it seems whenever a big movie comes out (Spiderman, Star Wars, etc.) the big toy companies ALWAYS cash in on it, usually by just bastardising the character (i.e. rocket-launching Batman) and making the toys just plain ******ed. even the CANDY companies cash in, they throw Batman on an m&m wrapper, every 8 year old in America will buy it. am i the only one who gets pissed when they do this?

And I'll have you know that "Rocket Launcher Sub-Zero Batman with Mecha-Armour" was edited out of the final cut of Batman Begins.

*Waits for the director's cut with Lava-Blast-Batman*

You need to understand how the movie industry works. It's all about the toys. You want a $200m Spider-Man film? Then you need Sony to rake in the cash with fast food tie-ins, official books, video games, merchendise and mainly action figures. More money has been made from Batman movie merchendise than from Batman movies themselves. Think about that.

Also, what's wrong with kids wanting to play with the toys after they see a movie? They see X-Men, they think Wolverine is cool, they want a Wolverine figure. Are you seriously saying (I'm guessing your age here) you didn't want a Raptor or T-Rex after seeing Jurassic Park, or a lightsaber after Star Wars?

The merchendise has little (although some) effect on the content of most movies, so you should just ignore it. Batman & Robin was a toy commercial, but Batman Begins absolutely was not.

I think your one of the few who gets pissed when they do that. I mean most of us just don't mind, but you can be as pissed as you want.

I know where you're coming from, when I was a wee lad I often thought 'Wait, Spiderman doesn't need a car!' but I try not to think about it, it only makes my head hurt

I went to a local discount store the other day, and every bag of chips and every thing of soda had SR all over them. It made me sick.

How can that make you sick?
I would totally geek out in the store if I saw them.

Is it worse than when we were kids - or are we just noticing it more?

With the toys, yes. With the candy, no. I'm 17 and collected all the Skittle Star Wars wrappers.

I just hate when they make crappy tie ins. Like the Superman Returns and Batman Begins toys...they all suck, and even if I was a kid I wouldnt want those pieces of crap. I don't mind, and in fact like when they slap the logo on other things though, because it gets the word about the movie out there months in advance at times, and alot of stuff they come out with looks pretty cool too :o

:O I bought the car kept the figure and then gave the car to my friends kid.:(

Because believe it or not, people in the entertainment industry are not just there to entertain, they have to make money as well.

I'm not bothered at all by this.

And I must say, when I was a kid I wanted all this stuff. So really they were doing me a favor.

I was gonna buy a box of capncrunch one day, but when I saw superman on it, I put it back and got a box of Cocoa Puffs.

I remember getting a bunch of the Batman Forever toys and stuff when the movie came out. I especially loved the pogs and trading cards.
