Frankly, I thought it was pretty good. The ending really surprised me though. I'm bad at writing reviews and my thoughts go from here to there and is very unorganized.

What I liked about this issue:
-Really feels like it's not part of the BND and instead you could kind of fit this into the old 616 series.
-The bad guy we haven't seen in such awhile.
-The art style doesn't look too cartoony.

I'm uncertain what I should put for the things I didn't like but I hope that people will come to find this particular issue very good.

Aloha,
Just read my copy. Always like Spidey dealing with the Mob and organized crime. Art was enjoyable-not great but not bad at all. Story kept my interest and I never thought we'd see
JJJ's father
.
Good part one.Looking forward to part 2.

I really liked it.

Love to see an old villain come back in the pages, plus seeing
JJJ's dad
in the end, was one hell of a surprise. And how couldn't u love Peter's excitment over the cookie fortune and lucky day stuff in the beginning, haha.

Can't wait for next issue to see how this resolves.

I haven't picked this book up yet... sounds like pretty exciting stuff... :word:  :word:

I thought it was just okay, myself. Really, it was your typical Spider-Man story that could have been told regardless of his marital status to MJ (although interestingly enough, [BLACKOUT]that model also happened to be a redhead. Hmmm....)[/BLACKOUT] Not to mention [BLACKOUT]we get--what is it now--the hundredth time in which Spidey is holding up a great weight on his shoulders to prevent a collapse?[/BLACKOUT] Also,
Jameson dad is still alive? Damn, that guy must be really long in the tooth. Except, according to J.J.J.'s own official bio, his father's name is David, not J. Jonah Jameson Sr. Another continuity error?

Oh, wow I just had a thought. What if Jameson's dad becomes Aunt May's new boyfriend? Peter and Jameson become potential step-brothers! AHHHH!

However, Waid's dialogue is good despite the average story, and he really captures a feel for the subtle differences between the way Peter Parker acts when out of costume and when he's Spider-Man. And there are some really excellent scenes done by Marcos Martin. Much better than the Pappazzi arc he did a few months back.

My sub is failing me once again. DT will be very happy. :(

Read my friends...sticking to what is nice to say only, like my mommmy taught me...

The art was good.

Pretty good issue. The writing was nice, I certainly didn't see the ending coming, and Martin's art was great as always.

Personally, I'd like to see more stories from Kelly and Waid than from the braintrust.

That's not true. There weren't any relationship bits in this issue, but if Pete were married, the story would ultimately demand MJ "panel-time" (or whatever the comic equivalent of screentime is), which would force out some things that were in this issue.

If you're referring to Peter's [BLACKOUT]interaction with the model[/BLACKOUT], maybe. But everything else could have easily have taken place if Peter and MJ were still together. In fact, I'd say that,

considering the model on the subway was also a redhead, it was another tease by the braintrust that, despite after how many months of Peter and MJ's break-up, he hasn't let go of MJ. After all, having another hot redhead who works as a model help him out and flat out say she's barely wearing anything is more than mere coincideance on Waid's part, I think. :cwink:

You know i rag on BND alot, but when it gets it right i give it credit. They got it real right this time, i loved this issue. It was just plain fun, and Martin's art is just too charming. Martin, Romita Jr, and Rivera need to be on this book permanently. I'm still not too gung-ho about peter parker's "younger" appearance and portrayal but whatever i'll just havta deal with it. I loved last week's punisher team-up and this week's was even better, i hope they continue making stories like this. They should replace guggenheim with Waid!

That's not really what I was talking about. What I meant was that, if MJ was still in the book as Peter's wife, then she would obviously need something to do in any given issue. So if you were going to put in MJ into the story in some capacity, you would need to take out or change something already in the issue, obviously.

Looking at this issue, for example, if Pete was still married, you would have to, say, change the beginning where Pete is hanging out by himself to him being with MJ or something like that.

I do agree that, out of all the "regulars," Waid really nailed the characterization of Peter Parker and without making him look like the immature amateur we've seen in earlier efforts either. And you tell from the dialogue the contrast between Peter's social awkwardness out of costume and his more cofindent demanor when he's Spider-Man. And Martin is definitely getting his inspiration from Steve Ditko in a lot of those panels. Plus that scene with Spider-Man under the umbrella was classic. So, yeah, there's some good flourishes here and there.

Not necessarily. MJ doesn't have to necessarily be in every single issue, which was part of the mistake Marvel made, not so much the marriage itself. After all, this issue could have easily worked during the period in which Peter and MJ were separated during JMS' run without changing a single thing.

That's not true at all. We just had an issue a few back that didn't even have spider-man or peter parker and that was probably the best BND issue to date. Just because someone's in a cast doesn't mean they have to be in every issue. You didn't see every single new BND supporting cast member in this issue right?

This issue truly was fantastic, IMO. The art was great, it was great to see
Shocker back,
and the ending was very surprising. :word::up:

Me an HtD kickin' it old school.....

I'm so embarrassed that I actually wrote that.....

Agreed. ASM has been excellent lately. :ikyn

I can't believe that I have yet to pick up this comic...

Just got it... just read it... very nice...

Read mine last night, and I have to say: We should start petitioning the president-elect, and fellow Spidey-fan, to get Congress to pass a law stipulating that Marcos Martin will be the artist on Amazing for the rest of his natural life. His layouts are wonderful, and the action definately flows from panel to panel. The simplicity of a Sal Buscema mixed with the quirkiness of Ditko. Nice mix.

I'm glad they're trying to rehabilitate the rogue's gallery. I really hope DS takes a crack at the Vulture. He seems to understand how ridiculous he is, so hopefully, he can turn that on its ear and give us something great.

The opening splash page was just beautiful.

A redhead who is a model and Peter has a chance to photograph with very little clothing
I think I heard this one before.
