I know this is essentially the same as the other thread, but I'm hoping the mods will give me a little leeway. You can complain about OMD over in that one, and talk about the actual issue in this one.

I won't give too much in spoilers. For the most part, there aren't any, anyway. It's mostly a tie-up-loose-threads issue.

The issue features Spidey starting off a fight with one villain, Menace, running from that fight to take care of another one, Freak. And in one of the most inappropriate diposals of a villain ever, Spidey tricks Freak into thinking that there's a trunk full of drugs, and he ends up snorting the lime.

There's a nice scene with Jonah and a recording of Marla. I like how this subplot is just slowly playing out in the title.

I liked the issue for what it was, almost a filler, but it's becoming obvious that Gale is the weakest of the spider-writers. Really looking forward to Slott and Marcos Martin next week.

You obviously didn't read Gale's Daredevil arc. He can be a good writer if he's not stuck in such strict editorial boundries.

Which one was his?

I believe the one right before Bendis'. It deals with his secret identity being in jeopardy in a really interesting way. Although six issues in to Bendis' run Matt get's outted and this arc doesn't even get a mention. I don't believe this arc was collected though.

It defenitley sounds awesome. The day after tommorow sure will be great! :spidey::up:

I was collecting DD then but I don't remember it.

You can't be serious. God, that story was just awful.

His was the arc when some guy had his greenhouse busted up when Daredevil was fighting some thug, and the guy filed a lawsuit against DD.

Issues 20-21.

Now I remember (the greenhouse scene). I don't think it was awful, but it does confirm (to me) that Gale might not be too good at this (hey, he certainly kicks ass in other arenas!)

Gale sucks so badly. I hated this issue a little less than his "Freak" story, but really, they need to replace Gale. The Spidey team would do better to replace him.

I can live with him. I don't expect every single issue to be gold. That said, he is the weak link here.

Well, I just read the issue... middle of the road... nice to see the sub-plots moving along, and Kitson's art was really nice... Gale is the weakest link in this Spidey Writing Team, but it was on par with his "third" issue of the Freak story, which was the best of the three..

And in regards to this...

After he's loaded in the truck by the guys in biohazard suits, immediately the HAZMAT sign is pulled off the van to reveal an Oscorp logo. Seriously they do this within seconds of loading him up. There is absolutely no reason to do this in broad daylight unless you're showing comicbook readers who you are. STUPID.

You can tell that they are "unloading" him off the truck, so he has already been loaded up at the scene and driven to his destination, which of course turns out to be Oscorp Enterprises... the guys taking him off the truck even claim "We're taking this down to the freezer on sublevel 2"... which would make no sense if they were still at the junkyard... and to point an even more obvious matter of fact, they unload him with a roof above the truck, indicating that it was NOT at the junkyard, but rather a parking garage at Oscorp Enterprise.

The moral of this story is to read the books for yourself before taking the words of wisdom of someone who might be a tad biased in their reviews.

Cheers...

:yay:

Remind me again, what is HAZMAT? Or what does it stand for? I'm sure I heard it somewhere before.

Since there's a NYPD above it, I would assume it's the "New York Police Department Hazardous Material Unit".

Not read #556 onwards yet, need to get down the store for real.

I wouldn't call it the worst Spidey comic I've ever read... lord knows, there have been plenty of bad ones during the Mackie/Byrne era, and even a few lame ducks by JMS, but Gale certainly is the weakest writer of the new bunch... it read like an old hokey Spider-Man story (as far as the main storyline went)... I thought the sub-plots went along nicely.

If it's any consolation, we have Slott back for 3 more issues... yay...

:yay:

Worst. Issue. Ever.

Nah, almost-but-not-quite worst issue ever. The "Freak" arc has it beat. But only by a little.

I saw they're bringing back the "two Spider-Men" idea. That's original and brand new. :whatever: I mean, is this BRAND NEW Day or RECYCLING Day? Maybe Slott will make it good, but we'll see.

It's Earth Day!! :woot:

Yesterday, I picked pu tihs issue and I thought it was awesome. From the dialogue to the action sequences, it defenitley was very cool. I can't wait for ASM Issue #559. :spidey::up:

are you on "DRUGSSSSS!"?

Sorry, but I couldn't pass it up.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna pass on Gale's next two issues. Kitson's art was great stuff as always, and Freak being taken by Oscorp was an interesting twist, but Gale is even worse at dialog than Stan Lee (who can get away with the hokey, clunky dialog because, hey, he's Stan Lee). I thought Gale's work on Daredevil was atrocious, but it's even worse on ASM.

And for the fourth time now, Freak has proven to be completely pointless as any kind of character, villain or otherwise. The only thing that can redeem this guy is if Connors turns into the Lizard and tears him in half.
