The Dark Knight Rises Alleged "Batman 3" News from Members of Production Team

Tell you what.

Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

They've done it again!!

The reason I don't think it's going to be Depp or any A-listers is because I think Nolan is going to have several villains in the film. And rather go with lesser known but quality actors that can't be identified as any other character in fiction for the sake of his budget and final product.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

I still want Andy Serkis as the Penguin.

Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice.. no, wait, totally wrong thread

Well, now that Nolan has some serious street cred with how successful TDK was, i bet some A-listers would be willing to take smaller roles for BB3 just for the experience of being in a movie of such a grand scale and the chance to do a villain like Ledger. Although most A-listers are always in large productions- TDK is the biggesnt thing since Titanic so the appeal for the 3rd installment may be more attractive.

As far as pre-production starting in Feb... I bet they do. the studio is probably chomping at the bit to get this baby rolling. BB3 has numero uno priority right now so whatever Nolan and Co. needs- they will get it to start things in motion.

Nolan is the wild card though- he has really been laying low and staying out of the limelight... possibly working on a script???

Keep an eye out for suspicious movie production sets in Chicago in Feb. Ya never know!!!

But from what I've read about Nolan and his philosophy on movie making I gather that he wouldn't want a villain that his audience would recognize as Captain Jack Sparrow. Just like he wouldn't woudn't want his audience thinking about all the kids Catwoman has had with Brad Pitt.

I agree with in that regard. The thing i liked about Ledger's Joker was that when i watched the movie- i never once saw Ledger, i only saw Joker. that fact alone made me want to watch the movie over and over again. I WANTED to see Ledger behind that make-up, but i couldn't. I loved it.

I am hoping that another A-lister can put on a performance like that. It doesnt even have to be an A-lister, but just someone who can act his/her a$$ off the way Ledger did.

That's on schedule with where TDK was, correct? The Ledger casting news came right around the Oscars in 2006. I remember talking about with my gfriend at the time while we were at an Oscar viewing party.

EDIT: Nevermind, that news didn't come until the summer. I confused that conversation with another party at the same place around the time of Heath's casting.
I think the sequel will be a little bit faster than before.

Jett is now saying he thinks there is an outside chance it could be made in two years. He says it's coming from "senior" people involved in the production that things are starting up in January.

To me, this seems plausible. The Prisoner certainly won't happen now so Nolan has nothing else lined up - which is all the three year gap was ever for. Summer 2011 is incredibly busy as well, so WB might be happy to move TDK out to 2010.

I'm tired of all these rumors. the script isn't even written yet let alone casting and such.

That means nothing, and you don't know how far along the script is. Goyer and Jonah said they had picked out a villain when TDK came out. It's now been two and a half months since then. The TDK script was finished by the end of 2005/start of 2006 and Goyer never started on the story until two months after Begins when Chris told him he wanted to do another one.

If they have everything in place why not, they still have the sets in london so why would they waste more money renting them when they can film. When they first started this series they had a direction of where they wanted to go with it, so I wouldnt be surprised if they are already working on a script. My guess is if it does come out in 2010 they will say something around december with the dvd. As for Nolan, they probably backed up a brinks truck onto his drive way, and he probably told them where to unload it.

Do I believe them? I said that the "Depp as Riddler" thing has been done to death on the internet, and I wondered if it was where they heard it but they insisted it was true.

We shall see...
I kind of doubt below-the-line crew members would be privvy to any serious casting negotiations.

I'm wondering if there are any plans to shoot the next one entirely in IMAX?...
Since the IMAX camera is incredibly loud and Nolan doesn't like to do extensive ADR, I find it unlikely. You can tell when something has been recorded during filming, especially in IMAX when the sound is really good. You can't replicate the reverb at a location in a studio.

Also, Nolan and Pfister like working handheld, and Wally was able to muster one 10-second shot with the IMAX camera handheld because it's so heavy. (I'm still trying to figure out which shot that was, LOL...)

hmm feb?

Well I'll be at the New York Comic Con in Feb so hopefully we'll have some sort of news.

hmmmm

Read Jett's updated comments. He now says that pre pre-production might commence Feb 2009 and not filming. I highly doubt TDK comes out before 2011 and why would anyone want that? I don't want Chris Nolan burning out with little time in between movies. Look at what happened with Raimi and Spider-man 3. A production as big as TDK takes nearly two years out of his life. I prefer that he recharge creatively and come back fresh for Batman 3.

Also, where does everyone get the idea that The Prisoner isn't getting made anymore? The Prisoner isn't going to be some big budget event. It's going to be smaller scale and probably would take 6-8 months to complete (compared to TDK which took that much time to film). According to Variety (dated Sept. 24, 2008), Nolan is actually developing the movie now, which would probably be completed May or June 2009, giving him plenty of time to start developing Batman 3 with a filming date of April 2010 (TDK started filming April 2007 with a release date of July 2008).

I don't think it matters much that Summer 2011 is going to be incredibly busy. So was this past summer. Besides, look at all the other big movies coming out that summer: Spider-man 4, Pirates 4, Tr2n, Captain America, The Avengers, and Cars 2. The big ones are coming out in May (Spider-man 4, Pirates 4, and Captain America), one in June (Cars 2), and Tr2n doesn't have an exact release date yet. The only competition for Batman 3 is The Avengers, which is coming out July 2011, assuming Batman 3 follows TDK and comes out in July again. I actually think studios would be scared going against Batman 3 considering how much TDK is making and not vice versa.

Summer 2011 will be insanely busy, but due to TDK's box office performance, the sequel can pretty much set whatever date it wants. Other studios will be working around it, because they saw how Hellboy2, X-Files2, and Mummy4 got steamrolled this year.

And I think the July release date definitely works. :yay:

Exactly, competition is not a problem for TDK2, in fact I would think that whenever the movie comes out, the other studios would probably move their movies around TDK2, much like Harry Potter did this year.

i think it would benefit other studios to put out their films as early in the summer as possible if BB3 comes out July. cause for the month of July and August- BB3 will own the theaters again... Hopefully.

If Nolan's ready to go then let's get the ball rolling once again!

I wouldn't be surprised if it does come out in 2010, Nolan is tired of Batman and wants to get it out of the way.

Panda eater has the musings of a troll, but I am not quite sure...hmm..

Why would he be tired of Batman?

He was interested in making Batman Begins, but after that he wanted to work on other projects. He closed the film with a joker card, and after a while felt guilty and forced himself to make TDK because he got the fanboys all excited over the joker. Now he finds himself in the same position, TDK was so awesome and succesful that feels he's obligated to give us one last Batman film.

LOL. Told you guys... do you really think that Nolan or the studio are going to let you know how far along they are with such a top secret/high profile project?

I was one of the sources to the report at BOF and as you've read, he's gotten similar reports from other Chicago crew people.

I won't post unless I've gotten info from an inside source, and trust me, since I work in the Chicago film market I've got an ear on what's happening here.

Spider-Man (2002)
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Spider-Man 3 (2007)

2007 - 2004 = 3 years

3 year gap = excellent movie? Answer: Not necessarily.
