I have to say that this issue contains one of the funnier opening sequences that I've seen in a while. My review was going to encourage the people not buying to at least flip through it in the store.

But then, later in the issue, there is, hands down, the funniest interrogation scene ever. So that prompts me to try to encourage you to buy, rather than rent, it.

New cast member, Aunt May trying out some hip lingo, and Hammerhead not being lame. All in all, a really good issue.

(And normally, I hate Bachalo. But yet again, he seems to work here. There is a two page spread that is definately poster worthy)

You didn't happen to get your hands on the annual early did you clones?

Joe Kelly and Chris Bachalo on this issue? That gives me a reason to pick it up....

No, the annual isn't included :(

I'll have to wait until Wednesday, too.

this issue was an okay one. the art was confusing for me... Some pages were beautiful and others were blahhh. A lot of just blank white backgrounds that was kind of annoying

Bachalo's art has always been hard for me to take, but I enjoy what he's been doing on Spidey.

"Like I said... It's a BRAND NEW DAY, webs. Either you embrace it, or, well.... you don't."

Think thats directed towards everyone here and everywhere else.

Good issue.... pretty solid, imo.

:yay:

Didn't even bother reading it after reading the annual. That's how bad the annual was...someone wake me up when the retcon has been retconned until then Spider-Man is dead to me.

You know what...never mind...just never mind. I was going to give an elaborate post about how I think you're wrong, but it's just not worth my time.

The back & forth is not worth anybody's time...

Everything could become retconned... it's possible... anything is possible in comics (as we have seen at the end of 2007 where Spider-Man is concerned)... but I just don't see it happening... at least, not in the foreseeable future...

And it's not a question of who is right or wrong... if you don't like the direction of the book, then that is your opinion, and that doesn't make you "wrong", nor is it "wrong" for me to like the new direction.

At the end of the day, we all have the choice to buy and not buy the comics that we like/dislike... and while there have been a few periods in my life that I didn't enjoy reading Spider-Man books, I still chose to buy them. But for the most part, I am enjoying what I'm reading now, and I hope it sticks for a while...

And if a bad annual takes you away from reading the comics, I'm surprised that you read any comics in the 90's... the era where ALL annuals were considered pretty low compared to the main books.

Hopefully, you can bring yourself back to reading ASM, as the current HammerHead story looks pretty damn cool.

Cheers...

Mike

Part of me wonders if Norah Winters was introduced due because the less than enthusiastic response towards Lily and Carlie (not to mention that sense one of those two will probably be revealed as Menace and therefore out of play). The way Kelly writes her, she has far more personality in just a few panels than what we've seen thus far from the Gwen Stacy/Debra Whitman stand in (Carlie) and the African American Liz Allen (Lily). Granted, she is a bit too much of a Lois Lane type, the way she flirted and teased Peter.

Then again, there's always Greta, wretched kisses included.:oldrazz:

On a related note, you know Lily is bad news when Aunt May starts ripping into her about being a "gold digger" and "skunk" ("don't you mean skank?"):woot:

Also, this was probably the most vicious portrayal of Hammerhead I can remember, showing just how much of a physical threat he has become. The only thing is that, since his trademark gangster movie slang is absent, there's really nothing all that distinct about him from any other bruiser Spidey's faced, and in some ways reminded me a bit of Man Mountain Marko or Tombstone. It's fine to make Hammerhead a threat, but he still needs that gimmick of thinking he's Al Capone to make him stand out.

Aloha,
At this point in time, that's the best advice to give.
Spidey rules

Now this was a comic worth every penny!!! BUY! :wow:

Good issue. felt like a spidey comic....
the end made me look forward to the next one.

I like that this book had some progression, sadly when the creative team shifts again it won't last. :csad:

Just a question: I could be wrong but didnt Hammerhead already turn semi-robotic during the "Ben Reilly" era spiderman? I seem to remember an arc where Hammerhead almost died and came back lookin all different and robotic, but like i said i could be wrong.

That's how I feel too. I hate that Joe Kelly can't write a full year. I really loved this issue. I laughed so hard when Spidey got hold of the thug. Man! And the start was mindblowing. New Hammerhead is one bad mother.

Get Spider-man extra!

Well....guess i was right. Just goes to show you no idea's original.

Of course there are original ideas, but at the same time, you can use things that didn't work in the past; ie Hammerhead in the 90's, and make it better.

This "new" Hammerhead looks a lot better than he did back then.

:yay:

I wont argue with you there, he does look alot better, i'll give them the benefit of the doubt, its just that i knew i remembered Hammerhead becoming a cyborg before, but we'll see where they go with this. :yay:
