All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 8

I'm defecting to Marvel :D

I'll tell you what would be epic for a finale of Superman, that would blow TA out the water. An ending like the one in Earth One.

Say you have Zod's entire army invading Earth and Earth's forces battle them and Superman battles Zod himself.

But it looks like we're getting a nice final battle in the cow pats of Smallville...epic?

I am defecting to Marvel as well. :oldrazz:

I have no hope for a good Batman movie after Nolan goes, and Snyder's MOS has so far looked less than spectacular.

(I mean a finale Battle in Smallville ? Neo Medieval Krypton ?)

And I feel that WB will never make another GL, Flash or WW movie either.

Marvel fans are lucky *$&@#

Maybe the final battle is going to stretch across Metropolis and Smallville and maybe some more areas. That would be kind of cool, imo. And Im pretty sure any major fight scene that might happen in Metropolis would have been shot entirely in front of the green screen or on studio land. Regardless, I don't think MOS should ´´compete`` with anyone in terms of how big or ´´epic`` a battle may be, as that itself does not make a quality film (*cough*Transformers*cough*). But I must admit, It would be very satisfying if MOS ´´wiped the floor`` with any other cbm in that regard as well.

Who said the final battle was in Smallville? He encounters Faora and the CG suit guy but have we seen Superman and Zod there? For all we know he takes out Faora and the CG suit guy while Zod is doing something else and then they come to blows in Metropolis. But hey, ya never know.

We know there is a fight in Metropolis and we know there is a fight in Smallville. We have no idea when each occurs.

Yeah I don't get why everyone is assuming Smallville is the big fight just because we have pics of it.

If anything, the fact they were relaxed enough to allow a few pics to be taken shows maybe it's the less important fight scene.

We know there was a smoke machine used in Chicago to make the streets all smoky, and they were so tight on security no one got any pics...

I still hold out hope for a big fight in Metropolis.

I think there will more than a rough cut by then, the movie will probably be done by December. Weren't they already editing footage while filming and sending it to the FX houses to work on it? I seem to remember that being mentioned somewhere.

Yes. Showtime confirmed it on TMT.

Remember that photo Snyder tweeted of himself riding a bicycle along the WB Burbank lot? That's probably when he was screening the MOS rough cut to WB execs. The movie will be done by the end of the year at this rate.

Iron Man 3 movie is looking good as it has Ben Kingsley and they are possibly having Mandarin as a villain, I hope that the release dates of IM3 and MOS are not too close together.

IM3 is going to be filmed in China as well. Iron man is an established franchise with RDJ as the lead, who has large fanbase.

Superman showing up (in full costume) at the Kent home probably indicates that Zod orchestrated a very personal attack (against Martha). Whether that means the “final showdown” occurs in Smallville… who knows? But I’m reasonably sure the locations for battle will be diverse. If one of those battles takes place in the skies over Metropolis, this (almost certainly) will be be studio/cg - stuff we’ve had no “spy pic” access to.

I'm getting pretty tired of watching the same old Marvel characters. It would be damn great if The Avengers-culmination concluded an area that lead to a reintroduction of new characters with a new approach from Marvel instead of these rehashing Bay-movies.

WB needs more than one cash cow...

Green Lantern was a bomb, but that was all on WB. Mark my words, this won't be the last time WB attempts another big DC property, and we haven't seen the last of Green Lantern.

WB also has Batman as a cash cow. Robinov mentioned existing plans for Batman after TDKR last year. Batman will inevitably get a film in 2015 or 2016.

There's just really no necessity to attempt another DC franchaise after their incredible loss on Green Lantern. It would be bad business.

They weren't going to do another Superman either after SR, until the lawsuit forced their hand. Alan Horn testified under oath that there were no plans for a Superman film.

They'll be a month apart, so they should be fine. By the time MOS comes out, IM3 will have wound down by then. And IM3 should be concerned with ST2 two weeks after it...

am I the only one who says to hell with Nolan and what he wants? I enjoyed his Batman films but he makes something that is completely NON-Realsitic too damn realistic. I don't understand what everyone's obsession with realism in comic book movies is. Why does it HAVE TO BE REALISTIC? To me, something that is fantasy, should be a approached as such but with a serious attitude...not campy and cheesy like the later Superman and Batman movies were. Take your work serious, make something that both adults and children can enjoy. You don't have to take the fantasy out of a comic book movie to make it good. I don't agree with how Nolan handled it and like someone said before...he won't be around forever and I for one am looking forward to that day...
oh and happy birthday to me!

Realism works best for the live action medium when it comes to these characters.

You take unrealistic characters and make them as realistic and grounded as possible.

I think Superman will be the ultimate payoff of this approach. This is a character that is begging to be reinterpreted in this manner... in order to become relevant to this generation.

with that opinion you end up with street fighter legend of chun li and dragonball evolution

The problem with those movies wasn't the realism element though.

I managed to sit through DB:E. It was hardly realistic. They just tried to turn it into the Smallville version and it was painfully bad.

well street fighter for example went the realism route and this is what m bison looked like

completely unrecognizable as the character

not every character has to be 100% realsitic and probable to our world it is a freaking movie we can suspend our disbelief

I do agree with you to an extent on Nolan's intentions. But to a degree, even his Batman is fantastical, albeit in a more realistic setting. Some scenes from BB and TDK feel inspired not only from the graphic novels, but from the more comic-centered Batman: The Animated Series.

But I find it hard to believe that you can't pair Nolan's Batman with Cavill's Superman, or do a JL film with these actors. All you need is the right story and the right approach... get those right and audiences are willing to suspend their disbelief.

And furthermore, no one's stopping WB from restarting a JL movie and exercising Cavill's sequel clause for the film.

thank you...knock this realism **** off! it's basically saying that you don't believe that the audience has an imagination...I can believe a man can fly and that a man could be mutated in to a giant Lizard or Crocodile, and a shape-shiffiting hunk of clay...

just take these characters from the comics and put them in the world around us...I don't need an explanation for why Superman flies, and you can easily come up with an explanation for Clayface and Killer Croc.

You're acting like that was the reason the movie failed...

No. Not even close.

A bad script is a bad script. Realism or not.

Snyder and Nolan are.

If there will ever be a JL movie (and that's a big IF), it won't have Cavill as Superman.

Just as there was never any real chance of Bale and his Batman being in a Justice League film.

not saying thats the reason but it was a big reason i was turned off from that film

embrace the fantasy embrace the unrealism because it is a damn movie and we as an audience have an imagination

I'm sorry Rockstar, but you're full of crap. You keep referencing Nolan's dislike over the DCU and Snyder's focused goal to stay far away from Marvel Studios' approach but neither Nolan and Snyder have any say in whether or not a JL/WF/Trinity film will be made. They're not on the board, thus they possess no authority.

Unless you provide ground-breaking evidence that Nolan is secretly the CEO at WB, your statements are basically rubbish... propaganda.

At the end of the day, WB has all the power in the world to green-light an ensemble film. However, executives aren't willing to risk another 200 million and/or put any real effort into hiring the proper director and writer for their DC properties.

They struck oil with Nolan. Other than that, WB executives haven't tried to pick up Jones, Bird, Blomkamp, Cuaron, Aronofsky, Refn, etc for The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Justice League. They at least hired Snyder for MoS and Trank for another obscure DC title, but WB keeps hiring second-rate writers and unfitted directors for the projects (Singer being the exception).

WB can't progress in the Superhero genre with that mentality... but I don't think they care. They've got plenty of other projects to worry about than just CBMs.
