America no longer fattest country!

I think America was never the obesity capital to begin with. I have never seen any difference in people before or after it was stated there was all this obesity in the U. S.

Maybe you live in an unusually healthy and active area?

On another note, I find it odd that the stock images used to illustrate obesity are almost always of someone eating a burger or some chicken. Sure, those things will make you fat if eaten to excess, but all the evidence seems to indicate that a high-sugar diet is the quickest route to a lardy arse. The image should be of someone eating ice cream or drinking cola.
That is probably so. Eating excessively of anything will make you obese, even a vegetarian diet but sugar will definitely propel you to the top quicker.

Congrats America, but don't celebrate just yet. There is still a depressingly large gap between the USA and the next fully industrialized nation on that list.

I'm just disappointed that Canada isn't even on that list. We've had the KFC doubledown for almost 4 years now, does that mean nothing? :(

I have no idea how you guys aren't fat with all that poutine you eat :cwink:

I'm the reason. I started watching what I was eating and I probably pushed us under #1.

Heck yeah! I'm gonna celebrate with a large Big Mac Combo and two apple pies!

It's funny that a Big Mac has 550 calories, plenty of Starbuck's drinks have more than that. But you know which one is going to get singled out as "fattie food".

Unfortunately I'm in my own battle of the bulge and intent on winning so I'll be fighting America's efforts to retake obesity capital of the world. :(

That's it. I'm going to blast some Rick Derringer and pound back some Big Mac's.

WE'LL SHOW YOU, MEXICO!!!!!!

I've lived in the South for my entire life and I've been up and down the East Coast. I've been to at least 30 different gyms, either as a member or or while I'm on vacation. I've never seen one that wasn't bursting at the seams with people. And while seeing a severely overweight person is hardly unusual, I have yet to see these roaming hordes of people where everyone looks like Snorlax.

While that may seem like nothing more than anecdotal evidence, I don't think the reality matches the sensationalized stories we read. The obesity "epidemic" seems to be something easy for the media to fall back on since anything health related catches the attention of a great percentage of readers.

But it reflects statistics. These things don't go to press because a journalist has seen a few fat people. If your opinion is that Americans tend to be lean and trim, then either you are meeting only exceptions to the rule, or your perceptions are in some way skewed.
