…..Dan Slott, Marcos Martin and company (what, did you expect something else?)

Okay, although I am reluctant to do so, it looks like Miken either didn’t get early access to this week’s Amazing, or doesn’t want to stir up any interest in it. So I guess it falls to me. I apologize. I really don’t do reviews well, but I want to get the conversation started.
The iss starts out with an interview with the waitress who got slapped around on Entertainment News. Afterwards, while talking to her mom on the phone about how much her lawyer is telling her that they’re suing for, she’s attacked, and killed by Paper Doll (she doesn’t have that name, Spidey gives it to her later.) Sucks the dimension right out of her. It turns out PD has a bit of a crush on Bobby Carr.

It then cuts to the papparrazzi harassing Carr. He lashes out at one of them, Frankie Kollins, and who’s there to get the pic (supposedly hanging from a rope on the side of a building)…Peter Parker. Carr’s manager hustles him into the building and we find out that he (the manager) is feeding info to Dexter Bennet.

Meanwhile, we learn that Jonah has been cut off of caffeine in a twenty block radius by Marla, including the Coffee Bean. Nice little scene between JJJ and Harry. Pete arrives, and Harry is still not happy with him (dirty, filthy papparrazzo that he is)

Pete sells his photos, gets a basket of cheese from DB, and gets looked down upon some more from Robbie. He finds out about the murdered waitress, and realizes Kollins is probably next.

Eventually Paper Doll attacks while the Papparrazzi are parked outside an art showing that Carr is attending. Spidey and Paper Doll fight. I’m not going to describe it. I mean, it’s a fight. They hit one another. It ends because Spidey convinces Kollins to tell PD that he won’t sue Carr, thus ending her assault. Paper Doll then turns her attention to Carr’s manager.

The last scene is Golden. It ends with Carr going to meet his Mystery Girl. The conversation goes something like:

Carr: Wow! You look amazing. And yet you make it look so easy. How do you do that?.............

Mystery Girl: [BLACKOUT]It’s magic, Tiger[/BLACKOUT]

Some Nice Touches:

The reporter interviewing the waitress snarkily tells her to enjoy her 15 minutes of fame, and later Paper Doll camoflages herself in a Warhol Captain America.

Carr tells his goons not to forget the Memory Card this time, and one of them replies," You make one little mistake, and they never let it go." Way to go, Dan!

The title of the Carr Flick is One Last Kiss (a reference To Peter and MJ's last scene together?)

In the last scene, [BLACKOUT]MJ[/BLACKOUT] is reading a book: Faust.

"Faust"
, huh? Sounds pretty cool, actually. :o

I know you're all being vague, and there really was no mystery here, but let's try to keep things in spoilers and blackouts if you get any more specific.

As far as the [BLACKOUT]Faust [/BLACKOUT]reference, I wonder if it's just a wink and nod, or something more meaningful....

Hopefully the satanverse will begin to unravel soon...

I believe Faust...
Wrote a book (or is the character in a book) about dealing with the devil
apologies if you already knew that :)

Heh. Nice touch indeed.

I hope Peter deals with this Mephisto thing by ASM #600.

Oh, I forgot.
DB finally stopped getting Pete's name wrong, because he came up with a nickname for him.....Scoopy!
Now that is just demeaning enough to be just about right for the life of Peter Parker!

I did, I thought it sounds cool because mentioning Faust means that maybe there is a glimmer of retconning this mess.

[BLACKOUT]Or not.[/BLACKOUT]

Depending on the version you read, Faust was a learned man who wanted more and more knowledge (ei, the essence of life), this attracted the attention of the devil, who is represented by Mephistophiles. So he makes a deal with him, and the devil takes his soul. Everything was great until Faust meets a woman falls in love with her, and the devil destroyed her family, and left Faust in shame.
When Faust was on his death bed, the devil tried to claim his soul and the lord stops him, seeing some value in Fausts intentions.

Since I believe one more day heavily mirrors this story, we will get some closure on this story somewhere down the road.
Isn't there another story about Spider-man dying coming up in the near future?

I want to read the spoilers... I want to read the spoilers... I want to read the spoilers...

:csad: :csad: :csad:

I initially avoided coming into this thread because I feared reading "the return of..."

Even though it's been blatantly obvious who that person might be, I genuinely want to be surprised when I get my books later today.

:yay:

You know me, TMOB. I don't want to spoil people's fun. You can be assured if I start the thread, I won't drop any spoilers.

Well, I just read it... great stuff!!! :word: :word: :word:

Mysteries, suspense, a burning desire to "want" the next issue NOW!!!

It's all good.

:yay:

And this Martin guy is an AWESOME artist!!! :word:

Awesome storyteller, too. That seems to be making a comeback from the excesses of the 90s.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't catch the little jab in MJ's line until just now. "It's magic, let me explain it to ya." Nice one Slott. :funny:

SPOILERZ!!

First BND issue that didn't suck. Spider-Man wasn't a dumbass, the webshooters didn't jam up, the spider sense wasn't ignored, and the Jameson subplot seems like the best part of the book right now.

My only two gripes are Peter taking pictures while stuck to the wall. Although they figured a rope I'd think ahead and say "How long till people put two and two together?". Also Jameson referring to Osborn as a current friend I didn't like. What Osborn did to Jameson in the late 90s was much worse than what Dexter Bennett did. Although maybe Jameson's able to befriend his old rivals if he wins out in the fued.

I like the hinting with Bennett possibly being up to something more sinister than just trying to make a buck through sleazy means.

Oh and who caught the poster in the background of the lost Spider-Man tapes? I wonder if there's bootlegs of his unmasking floating around.

So after reading it in the store I thoroughly enjoyed the issue and bought it. For now this book has a stay of execution with me. And by the way I didn't make the spoiler thread this week due to no first looks copy being available last week.

I did notice the Spider-Man: Lost Tapes poster... and I love the jazzy Ditko homage to it from the splash page of part 2 of Amazing Fantasy #15.

:yay:

The entire issue was a Ditko homage. Especially the Harry.

Martin is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists. JQ needs to find him an assignment that he can stay on for a while.
