It was a rough weekend.
I went in for my annual last week, and my doctor called Friday to inform me I tested positive for chlamydia. ChLaMyDiA?! I'm married and have been in a monogamous relationship for the last five years, so needless to say, I was **cking shocked and horrified. I told her there must be a mistake and her response was basically, "Honey, it's an STD. If you didn't do it, he did." Nice. Then she let me know she had to report it to the health department. Awesome! I work in a cubicle so my responses were rather stilted and I couldn't ask everything I wanted to. Thankfully, she called at the end of the day, so I slammed my laptop shut and practically ran out of the building.
I told my hubby as soon as I got home and he immediately insisted he didn't do anything. After talking with him, I had (have) absolutely ZERO reason to doubt him - but, I mean, it's a frickin' STD, right? So my brain conjures every horrible scene I don't want to imagine. I went with him to our regular doctor so he could be tested, and she saw how distressed I was and suggested I retest. We knew we'd been faithful, yet we felt "dirty". This all happened Friday. By Sunday I was kind of over it because it was obvious my hubby wasn't hiding anything. He would have to be the coldest, most heartless bastard to pull off that act.
The doc finally called Tuesday and confirmed what we already believed. BOTH NEGATIVE!! This whole ******ed experience ultimately made us stronger and validated our trust in each other. But still - WTF?!?!
I'm rather appalled my first doc didn't suggest I get retested before taking the Zithromax she prescribed. Thank god I went with my husband before going to the pharmacy and was still able to retest. A marriage could be on the line, and you don't acknowledge there could have been a mistake in the testing? That's effed up. I made it very clear to her when she first told me that I didn't think that could be right and she practically responded, "Your husband cheated on you." I want to go make a Jerry Maguire scene in the damn lobby and take their fish.
So, the moral of the story is: ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION!!!
Has this ever happened to you??
