Haha, cool. I'm in Newark, I bet you're going to Union Landing :oldrazz: Cool.

I'm not going tonight but have fun

Actually I'll be visiting the new one at Pacific Commons! Going all out in XD and Dolby Atmos :D

Kevin Smith's lengthy Man of Steel review goes up tonight on one of his podcasts, for those of you interested.

He pretty much murdered TDKR last year. This should be interesting.

I thought Kevin had nothing but praise for it (even saw it three, or four, times opening weekend) and it was some one else the podcast that tore it apart (although the guy clearly misunderstood quite a bit about the movie).

Ralph Garman, his co-host for Hollywood Babble On and life long Batman fan, tore it apart on his podcast and it was hilarious! I agreed with everything he said too. Kevin made fun of it as well and acknowledged the film's many faulty logic, and although he likes the picture, he admits that it was a letdown.

He done one initial podcast where he said it was awesome but had some flaws.

He then done another with Ralph Garman who hated it. They done a podcast and pretty much tore it to pieces. Problem was, some of their issues didn't make sense. (reason for 8 year gap etc etc..)

Beat for beat remake, with a half the character and spirit.
A for effort imo.
Beat for beat ?
In S:TM om SMII I dont recall Superman jouneying to Krypton to see if anbody survived or the Kryptonite continent,
or Lois getting engaged to Perry Whites Nephew .
In which of the two Donner movies did Lois have a kid ?
While its Pedigree was steeped in the Donner films, SR was not a remake .

What? I thought he loved it?

I only heard one of his pod casts on the film(I guess he made a few) but him and someone else just spent the entire time making jokes about and and pointing out holes. I just figured that was what he thought.

It was pretty funny though, with the bane voice segments.

im in the theater. big crowd for the wal mart screening. surprised.

Is that the one by the Fremont hub? I haven't gone there yet but I hear it's nice.

Yeah, I remember being confused by some of Ralph's issues, but I don't recall Kevin ever tearing it apart himself.

Yes, indeed it is very nice. It's my first time here and since there are no lines set up I sneaked in the theater and it's nice, leather seats and all...

He seemed to just go with it. Surprised me really cause Ralph did point out issues that contradicted Smith's initial review and I thought Smith would stick up for it a little.

Hrmm, I don't recall anyone journeying to Krypton in the theatrical cut of Superman Returns either.

More seriously, you misunderstand what beat for beat means. He's not talking about exact plot points but general structure and emotional beats. While Marvin is overstating his point, he is right that Superman Returns tried to copy the general outline and formula of STM with mixed success.

One thing I do recall is Ralph claiming that Bruce gave up Batman because of Rachel's death, and yeah, Kevin did go with it.

I suppose you are right, but not completely.

-Start with Krypton exploding
-Land on Farm in Kansas
-Arrive in Metropolis as Kent with superman a non element
-Then Daily planet and meet the gang
-Then Lois get's in trouble on a air craft
-Then superman makes his debut with that rescue(of course it involves lois)
-Then one on one interview with lois(at night) letting her know about him
-Let's not forget about the nightly flight with the same music
-All the while we are cutting with Lex and his hair brained schemes
-More random rescues(around the world?)
-Lex acquires Kryptonite

Honestly I draw a blank during these parts of both films

-Lex get's supermans attention and they square off
-FOR GODS SAKES SUPERMAN EVEN LEAVES THE DAILY PLANET FOR THIS MEETING.
-Lex lex fills superman in on his Land acquisition scheme that destroy land
-Lois finds herself in danger and is buried
-Superman is drowned and has kryptonite on his person

-Superman is free(this time by lois) and lifts things and saves a few people
-Lex's evil henchwomen with a heart has a change of heart around this point.

-Happy ending, fly by the camera and smile(only this time in cgi).

It's not the same movie but the beat structure is undeniable, I'd almost respect them if they at least played with the order of these beats but nope... As much crap as the kid get's he was the most exciting change. As for the trip to krypton itself, I heard that was cut.

My Local Film critic on channel 7 just highly praised MOS,
He was highly complimentary of all of the performances , He also said there humor in between all of the action.
One interesting thing.
He said he thought it ended 4 times.
I guess that refers to all those action scenes in the latter half of the film.

Wasnt thinking of it in an emotional context.
Point taken.
Sorry about that Marvin.

That sounds promising. However it also affirms what the critics were saying. Perhaps this is a sign that there will be a difference of opinion with the GA.

5 minutes until showtime! Woot! God bless the guy thst gave us the extra ticket that we needed. Real nice of him.

Not sure I can accept your apology seeing as how, I was being deadly serious about that beat for beat thing.
