BvS All Things Superman and Batman: An Open Discussion - - - - - - - - - Part 44

I've always wanted a Superman fight scene similar to Neo vs Smith in Matrix Revolutions. We did get that. But in the Neo vs Smith fight the hero was actually vulnerable. He was actually getting hurt.

Obviously Superman is nigh on indestructible. But with a bit more imagination there could have been moments showing him physically vulnerable, or even have him trying to save people and fail, to show him emotionally vulnerable. Then when he finally does snap Zod's neck it's a bit more powerful. Just my opinion.

They did do that, during the Smallville fight when he saved that Helicopter pilot, and then promptly got sucker-punched (no pun intended) for his trouble. His practically BEGGING Zod to stop right before the neck-snap also sold that well. people were already complaining that this movie was too dark, so actually showing Zod butchering innocent people would have been a bad idea because the people would have just complained some more. The movie showed Zod's intentions and the horror of what he was doing just fine as it was, the didn't need to go any farther.

MoS for all its flaws had the most visually incredible fight scenes i have ever seen in any cbm. Especially if you are a DBZ/anime fan, you cant help but watch those scenes with great satisfaction. They raised the bar in that front IMO. These days am not even awed by other cbm fight scenes despite the fact that they are also impressive. Like cap 2 whose fight scenes are brilliantly choreographed but fail to put me at the edge of my seat. What makes me even happier is that they can take it up a few gears. There is so much more they can do.

Snyder and the story tellers here are perfectly capable of delivering compelling action and superman action at that. The final fight is very much divisive and I've seen it be used to launch all sorts of agendas against Snyder, Action in modern films, Superman....etc. The truth is like many films the final fight fell short of what it could have been. I've seen this happen many times but like all things around here there will be exaggeration and talking points. I can see how a 2 hour film can feel like 3 hours if it drags but 6 minutes feeling like 20 given how to the point the actual plot of the fight was? I don't see it.

I digress, what I wanted to say was Snyder and co made some big missteps in designing that fight from the suit damage to the fact that it came after the bomb was diffused(surely the batman producers know better) and so fourth. But one thing no one really get's into is just how overly praised the battle in smallville was. Moreover no one really takes notice that, that fight is actually longer than the final fight. No one get's into how they pull off investment in spite of invincible players and snyder does understand that superman does save strays(when he is given the opportunity). This fight and it's reception are proof positive that this is the right team for the job and like singer on xmen2 and raimi on spidey two and nolan on batman 2, things can improve. Especially now that they've figured alot of technical and fan response things out.

For everyone one that says Snyder doesn't get it cause the final fight 'sucked', there will be someone saying Snyder does get it cause the middle fight rocked and had that middle fight been the final, the entire discourse around this film would no doubt be different. I suspect such things in the second film.

I personally think they need to keep things grounded. Even the zod fight was at it's best when both players were on the ground and real. Just like in Blade 2.

So Goyer apparently wants to do Green Lantern? Given his position at WB, i wouldn't be surprised if a Goyer GL gets fasttracked

Can't be any worse than the last one.

And the Smallville was great. From the moment Superman swooped in and took Zod out whilst screaming "you think you can threaten my mother!?" to when he face planted Faora into the concrete at superspeed i was loving it.

The final fight just fell flat for me though.

That would be pretty great.
However after it comes out people will no doubt change their minds about the previous film hyperbole et all.

Still, it might just give people some perspective.

I actually think Goyer would be more suited toward Green Lantern than Superman.

I hope it would be eventually be an ensemble series.

I'd love someone to do Green Lantern properly. Someone with a real imagination and sense of creativity.

The last one was just so generic and cookie cutter, which is ironic considering a Green Lantern's greatest strength is their imagination

It seems like every day people are saying its Batman's birthday so WB should release something.

I don't understand, is it actually today? Was it yesterday? the day before? Is it his birthday every day this year?

Wikipedia says he made his debut in May

.

Everybody in the theater that I was in was clapping when that scene happened.

It was a true "holy ****!" moment.

Something like that was missing from the final fight. Like when they first went at it Zod's like "i'm going to kill every last one of them!" and Kal is like "Well i'm going to stop you".

Just didn't have the same impact as that scene in the Smallville fight for me.

You have less audience preconceptions with GL.
perhaps when he saves the world it will actually be seen as just that.

Issue date and release date are different things. 75 years ago today Detective Comics #27 was released.

From WB/DC press release:
First appearing in the comic book Detective Comics #27, which hit newsstands on March 30, 1939, featuring artwork by Bob Kane and a script by Bill Finger, Batman emerged from the shadows....

It is TODAY :yay:

Hal Jordan had his chance. Get John Stewart in on the act.

Hal Jordan got a raw deal, but yes I'd also like to see Stewart on screen.

I'd only want to see John in a film with at least one partner. He's easily the blandest.

Yeah I'd like for them to go with John Stewart too.

If they go with Hal though, Joel is my pick.

I'd say Hal is the most uninteresting. He's just a generic archetype of a superhero in my eyes. John has at least a more unique background. A stoic family man becoming a superhero is actually pretty different these days haha.

Guy is probably my favourite human GL though. He's like John McClane. But he needs someone to bounce off. Maybe John and Guy would be good then? A cosmic Riggs and Murtaugh!
