All Things Superman: An Open Discussion (Spoilers) - - - - - - - Part 87

Batman doesn't have godlike powers, superman does, its give superman a much more grandeur view on the world then batman, and how his powers could change it if he were to get more involved.

True, but like I've said, I'm not a fan at all of showing that batman is the better hero than Superman in every incarnation that we've seen so far.

They should be portrayed as equals in their own rights imho, with Superman representing the hope for humanity while Batman represents its potential for goodness.

I just hope that when the Justice League film happens with Cavil's superman, that he doesn't take a back seat to the new version of Batman. I'm getting quite tired as it is seeing Batman always portrayed as the "better hero", more importantly, as the only hero who can't be tainted, in just about every portrayed version of the group. Superman is always shown being the one that doesn't have the brains or skills when put against Batman and he's always the one that's more likely to become evil whereas Batman cannot.
indeed. :(

Unfortunately no. It didn't feel like it really transcended the genre as they say with TDK and there were too many flaws here and there to put it on par with TDK which was near perfection.

I'm not sure if it's even been settled whether or not this is even the best superman film ever? I enjoyed it the most out all of them but i know others have differing opinions on that.

I was being sarcastic lol

first, you can't compare TDK to MOS. two different animals and both have their pros and cons.

saying that, I watched the movie twice, the first time got me all sentimental. even the day after I felt for Kal-Clark-Sups. definitely you feel for this guy and all the decision he made, good or bad, came from his guts since he had no "training" as Superman. even the destruction shows that.

the second time I had time to catch up on some things like dialogue I missed or take more attention in the action. one thing that stand up in both viewings was Jor-El, man I hope to see more of him in the next movie (also Kelex.)

I definitely gonna see it again.

Really? I have actually heard people say almost the exact same thing in seriousness.

I so agree with this. I've never liked any of their team ups for the reason you stated. Batman is incorruptible, perfect, brilliant while Superman is a muscle head who can turn evil and become dangerous at the blink of an eye from being mind controlled. Gah. I don't remember which episode or movie it was but there was this one time when they were fighting some robot that was indestructible or something from one side and superman kept going in circles with it like a dunce while batman got smart and snagged it with a rope or something. I don't remember the details or the story but that scene totally disgusted me.

Indeed here too, I think some writers struggle to write Superman and Batman together. Some feel the need to make them get potshots at one another or engage in a fight or two. Personally I think they were best written together in the Superman Batman series, they were truly friends in that. When it comes down to it Superman and Batman at the end of it all are fighting for the same thing. I believe they work best as friends, obviously not old chum type friends but the way it was done in the S/B series.

Indeed; I like to think that out of all of the members in the Justice League, they probably have the biggest amount of respect for each other. They're literally brother-in-arms if you will, and would most likely take a bullet for each other, but like you said, they're not all chummy about it.lol

I think both characters should realize that they both make good arguments when it comes to their different approaches in being an hero for the world.

The only thing that makes me hopeful about Superman's potential role within a Justice League film is how Snyder kept saying that Superman should be at the top of it, along with how they keep describing him as the granddaddy of all superheroes.

Just felt like sharing in case not everyone got around to seeing this masterpiece…

Not that the Donner one was something amazing, but boy did it play better than falling over a rug and his hand falling in the fire.

The final moments with Zod and the gang were better as well. After I learned about Superman and his powers, I never understood why he played those "games" with them at the end of the Lester version, with the shield made of plastic and the hide and seek thing.

I just didn't like how they made him spin the world again, although I wonder if that was only used because they didn't have a real ending filmed.

I disagree. The scene with Lois tricking Clark was silly. She is supposed to be in love with this person and here she is going "hurr hurr gotcha".

The Lester version actually had real emotion. And I like the fact that Clark may have done it on purpose subconsciously.

I'm actually about to start working on my personal edit of the movie and this is one "original" scene that I am definitely keeping.

Had a 3rd viewing yesterday and mulling a 4th for today. Tue at a 1:50pm in UA Court St. in Brooklyn was very packed and the response was a theatre full of applause at the end. Aaw this at a regular theatre and I think it benefitted the film to be seen digital like my 2 prev screenings. Digital makes all the cgi even sharper. On a side note, even after a 2hr 26min film explaining how Lois knew his entire life story there were people there that were still thinking he was fooling her at the end with glasses. I even had to tell a co worker who saw and loved the film that she already knows. I am sorry but it's all up on the screen folks. Pay attention!

Haha I went with my friend who came with his girlfriend. At the end she turned to him and said 'I can't believe she doesn't recognise him now.' My friend turned to me and said 'You can tell I don't go out with her for her brains.' He kept ribbing her about that for half the journey home :p

This is a pic of Jor El I found. This is why the movie was so succesful. Alot of planning and creation goes into film. Just look at him. The image of God. Very alien looking and still keeps that "Superman" and "Man of Steel" esque. Makes me believe that there is a race of god like beings somewhere out there. Avvy please, lol.

:word:

To be honest that image really shows how they could have modernized the red underwear. If they made that cod piece red and kept the gold belt over it. I imagine it looking quite good actually whilst keeping with the military armor motif of the rest of the suit.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who was thinking the same thing when I saw all of the Kryptonians armors from the scenes taking place on that planet.lol

Yeah they definitely used the world turning back ending because the only other ending they had was the kiss. Personally I'd have ended it with the last time he sees Lois is at her apartment, then he sorts out the bully, sees the President says he won't let him down again and flys over the world as he always did. Yes it would have been an open ending but it would have been better than erasing the entire movie.

At the studio screening for the Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Donner said to Singer that his sequel to SR now can have Zod come back because he's back in the Phantom Zone.

I prefer the Donner version but ill be honest I'd have kept the Lester version in aswell simply because seeing that scene and we know its from test screenings really takes me out of the film.

On the subject of an ultimate cut I'd love to see one that keeps in Superman's Super punch on Non I always hated how crap it looked when he kicked him in the Lester version. But the main thing I hate about the Donner cut was the ommision of the “General, Care to Step Outside” line. I was like noooooooo when they took that out for the Freedom of the Press line.

Anyone still goosebumps whenever watching the moment when Superman was flying up against the beam with the music that was accompanying it while we were being shown shots of Perry holding onto Jenny's hand as they both thought that they were going to die?
