Amazon working on their own game streaming service

People can get angry at Microsoft buying devs and publishers, but amongst the GAFAM, they are the competent ones on the gaming side of business.

Game streaming is lifeless. Till we have alien tech to lower latency to negative globally.

I will never understand why anyone buys into this streaming games crap.

I mean, *in theory* the idea of Netflix But Games has its valid appeal. Its just, that wasn't really the business model Stadia used, and the tech to do it simply doesn't exist and likely never will, outside of some limited regions.

Its a hard sell... and if there's going to be a NetfliX & Spotify for games, its probably the big game companies/publisher like Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo and whoever is running Steam - as they already have hundreds of games if not thousand, that they easily include in the service, plus a legion of loyal customers that they earned from the last 20 to 30 years. There's already Xcloud, PsNow, GeForce and whatever online subscription Nintendo has. If streaming games become in demand, people are likely going to subscribe to Xcloud and Psnow instead of Stadia/Luna.

Unless
Stadia and Luna could come up with eXclusives, big games that can be only played in their service maybe more people would pay attention. But Google already dissolved their gaming studios that were supposed to make games for Stadia. While Amazon is doing badly launching their own games. Crucible and they just lost that Lord of the Rings mmo.

Even if Amazon did develop exclusive games to sell the platform, that only works if the games are things people want to play. And if they are Stadia only, that means they are guaranteed to come with the performance and UI problems intrinsic to the Stadia platform. Sure, in theory you could develop your exclusive title so as to work around those limits, but that puts some fairly harsh limits on what genres your New Exclusive Killer App could possibly be. Amazon isn't exactly going to sell its risky new platform with a Civilization clone, for example.

Luna now available in Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada, and Prime members get even more…

Starting today, we’re excited to bring Amazon Luna to everyone in Germany, Canada, and the United Kingdom, making it easy to instantly start gaming on select devices that you already own, including Fire TV. Gamers in the U.S. have been enjoying Luna for the past year and we’re thrilled to expand the service, giving more customers the opportunity to play high-quality, immersive games without expensive gaming hardware or lengthy downloads.

90 CAD for the controller... Good thing PS/Xbox controllers are also supported.

If it’s free with Prime it will probably hang around a fair while. If not would be a completely different story.
