgrosses all dc films that have come before...

I'm in canada so things were different here, but when 9/11 hit, everything stopped, when Sandy hook hit, not so much. Colorado was more like the latter for us up here. Something that got people talking about stuff, the new batman film included.
The more these things happen the more desensitized we seem to be.

Aye, btw make sure that if you see Damon Lindelof coming toward you, shut the door quickly! :cwink: Don't let him near Superman.:cwink:

Seems to me that lately Lindelof is getting the blunt end of stick for Star Trek ID in the similar way as how he messed up a promising Prometheus script by Jon Spaihts. What kind of mess World War Z in? :woot:
