All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - - Part 68

I saw things that bugged me in the trailers too. However, I thought the movie would've won me over on those things much like how the Joker facepaint did. Heck, I remember saying to myself that in the worst case scenario, it will be a great stand-alone film even f it's not a good sequel or Batman film. It really shocked me that it was made by Christopher Nolan.

But that's a different topic for a different thread.
Hopefully Interstellar is a return to form. From the leaked early draft screenplay, things are looking very good indeed, at least on paper. At least it ought to be better than Rises, I hope.

I don't care about The Mandarin though. I thought the twist was awesome actually.

It would have been awesome if it was actually executed well, which it was not. Instead of a character twist, it was a cheap gag. :o

But i liked IM 3 anywho. :cwink:

Eh, I thought the twist in Rises was executed in a much poorer fashion.

God is Batman Begins overrated to me. A dreadful 3rd act that only a few seem to bring up.

I feel the same. I still enjoyed the movie and it's much better than Iron Man 2, but it did come off as really cheap. I have no certain attachment to The Mandarin, but this is who Iron Man is generally associated with as his top villain. I can understand the gripes about how they ruined it, even though he isn't a favorite of mine.

Exactly of Batman Begins? Really?

Ras Al Ghul was still Ras Al Ghul at the end though. Not an actor, and not a cheeky punchline to be smote by Gweneth at the end.

Not as it played out, just the general plot twist as it was. But you said it well in the spoiler indeed.

So
Jor-El never dies
on Krypton???
Well, there went my 4 star review.

Oh dear sweet Jesus no. Iron Man 3 was already ruined by a stupid unnecessary twist. Same thing with TDKR. I'm tired of seeing so much potential wasted on the big screen.

All I need is for my hope and hype for a comic book movie be crushed for the third time in a row.

That twist was a twist we ALL saw coming. I didn't even attempt to pretend to be suprised when i watched it in theaters.
What was poorly executed was the way Nolan filmed Talia dying.
CORNIEST DEATH EVVVVER. *well maybe not ever*

The voice is too deep to sound like Superman's, and it sounds more Russell Crowe tbh. It also sounds like he's saying "you" instead of "them." The only thing is why would Zod care about someone betraying another person not named General Zod.

I could be wrong though.

Here's what I think:

1) It's an American accent. Definitely not Crowe.
2) I suppose it's a little deeper than his normal voice, but it's certainly still within Cavill's range. It sounds like him to me. I think Cavill lowers his voice for certain lines to give them more gravitas. It's called acting. :oldrazz:
3) When that line is delivered, they show a close-up of Superman, and when the next line is delivered, they show a close-up of Zod. To me, this seems like Snyder's way of indicating that Superman delivers the first line and Zod delivers the second.
4) I don't understand how you're hearing "you." I hear "them," and it seems rather clear to me.
5) I think the context of the two lines is this: Zod wants Superman to join the surviving Kryptonians and conquer the planet, ruling the humans and treating them as slaves. Superman responds, "I won't betray them," thereby declaring his loyalty to the human race and his willingness to defend Earth. Zod then replies, "You already have," maybe because Superman broke out of the military's custody, or maybe because Superman is the one who led Zod to Earth.

I don't have an obsession with that dying scene. The problems with Rises go far beyond that dumb twist. I just thought the second villain was pointless and she took away from time Bats could have spent with Selina. The movie didn't even integrate Selina in the plot as well as it should because it was too busy giving Blake too many scenes and having Talia as a second love interest and do some lame full circle b.s that 3rd films always do. In a way Talia was just like Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3, a pointless love interest added for no reason but Gwen Stacy at least didn't take away from the main villain.

Watching RAW on USA and they said stay tuned after the program is over for a sneek peak of Man of Steel.

Is there a fracture in the space time continuum? Why are our posts being rearranged in chronology? The hell?

I like your posts almost all your posts so I would. Why though?

I would. :woot:

So he is gone forever. Shame.
I'd miss ya Marvin. I enjoy all your posts. They are very thorough.

Not even remotely. :o

Thanks, you're all now on my list.

Sometimes I have a deep contempt for your posts, sometimes you make me so freakin mad I could scream but there is this thing between us that I can't explain...

I would cue up that song from beauty and the beast, but you get the idea.

peace.

I agree.
Hathaway*while great* was underused.
But then again, i feel Nolan and his brother just threw Catwoman in because hey, can't have a batman trilogy without Catwoman :o

I really, really like TDKR. It has it issues but imo, I still find it more enjoyable than Begins. Obviously, TDK was the best out of the three. I really feel there was no way to win with Rises. Maybe Nolan knew he couldn't beat TDK, so he just had his mindset at making a good third film in a series. I feel he accomplished that. Rises is a good *although flawed* final film in a series.

If you watch Entertainment Tonight Superman is on now...

EDIT: well all it was was a fat guy who said Henry Cavill could become a superstar based on Man of Steel
:funny:

How does that info ruin the film for you? God forbid someone try something new in a Superman film. At least wait to see how it turns out.
I am all for different stuff, but if that was true. Wow. But I think it is bull.

Depends on if he films his entire movie, or has to cut it down from an over 4 hour screenplay to an under 3 hour film. :cwink:
