The Dark Knight Am I the only one who thought The Dark Knight wasn't a Batman film?

Don't hate me for this, but I actually despise TDK.

Like anytime I see it, i REALLY hate it. Being a passionate Batman fan, I just can't stand these things:

Too much talk, too preachy

That suit that makes Batman look stupid

that voice

The characterization of Joker (so he's mad and clueless AND has great plans that go to perfection...CONTRADICTION!!!!!)

Chicago as Gotham?

The cheesy speech at the end

Two Face lasting 15 mins...or less

Dent being made into the "white knight" and deviating from the comics, which made more sense

All in all, I am just pissed that it's called TDK because if anything deserves that title, it's the comic from Frank Miller....NOT this.

You sir, suffer from a sever form of mental handicap. I suggest you leave these boards at once and never return.

Mental handicap?

That's the best response you can come up with?

Maybe your brain needs a check. I'll book the appointment for you, no probs.

Oh, to delete this thread? Why? Can't actually come up with reasons as to why TDK should be considered a quality film? And not just average?

IGN's review always summed it up best for me why TDK is brilliant, and greatest superhero movie ever.
This post is full of win.
TDK is an engrossing movie, brilliantly acted, with a stunning score and cinematography, that takes inspiration from some great Batman stories, respects the source material, and is still brave enough to deviate enough from what we would expect of a comic book movie.
What's not to love?

Sorry, but quoting IGN is the worst possible thing you could do. Those cats give ANYTHING a 10 these days.

Dark Knight just seemed like too much stuff crammed in. It tried to say too many things, be too great and too moral with all these speeches and just came across as being pretentious, which is the best word I can think of to summarize the film.
I do not feel like I am watching a film, it is as if I am being tutored as to why Dent is such a great guy...i get it. And all those speeches Alfred was making, nah. Got too tedious.

Thank you

I don't care if they gave Batman and Robin a 10/10. It's not like I need to defend TDK's popularity reviews wise. It's the highest critically acclaimed superhero movie of all time. It deserves it, too.

I said their review of the movie summed exactly why I think it's so great. That's why I posted it. I don't care what rating they give other movies.

Pretty much disagree with everything you said. The dialogue of this movie is one of my favorite aspects. It's an emotionally wrenching movie. Part of it's charm for me is the strong dialogue that makes me warm to the characters. Particularly in scenes like the dinner with Bruce, Dent, Rachel, and the Russian girl. The interrogation room scene. Bruce and Alfred's scene after Rachel's death. Gordon's final monologue in the movie etc.

Greatness.

The only time I've had any problem with dialogue in Nolan's movies was in Batman Begins, with the abundance of the use of the word fear being uttered by nearly every character every 5 minutes. Apart from that, the dialogue has been terrific. I hope we get more of the same in TDKR.

Agreed.

The Dark Knight respects the characters, you guys don't like it because they changed some origins and some characters physically but their the same psichologically, the joker is exactly like the one from the comics, He doesn't want batman dead because he finds him too interesting a foe.

"You'll hunt me; set the dogs on me; because that's what needs to happen. I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be."

"He's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight."

Those quotes summed up the entire Batman mythos clearer and simpler than any other Batman incarnation. If I had to choose, right now, one Batman tale to survive while every other one was obliterated into non-existence, I'd choose The Dark Knight, just because I know that people who watch it will understand what dozens of writers have been trying to say for decades, from those quotes.

That alone makes The Dark Knight more of a "Batman movie" than the other films, and pretty much one of the best Batman stories in general.

I was incredibly disappointed in 'The Dark Knight' after loving 'Batman Begins'. 'TDK' feels too much like a mobster movie with Batman in it. There's not enough 'visual' atmosphere in the movie, wheras 'BB' feels dark and moody, 'TDK' takes place too much during the day within a standard city and offices. 'The Joker' is incredible, they executed him perfectly and any scene with him is a treat, but beyond that, I feel 'Batman Begins' is a much superior Batman movie.

I think Bruce/Batman DONE WELL is the most interesting character in the mythos. IE his compassion and struggle in Begins and TAS.
